There was a famine in Africa and this was the American contribution - collecting money to help. Later - the summer 1985 "Live Aid" was arranged in London and Philadelphia (US) - in stadiums with artists who performed 20 minutes each - and then the other venue had artists/groups doing the same while the stage was prepared for the next performance - - the performance from the venue without artist(s) was shown at the other on big screens and on television world wide via satellites. An estimate of 1.9 billion viewers world wide - - me included from Denmark. The best performance of all - - was "Queen" from London. It can be seen here on KZbin - also with reactors if you wish - . You will probably know some of the music - - . "Queen" is still considered one of the best groups world wide - of all times - with The Beatles as no. 1. If you are not familiar with "Queen" - they are still touring - they started in 1970 - now with Adam Lambert in front - the original singer was Freddie Mercury who died in 1991 from AIDS you can find more on KZbin . Thank you for your reaction.

You know the rock/metal industry did the exact same thing and made a far better song for charity. It was called Hear’n Aid - We’re Stars. It’s on KZbin in full and you should be able to react to it. They got in some of the best vocalists, guitarists etc. from most of the major bands at the time in the 80’s and it was cool to see them all collaborating. They even roped in the lead singer from Spinal Tap LOL!

I am sorry to say you didn't pass the test. Your next assignment is to read the names on the comments and react to each one one by one. I also suggest you watch Band Aid and Hear N Aid. Two different group of artists getting together for charity during the eighties.

I cry every time I see this. For 10 lousy minutes in 1985 when this was broadcast all over the world simultaneously we had relative peace. And she doesn't know 75% of these artists and needs to look them up, read in detail to understand the weight of their being there to help save starving refugees in Africa. It was odd she knew Quincy Jones and not Paul Simon for example.

David Foster formed a supergroup in Canada 🇨🇦 named Northern Lights. Bruce Allen handled the business side. Bryan Adams, Jim Vallance, Paul Hyde, Corey Hart, Geddy Lee of Rush, the late Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, Mike Reno of Loverboy and Neil Young are some of the singers. Suggested video 📹: Northern Lights perform Tears Are Not Enough. Link. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmaccoCajtaXiMU.

Unfortunately, the older this history making song gets , the least known these artists gets with younger generations, I hope we can keep this song alive and relevant…

In fairness you must now react to Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas , as it was the song from the UK that came out before this song which was the original song to help the starving people around the world.

I think it was bigger worldwide too, and redone every decade. But generally Americans ignore it.
