I just love that glassy top end. That's my favorite quality in a good bass tone.

Love the tone! G&L areso underated. Way better than MM basses IMHO.

They moved on to a more universal type of active preamp style. I love my L2000, but I wish it had a blend knob for the pickups instead of a three way switch. I'm still keeping it though. Every position wether active or passive sounds very musically satisfying.

That neck pickup has some serious midrange going on!

IvanBassist Yeah right!! Kind of a more mid-range P pickup.

Thanks Steve, this looks like an outstanding bass, especially considering the cost.

What i like of this bass is that has the jazz bass style Sound in between. The l2000 is a little bit more aggresive but, also has that peculiar g&l Sound. Both are great guitars

I've been a G&L owner since the mid-90s, when I bought a custom made L-2000. I got my M-2000 about three months ago (again, a custom build, since I'm a lefty), and I am still over the moon about it. It plays incredibly well, and I'm in love with the tone. I don't know if I can make a straight comparison between the M and the L, as there's such an age difference- for example, the L-2000's neck is only bolted on with 3 screws (!), whereas the M-2000 has 6. I would advise trying both models, as it may just be a difference in tone at this point. But you won't go wrong with either choice. :)

Nice informative stuff. Had no clue CLF was Clarence Leo Fender. And the George Fullerton and Leo Fender guitars . Thanks for that. Well video is bomb on basses as well.

I try to like the tone on this bass but to me it Just sounds really soft or on the weak side, Beautiful bass but I prefer the L2000’s tone more. Nice review

I have M2500. It’s really versatile and I can play anything with it. It actually looks like this bass in the video, but with 5 strings.

Steve, I think that lack of break up your hearing may have more to do with the insane headroom the 18V preamp provides than the type of pickup. I think we tend to associate that breakup with single coils because they are seldom used with active preamps. Paul Gagon is a true genius with that preamp. :-)

I'm curious, which is your favorite G&L bass model? Mine has always been the L2000/25000, but these M series basses sound really sweet!

Rob, how does this compare with an L2000? There's an M and an L on sale locally. L looks chunkier but worried M is too tame!!!

What does it sound like as a rock bass keeping it thick with a drummer, as you only a demoed solos and slap with out backing, humbuckers do Excell when recording maybe you could name a comparison as I am new to GL brand models
@LaFritePerreGoat5 жыл бұрын
Why would you choose this one over an L2000 and it passive mode?
@Thebasshang5 жыл бұрын
Mrfrenchfriesmonster I definitely prefer pickup panning/blend over a three way pickup selector, that way I can blend between the two pickups. I also order a three band eq with cut and boost. That’s all personal preference because the L2000 is a killer bass too, the M2000 just fits my personal needs more.

I hear quite a bit of string-against-fret rattle - especially down low. Some players don't notice it; if it's their habit to dig in and play hard, I guess it's all part of the sound. And maybe it'd blend into a mix. But soloed like this, it kind of distracts me. :^/
@DavidJones-hd7jj4 жыл бұрын
I agree.Its noticeable and annoying.I think most of them do it.Maybe it’s coming from the bridge.
@mv97872 жыл бұрын
Low action makes that sound and it’s a matter of preferences. I like low action. It gives more headroom for sound and plays much faster
@pbasswil2 жыл бұрын
@@mv9787 In a mix - especially in assertive or rockin' styles - low action rattle is fine, and may add to the overall soundscape. But outside of that context, and when playing solo at home, it drives me _bananas._ :^/

Why do most G&L’s sound so clanky/buzzy?
@Surfer86524 жыл бұрын
Most of them have jumbo frets cut in a way that they get a bit of fret buzz when played hard (like most basses do), but their super powerful MFD pickups amplify a lot of those higher frequencies.
@mv97872 жыл бұрын
They are adjusted on a low action. You can easily adjust strings higher to get rid of it, or play with soft touch.
