It's weird how many people don't even know about G&L in general. Especially in the bass world.
@eckie46792 жыл бұрын
The only thing I would say is that it’s hard to tame that aggressive growl. If you want a deep, smooth sound without too much mid bark then you have to work at it. Also, there isn’t the facility to go single coil (unless you’re into modding) so in comparison to the MusicMan HH, it’s not so versatile. That said, I’m loving my L2000 Tribute
@fearnoevil652 жыл бұрын
@@eckie4679 There's certainly lots of mids, however, I got an option order USA L-2000 with the SCM, single coil mode, so it has a 3 way toggle, single coil mode/parallel/series. It can run the single coils near the neck and bridge for more tones yet.

One of the most under appreciated bases ever. It really is the culmination of Leo's philosophy on the electric bass.
@Surfer86524 жыл бұрын
I love the L2000 so much. It has the warm vintage sound of the old Fenders while also offering the power and tonal versatility of more modern bass designs. The MFD pickups make it one of the most punchy and dynamic passive basses ever made. The rugged construction, hardware, and high quality tone woods give each note a lot of integrity and make the bass a joy to hold and play. Idk if it sounds too raw for modern players, is too complex for vintage players, or if it's just not very well known, but for some reason it doesn't get the attention it deserves. Oh well, the used market prices are cheap for US or Tribute L2000's which is great for those of us who want to buy one.
@Surfer86524 жыл бұрын
@B MMH05 Congrats on the new bass! I say the L2000 is raw sounding in that its MFD pickups sound ultra growly and aggressive in their natural state. It's a very bright high gain sound. I think it sounds great for rock music, and I use mine for a lot of other things like solo arrangements, blues, funk, etc. It can also be shaped and restrained with the treble and bass cut knobs and responds well to more mellow strings. But it doesn't have a highly refined out of the box sound the way that say a Fodera or a Ken Smith or a Lakland does. It reminds me more of a Stingray in that it's a versatile bass but sounds a bit harsh with stock settings.

My G&L JB 2 Tribute (made in Indonesia) has no fret buzz at all. It’s perfect. My Squire bass has fret buzz on one fret but it cannot be heard on the amp. I like it because it’s an indicator of where the neck relief is. If the buzz goes away that would mean my neck relief is a little too high for my taste so that one fret minor buzz works out

@iunnox6665 жыл бұрын
It's not too complicated really. Pickup switch, tone and volume knobs are familiar to everybody, the only thing out of the ordinary is the series/parallel and preamp switches. One of my basses has 2 volumes, a coil switch, and a switch for bass cut capacitors on the bridge pickup. Complex, but great for the studio as you say. It gives me more tonal flexibility than a preamp, and can get pretty close to a Ric, Stingray, P and Jazz while having some of it's own killer tones as well.
