2/2 as for themed EDC ideas how about these: 1. American made budget EDC with non knife cutting instrument. American made alternatives to a pocket knife (American made scissors, box cutters, craft knife, etc.) 2. DIY/ 3d printed EDC. EDC items that can be made at home or with 3d printing (tyvek wallets, electric lighters, 3d printed box cutters, notebook covers, pen bodies, tweezers, Altoids tin organizers/kits) (This last one is not an EDC theme, but a new category of EDC tool) 3. EDC measuring/layout tools. Tools that help measure and accurately do layout/drawing work and fit in a pocket or pocket organizer (keychain measuring tapes, pocket rulers, small calipers, pocket compasses, protractors, squares, etc) you could make up a gauntlet for testing and comparing the various tools ex. Drawing a straight line, finding the center of a circle, accurately measuring lengths and angles.

For American made products and a $100 total budget in today’s economy, you did extremely well, but I agree that the Buck 112 would have definitely been the better option. Great job over-all!

I always find interest in the "EDC setup for x amount of dollars" videos. It's just neat to see what people come up with, because everyone's needs are different, so you end up with a lot of variation. It's just something that always intrigues me. I think you did an excellent job showcasing that you can get a good USA-made carry and not have it break the bank. I will admit, I was curious about that Buck for the longest time and then my interest just kind of dropped off. I'm glad to find someone that picked it up to see how it is so I can make an even more informed decision. Also, for how long I've had my Maglite, I've never thought to use the cap as a stand for the candle setup. I love out-of-the-box thinking like that, as much as people look down on Maglite sometimes. Awesome video, lots of insight!

Highly informative as usual! Nice that you didn't go for the obvious gear. When seeing mostly the same gear on forums I think that the EDC community basically buys what everyone else buys. I live in the Netherlands but I have an almost all USA EDC (except some Olight products) I prefer USA made EDC gear because of the excellent quality and warranty terms. Can you find out if there is a write in the rain insert for the Olight pen PRO ? Keep up the good work!!! You are the fresh breeze the EDC community needs!!!

I've been curious about that Buck after seeing it at a local hardware store, but I have considered getting the 112 slim and probably will. It's good to know that the space pen is cheaper from write in the rain. I love that the buck was able to be added for the last $2. The zippo is cooler and longer lasting. I wouldn't use the bar. Best bit of info from this was the 411 on the Maglight! I do think this was a great idea and that you did a good job, even with your dissatisfaction with the knife.

😁👍 The Maglite was a great choice as well as the Bic. I use the Pokka pens so I can confirm they work well. I prefer the Maratac key pouch as a wallet option. The blade is a difficult one, maybe would have to be a small compact Leatherman model. The notebook/ notepad is nice but I just buy the regular 50¢ notepads. Just for fun I'll share what I currently carry: Maratac AAA light (aluminum body) but sometimes I carry the copper, both are great 👍 Standard size Clipper lighter Pokka pen Standard 3x5" notepad Spyderco Delica 4 FFG in Gray Maratac key pouch as a compact wallet Dollar store $1 handkerchief Cell phone Keys (on my key ring I keep a Maratac tweezers, Lumintop AAA light, a Maratac carbon fiber key clip, Maratac glow fob, mini ferro rod, Resqme window punch and a mini homemade key fob made up of high tensile strength micro cord for emergency cordage) Would love to see you make a mini EDC survival kit. You were able to get some interesting options to meet the criteria and budget. Agree there may have been other options for the knife but it's a buck so i'm sure it will be solid. The maglite really surprised me. I bought a maglite solitaire once, but it wasn't LED it had an orange color beam. Turned me off the brand but this seems really good. I have the rite in the rain pen and is really nice, but have never used a pokka pen. Some interesting items and alternatives for this edc I love it!

Hey Dom - You are asking for ideas on a project. Here is one that I have been thinking about. EDC Tape. Yes, a way to carry and keep clean a versatile tape The tape needs to be non-conductive in case you need to fix a broke extension cord and it also needs to form a moisture-proof seal. It will need to be carried in some manner to keep the tape clean and can fit comfortably in a pocket. Maybe this is a little weird, but I have been in situations where it would have come in handy.

I’ve recently figured out the importance of candela over raw lumen count.. especially since getting an LEP. The one I have is “only” 500 lumens, sounds like nothing compared to my multi thousand lumen hotrods, but at ~3/4million candela, it’ll outthrow anything else on my shelf.. by whole lot! My fw3 might be able to light things up from a few hundred feet away, but it’s gonna get rippin hot and destroy my night vision by lighting up everything between me and my target.. wasted light and wasted power imo. The LEP will easily show me whatever I wanted to see at that distance without blasting everything else.. it’s like a shotgun vs a precision rifle. The shotgun might be more powerful, but it’s an awful tool for some jobs.. inversely, sometimes you do want that wall of light. Tying to see where you’re stepping with the Lep is ridiculous.. might as well be using a laser pointer at that point.. ok done rambling lol

Did a great job with the brief - the only thing missing was one case/bag to carry them all in. Not a chance you can achieve the same in Australia, even with the exchange rate. We just don't have the market size for the low prices, nor the locally made items of that breadth of choices.

If there are not US made products available i will but foreign made, but my preference will always be US made supporting US workers. 2. I think your selection was well-rounded. The only suggestion i would have might be to offer a smaller knife as an alternative to the Buck knife. I live and work in an urban environment where larger knives are not always welcomed as an EDC. 3. I was impressed with of your selection of the Rite-in-rain Fischer pen. The Maglite was biggest surprise. I never really even consider Maglites despite the company being “OG” in the tactical/EDC flashlight space. This video was honestly god sent. Even if I don't win the giveaway, I'm totally checking out those Pokka rite in the rain pens whenever gass prices settle down. That pen looked cool as hell. We recently made the decision at home to start buying American made products over their foreign counter parts as much as possible even if there is a price difference. Apart from this, I also lost a lot of my edc items in the move to our new home. Of those lost items, the ones that hurt to lose the most were my leatherman wave and believe it or not, my buck bantum. I had that knife for over 10 years and it honestly never failed me. I partly agree with your criticism of the buck. Yeah, it does have a bit of flex, but the edges wear in over time just fine. Yeah its not something special but it was for sure unexpectedly tough. Its cheap but handsome and trust me, it grows on you. Sometimes you don't need a 300 dollar benchmade or spiderco. Simple can be just as charming and enjoyable. I put that thing through its paces and it was just fine. I honestly only remember sharpening it once and that was because I had strapped it to a large piece of wood and used it as a makeshift axe to cut up a bunch of wood. Don't sleep on that knife, it gets the job done.

@@maxlvledc The are popular and I hear they're great knives. To me the slim knives are completely different animals and in no way a 110 or 112 though, not to take anything away from their worth as knives but they should have been given different model numbers. If the Buck Slim select is somehow a 112 then the Vic classic is a 58mm Spartan, and the Leatherman squirt is a mini PST, the Gerber MP400 is a Pixie MP.

You`re right about the Buck 112 - it would have been a better choice. The wallet chosen is the only one that comes with RFID as standard. I really like the fireman but you have to buy an extra aluminium card for RFID protection. You claim it takes very few cards as it is...

It is good to see "Made in USA" products. I am new to EDC but have been watching your videos and always appreciate the effort you put in giving your subscribers, as much detail as possible. Keep up the good work!! First product purchased was a Spyderco knife followed by a fisher space.

A good collection but I would skip the mediocre knife and pry bar and replace those two items with a simple multi tool, which would probably be around the same cost. The flashlight was a nice surprise.

Great job for the budget! If it was me though personally I'm more of a Multi-Tool guy over a knife...So I would have got less edc items and replaced the knife with the Leatherman Bolster (Costco Exclusive costing about $40). Enjoyed seeing the Maglite! Very old school & reminded me of when my dad carried one for work when I was a kid!

Great video. 2 suggestions: I own the solitaire and use it as a backup light in my fishing kit. You said it was very dim but I disagree it has a solid 45 lumens. Although not as much power as your choice it is still more than a phone and I think the compact size is beneficial. My only other suggestion would be to check out Arc company for the wallet situation

Thank you! Great video and I appreciate the insights. Especially the flashlight. Your video made me decide to carry a lighter everyday. Also, now I want the pen and the notebook. If you see this: I *don't debate at all the usefulness of a knife but I was thinking, since I have the Leatherman Charge TTI, given that the blade is so good, I don't feel compelled to acquire an EOD knife, as the blade of the Leatherman satisfy my requirements...any thoughts you might want to share with me?

1/2 Good lineup, the knife really seems to be the hardest because there's so few US made knives that hit this price point and aren't either A: bad design B: badly put together C: cheap materials that affect use/durability. I've got a cold steel prolite that, on paper, is nearly identical to the buck 112 but it seems more substantially built to me. I'm not sure if that's the triad lock talking or just an overall beefier design?

Good video! I think my tastes skew on the more compact size. I'd choose the Solitaire (and currently do, that's my EDC light), but I have tried the one in the video. The clip off the two battery AAA fits onto the Solitaire. I have it mounted backwards to use it to clip onto my cap brim. In terms of knife, I'd have chosen one of the small synthetic handle Case knives, there are a variety of sizes and are cheaper than the Gerber LST family. In terms of pens, the Sharpie ultra fine tip permenant markers are quite good. The wallet I have is a Recycled Firefighter i have been carrying for 7 plus years, and would choose it again.

You can order a two-way pocket clip for the Streamlight Stylus Pro that fits the solitaire. I did that and found that it works better than the Maglite clip.
