LOL the state song sounds like a deep south song but keep in mind Missouri split during the civil war and the northern part of this state fought for the north. And the southern part of the state lost this is where the capital is LOL

The Northern part of the state along the Missouri River was called Little Dixie and more pro-confederate than any other part of the state. St. Louis was the most pro-union, especially the Germanic population. The Ozark portion of the state was known for shooting at soldiers on both sides.

Sentimental as it may seem, know that these are "not" the original Missouri Waltz lyrics but just a whitewashed version. No mention of Mammy, pickaninnies or darkies as it was originally written in the song. It was actually meant to be performed or sung as a nostalgic point of view from a slave. Afterall, Missouri was a split state during the Civil War.
