Here is a very nice all original 1964 Chrysler 300K. It was owned by Murray’s Mom in 1974 and she kept it until 1982. Murray found out where it was an bought it back. Please give the story a Like 👍 and be sure to Subscribe so you don’t miss an episode!

I've always liked these Mark, when dad sold the family business and commenced his long tenure with the US State dept here in Australia, one of his fellow Americans working in the US Govt' Underwood house in 37 Pitt St Sydney also had a beautiful deep blue 2 door one just like this with a lovely pale blue interior and it had that wicked idle downstairs in the carpark , best of all was the great metal dash in it, the metal console and that fantastic very "blokey" chunky ball topped T shifter for the automatic. The underground carpark was a living breathing museum of wonderful American cars belonging to all the staff in all the different sections, USIS the information service and their library (on 2 floors of the building) the Consulate, the State dept offices, the Armed forces office, the US Trade Centre, and US dept Commerce.

These were expensive cars when new and quite fast. Chrysler was right up there as a car to have when you were successful.

Exner left over. The 1963 full size Chryslers (round tail lights and zero fin -- not even the small one as in 64), was taken from a 1960 drawing proposal for the Imperial. But with Exner getting cut and Engel busy re-making the imperial (the 1964 "Lincoln" imperial), the Chrysler brass just pulled this old Exner drawing up for a quick make-over as a stop gap in time for the 1963 models. 64 was a mIld upgrade that gave it a bit more formality with the re-addition of the tiny fins. So the 1st Elwood Engel Chryslers are 1965. These had the big slab sides, and they lost the big wrap around windshield. So that makeshould 63 and 64 truly "lost generation" cars. Exner was out, and Engel was busy. So, technically, there is nothing from Engels in 1963 or 64. They are post Exner, but they have all his touches.

Thanks for that summary. Having worked closely with the design depts of GM and Ford, I would still say Engel would have had some say so on these, although acknowledge what you say re Exner left overs. Exner certainly got a bad wrap given his wonderful earlier work although he did seem to lose his way somewhat in the early 60’s models after his peak of 57-60 in my view. Having to downsize the “large” cars did not help either as some of his proposed designs looked quite good although not a patch on the earlier work. Engel had some very good designs and was more suitable to the market’s changing tastes.

The 300K was available with a four speed , but only about eighty four were built with them.
