Gabby wasn't officially in the 2012 American cup but she was beating Jordyn. Even Liukin made a point about Nastia in 2005 when she was at nationals, she's had too much winning and there's going to come a time when you won't win, and every little tenth counts. @Charlie-sc4kl4 жыл бұрын
Frankie K Hey, Frankie! It’s my understanding that they’re required to emphasize the “art” and “elegance” as this is, quite literally, *artistic gymnastics.* The women are required to showcase their grace and elegance through dance, along with strength and agility. However, the men are not. They’re scored solely on their strength and skill. Hope this helps to sort out any confusion, doesn’t come across as hateful and that this finds you well!
@frankiek22694 жыл бұрын
Charlie Brown McElroy Oh. I completely understood. You just missed my disagreement with it. It’s a total contradiction. Where is the “grace” and “elegance” represented on the vault? Never seen any on that apparatus, ever. That is solely ability. Edit: I have never seen a highlight of someone’s beautiful pirouette during floor repeated over and over.
@Charlie-sc4kl4 жыл бұрын
Frankie K Oh, absolutely! It’s frustrating. In my mind the grace comes into play while the gymnast is in the air. Although, it is primarily strength and agility in vault and tumble they are also scored on their form and long lines. Here lately though it seems we have a bunch of power houses who CAN hold the same form/lines in the air, it just doesn’t look as graceful. I don’t know, I feel like I’m not making a lick of sense, and I’m just rambling for the sake of conversation. Regardless, I do agree with you and also thank you for the polite response and I hope I didn’t upset or offend you in any way.

Jordan was struggling in her last three competitions, Bars and Beam were not her strong points, Beam wasn't Gabby's strong point, but did qualify for AA, Bars and Beam, and if she hadn't of bounce out of bounds possibly floor, Aly AA, Beam and Floor, Jordan Floor, McKayla Vault, Gabby stepped up her game and came through when it counted, If she hadn't, Russia would have been leading going into floor and could have changed everything They would have been the ones doing the safe solid routines and the US would have been doing the catching up. Gabby earned her AA, as did Aly, As we now know, There is no doubt in my mind that Nasser played a major roll in all the girls mental status when they needed to focus the most. Both leading up to the Olympics and during the Olympics. Which would explain Jordan's many small mental mistakes, Aly's errors on Beam, and gabby;s performance during individual Bars and Beam, neither look the same while performing.

For everyone down here and says that Jordyn should've been in Aly spot is wrong because Aly was the 2nd top qualifier behind Komova. Saying she doesn't deserve her spot when she out scored Jordyn AND Gabby is just complete bias over the fact that Jordyn was world champion the previous year meaning she should get an automatic spot. I truly believe Jordyn should've been in that final but because I think the 2 per country rule is not smart, not because I think she deserves it more than Aly or Gabby
@vanessae12708 жыл бұрын
Thank you I totally agree with you. I especially hated when people said Aly should give up her spot. Plus my friends and I totally called this happening at the Olympics either she wouldn't make the AA or someone else would get gold. Jordyn was solid but she never had one event where she really shined whereas Aly her weakest event was bars but she could bring in high scores on beam and floor. Not to mention Jordyn didn't even upgrade her routines for the olympics while everyone else did. Jordyn was the equivalent to Shawn/Nastia scenario in 2008 Shawn was solid on all 4 events but Nastia had 2 events where she would get over 16 plus her execution and start value were higher. Just because Jordyn is the World Champion she shouldn't have expected to get an easy ride into the olympic AA especially with the talent USA currently has. People were complain about the 2 per country rule when it has been in effect since 2001 after Sydney when Romania took all the medals in the Womens AA. People then complain about it just because the world champion didn't get a chance to defend her title.

Over which girl should Ebee have made the team? Jordyn wieber was the reigning world AA champion and was battling top 2 US with Gabby all year. Aly Raisman was a huge floor specialist with an Amanar and a great BB set, and was the rock and the best team player. Douglas was the rising star with big difficulty and wow factor on every event. Kyla Ross was needed on UB because that was the biggest weakness of this team. McKayla Maroney was the reigning world vault champion and was a guaranteed medal, and her floor was world class as well. Ebee had a fantastic trials, but she wasn't needed on that team. They didn’t need a 4th best AAer, or a 4th Amanar. Any other team would have love to get her.

Looking back on this from 2 years ago I think that what ppl meant by saying that Aly bumped Jordyn out was because many ppl assumed that it would be Gabby and Jordyn going into the AA for USA due to the fact that Aly's bar scores are significantly lower and her vault lacks form as well but against all odds she fought and made it in :)

To this day I don't like when people say Aly should have given up her spot to Jordyn, Aly wanted to be in the AA too, and Aly won her spot fair and square. In sports this big your teammates are also your competition. You are all competing against each other for spots on the team and medals. Even if Jordyn was in the AA she wouldn't have won gold. Komova had higher score on bars and upgraded her beam dismount which gave her the advantage over Jordyn. Jordyn was overhyped by NBC in the US as the next big thing but her coaches set her up for failure by taking her wins for granted. If people looked at the scores her wins were small margins and in the USA she was over scored, and she never made her connections on beam which caused her to get hammered in international competitions. Komova, Aly and Gabby all upgraded their routines for the Olympics. So two examples for past AA winners. In 2004 Carly was descent on vault but shined on beam and floor with 9.7's back when the code was out of 10 which got her the lead over Khorkina. In Beijing 2008, Nastia was weak on vault she made up for it with her execution on all events and scored in the mid 16's on two events. Jordyn didn't have one event were she really got really high scores that she shined on and she wasn't in a position like Simone where small mistakes wouldn't cost her the medals. Jordyn was more like Memmel where the team could rely on her on any event. So at 2011 World's Jordyn scores were 15.716 13.600 15.266 14.800. Komova 14.933 15.400 14.683 14.333. Total in AA Jordyn was 59.382 Komova 59.349, so you can see the small margin. In the Olympic qualifications Jordyn got 60.032, Komova 60.632, Gabby 60.265, Aly 60.391 so while you can see in the Olympic AA it wasn't a huge differences Jordyn wouldn't have won the AA. Komova was in the lead after day 1 but messed up in the final but she had a bit of an advantage over Jordyn.If Komova had hit in the AA she would have won gold. I think Jordyn's coaches just overestimated that she would be edged out by teammates. Now with Simone, the only way someone could edge her out is if on vault they did a yuchenko triple and the prudonova vault along with a high even bars in vein of Nastia's 2008 bar routine.

I think Jordyn Wieber was overwhelmed and cried because this was her first Olympics and her team just slayed everyone else and won. So I think she distanced herself to get her emotions together because her body was reacting. When you train and train and train and then you go to the Olympics and work hard and then your team wins and gets to go to the final, your body is just like "Did I just do that? Did we just slay everyone and win the first round? Oh my god!" It's something she's never experienced before and she needs a couple of minutes to take it all in an process it so she doesn't freak out. That's what I think was happening, I don't think she was just standing there alone, I think she did it because she was overwhelmed that she just did what she did.

She was sad because she was disappointed. She was the world AA Champion and she didn't have a great day, and made a bunch of uncharacteristic mistakes. EVERYONE was talking about her winning AA, and she didn't even qualify for it. And she even released a statement addressing it "It is a bit of a disappointment. It has always been a dream of mine to compete in the all-around final of the Olympics." And a bunch of other coaches talked about it.

That's the rule and Jordyn got the third highest score in 2012. Thing is that the head of any nation's gymnastics picks which three people get to compete to qualify for the All-Around and in 2016, Marta Karolyi chose Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and Gabby Douglas, even though Laurie Hernandez had done better at the Olympic Trials. I agree with you that people were so much more upset that Jordyn didn't make the all-around than they would have been if Gabby were the odd one out, because Jo was the defending world champions and Gabby hadn't been expected to do so well.
