I love Aly Raismen so much !!! She’s an incredible gymnast and she had to hold back being too excited about qualifying for AA bc she is respectful and didn’t want to rub it in Jordan’s face . She earned it very fairly even so . I’m so glad she came back again in 2016 and medaled in the Olympics . She has such a beautiful spirit, I love watching her compete .

I like how the commentators and camera people didn't focus on Aly at all, they didn't show her bars or beam. They clearly didn't expect her to make the all around final. They were also commenting on how Jordyn would have to "fight" in the all around final... it's like it didn't even occur to them that she might not make the final.

@@lanniw3877 You're right: she underestimated Aly in particular. The fact is that she had a chance when Gabby opened the door by making a huge mistake on her floor routine. It really is the fault of Wieber's coaches that she didn't qualify. If they would have been paying attention to the results of previous competitions, they would have realized that they needed to make some changes. Also, I think Jordyn was thinking she was a lock because of her USA and world titles. She and her coaches underestimated her teammates.

She won and a lot but people were hyping her up as this super dominant gymnast but were kind of ignoring the fact that she was JUST winning by a hair. A good example is her beam routine. Her SV was high but she rarely made her connections and this was nothing new. She in general was loosing small points here and there on all the apparatuses. Jordyn wasn't in a Simone position, where tiny mistakes wont make a huge difference. She was in a position where she couldn't afford mistakes, and even with a hit 4/4, she still was never a lock for the 2 AA spots.

@@neversaygoodluck It is true. Komova, Gabby and Aly upped their routines for the Olympics. Geddart took for granted she would win the Olympic AA. Jordyn was also overhyped. I still don't really count her 2009 American Cup win cause she was 14 and from what I know you have to be 16. Her wins were by a few tenths. Gabby wasn't officially in the 2012 American cup but she was beating Jordyn. Even Liukin made a point about Nastia in 2005 when she was at nationals, she's had too much winning and there's going to come a time when you won't win, and every little tenth counts. That's what happened. Bela blamed the line up but if Jordyn did go last she wouldn't have gotten the all around. Yeah you're friends with your teammates but they are also your competition.

@Charlie-sc4kl
@Charlie-sc4kl 4 жыл бұрын
Frankie K Hey, Frankie! It’s my understanding that they’re required to emphasize the “art” and “elegance” as this is, quite literally, *artistic gymnastics.* The women are required to showcase their grace and elegance through dance, along with strength and agility. However, the men are not. They’re scored solely on their strength and skill. Hope this helps to sort out any confusion, doesn’t come across as hateful and that this finds you well!
@frankiek2269
@frankiek2269 4 жыл бұрын
Charlie Brown McElroy Oh. I completely understood. You just missed my disagreement with it. It’s a total contradiction. Where is the “grace” and “elegance” represented on the vault? Never seen any on that apparatus, ever. That is solely ability. Edit: I have never seen a highlight of someone’s beautiful pirouette during floor repeated over and over.
@Charlie-sc4kl
@Charlie-sc4kl 4 жыл бұрын
Frankie K Oh, absolutely! It’s frustrating. In my mind the grace comes into play while the gymnast is in the air. Although, it is primarily strength and agility in vault and tumble they are also scored on their form and long lines. Here lately though it seems we have a bunch of power houses who CAN hold the same form/lines in the air, it just doesn’t look as graceful. I don’t know, I feel like I’m not making a lick of sense, and I’m just rambling for the sake of conversation. Regardless, I do agree with you and also thank you for the polite response and I hope I didn’t upset or offend you in any way.

I think they should adapt the rule so that it does not apply to the top ten finishers. It's the Olympics. I want to see the best gymnasts compete in the all-around. @@sydneyo5500 they were one of the countries that supported it because Romania swept, it didnt matter where Americans finished as they were all screwed that year with the bad set up for vault as Elise fell who was their main hope in the all around. Maybe you need to learn your facts before you comment and learn the history of the sport. America was one of bigger supporters of 2 per a country to avoid the sweeps of one country and give better chance on the individual apparatus especially back when they were not top dog, now that they are the dominant country they do not like the rule . You show where the gymnastics finished that year but neglected to point out how fucked up the competition was when the vault was set to low and actually took out the main competitors which included 1 American.

@@running_girl5512 I am fully aware of what happened with the vault in 2000. I'm happy to learn more about the sport if you have evidence that the US was "pissed off" about Romania sweeping or that they are somehow solely to blame for the two per country rule. While you're looking for that evidence, maybe chill out a little. There's no need to be hostile.

Aly didn't even think she had a chance of qualifying for the AA final. That was a big deal for her. After the team went back into close quarters, it has been said by many people including Jordyn that they were there and reminded her that they still needed her for the team final that she helped a lot to get the team gold. I firmly believe that it is unfair to not let Jordyn into the AA final since she did rank 4th I believe overall. If it makes you feel better, Aly got beat out by Simone and Gabby at the 2015 worlds.

It's actually sad, but great TV. Jordyn was cheering on Aly before floor, but she should have realized there was still a possibility of this happening. Everyone had their upgrades before the Olympics and she didn't. Did she expect everyone to fall or step out of bounds at qualifications.

Yes, they are all so awkward together!! I think Jordyn did know though, going into floor she really wasn't as smiley as she can be and once she saw her floor score you could see in her face that she was counting up the scores and if Aly did as well as she usually does Jordyn would be out. She was saying 'Go Aly', but that's just kind of a reflex at that point. But once she saw her score she pretty much knew she didn't do enough.

I agree with you @Willow and @Mary Ann Payntor. But people will say "the sport has evolved and you must move on" , "your opinion is a minority". Yet it really does help with precision of spins, leaps, lines, toe point, stage presence and choreography, and balance. But the sport seems to only care about difficulty nowadays, to the point where the AA winner can win with 2 falls. Balance beam has become an event with zero balance due to there being no balance and "fluidity"and too much acro ability.

Once upon a time, ballet training was an "unofficial official requirement" for all gymnasts. Even if that gymnast had no desire to perform ballet, the basics, the fundamentals would be a TREMENDOUS help- poise, discipline, toe point, turns, flexibility, timing, spatial awareness/spotting during turns.... There's so much that ballet fundamentals can do for a gymnast!

The entire team was full of great gymnasts. The round only scored the performances on this day. This one day does not define a gymnasts but it did impact what other finals they would be in. Yes, it would have been great to see all 3 of them in the AA final, but we knew this was not possible. Gabby and Aly qualified just like Simone and Aly did in 2016. Clean cut, those are the results. No one else deserved or should have been in their spots because the earned them. Give all the women credit for what they earned on this day.

All the gymnast worked, trained and sacrificed for years with dreams to go to the Olympics, Rebecca Bross was favored to lead the Olympic team until she was injured and was never the same. The last three competitions Jordan, Aly, McKayla and Gabby were always in the mix and excellent AA Gymnast. McKayla was expected to do floor instead of Gabby, until she was injured, Because she was so good on vault she was selected. Jordan was struggling in her last three competitions, Bars and Beam were not her strong points, Beam wasn't Gabby's strong point, but did qualify for AA, Bars and Beam, and if she hadn't of bounce out of bounds possibly floor, Aly AA, Beam and Floor, Jordan Floor, McKayla Vault, Gabby stepped up her game and came through when it counted, If she hadn't, Russia would have been leading going into floor and could have changed everything They would have been the ones doing the safe solid routines and the US would have been doing the catching up. Gabby earned her AA, as did Aly, As we now know, There is no doubt in my mind that Nasser played a major roll in all the girls mental status when they needed to focus the most. Both leading up to the Olympics and during the Olympics. Which would explain Jordan's many small mental mistakes, Aly's errors on Beam, and gabby;s performance during individual Bars and Beam, neither look the same while performing.

For everyone down here and says that Jordyn should've been in Aly spot is wrong because Aly was the 2nd top qualifier behind Komova. Saying she doesn't deserve her spot when she out scored Jordyn AND Gabby is just complete bias over the fact that Jordyn was world champion the previous year meaning she should get an automatic spot. I truly believe Jordyn should've been in that final but because I think the 2 per country rule is not smart, not because I think she deserves it more than Aly or Gabby
@vanessae1270
@vanessae1270 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you I totally agree with you. I especially hated when people said Aly should give up her spot. Plus my friends and I totally called this happening at the Olympics either she wouldn't make the AA or someone else would get gold. Jordyn was solid but she never had one event where she really shined whereas Aly her weakest event was bars but she could bring in high scores on beam and floor. Not to mention Jordyn didn't even upgrade her routines for the olympics while everyone else did. Jordyn was the equivalent to Shawn/Nastia scenario in 2008 Shawn was solid on all 4 events but Nastia had 2 events where she would get over 16 plus her execution and start value were higher. Just because Jordyn is the World Champion she shouldn't have expected to get an easy ride into the olympic AA especially with the talent USA currently has. People were complain about the 2 per country rule when it has been in effect since 2001 after Sydney when Romania took all the medals in the Womens AA. People then complain about it just because the world champion didn't get a chance to defend her title.

Over which girl should Ebee have made the team? Jordyn wieber was the reigning world AA champion and was battling top 2 US with Gabby all year. Aly Raisman was a huge floor specialist with an Amanar and a great BB set, and was the rock and the best team player. Douglas was the rising star with big difficulty and wow factor on every event. Kyla Ross was needed on UB because that was the biggest weakness of this team. McKayla Maroney was the reigning world vault champion and was a guaranteed medal, and her floor was world class as well. Ebee had a fantastic trials, but she wasn't needed on that team. They didn’t need a 4th best AAer, or a 4th Amanar. Any other team would have love to get her.

To this day I don't like when people say Aly should have given up her spot to Jordyn, Aly wanted to be in the AA too, and Aly won her spot fair and square. In sports this big your teammates are also your competition. You are all competing against each other for spots on the team and medals. Even if Jordyn was in the AA she wouldn't have won gold. Komova had higher score on bars and upgraded her beam dismount which gave her the advantage over Jordyn. Jordyn was overhyped by NBC in the US as the next big thing but her coaches set her up for failure by taking her wins for granted. If people looked at the scores her wins were small margins and in the USA she was over scored, and she never made her connections on beam which caused her to get hammered in international competitions. Komova, Aly and Gabby all upgraded their routines for the Olympics. So two examples for past AA winners. In 2004 Carly was descent on vault but shined on beam and floor with 9.7's back when the code was out of 10 which got her the lead over Khorkina. In Beijing 2008, Nastia was weak on vault she made up for it with her execution on all events and scored in the mid 16's on two events. Jordyn didn't have one event were she really got really high scores that she shined on and she wasn't in a position like Simone where small mistakes wouldn't cost her the medals. Jordyn was more like Memmel where the team could rely on her on any event. So at 2011 World's Jordyn scores were 15.716 13.600 15.266 14.800. Komova 14.933 15.400 14.683 14.333. Total in AA Jordyn was 59.382 Komova 59.349, so you can see the small margin. In the Olympic qualifications Jordyn got 60.032, Komova 60.632, Gabby 60.265, Aly 60.391 so while you can see in the Olympic AA it wasn't a huge differences Jordyn wouldn't have won the AA. Komova was in the lead after day 1 but messed up in the final but she had a bit of an advantage over Jordyn.If Komova had hit in the AA she would have won gold. I think Jordyn's coaches just overestimated that she would be edged out by teammates. Now with Simone, the only way someone could edge her out is if on vault they did a yuchenko triple and the prudonova vault along with a high even bars in vein of Nastia's 2008 bar routine.

I think Jordyn Wieber was overwhelmed and cried because this was her first Olympics and her team just slayed everyone else and won. So I think she distanced herself to get her emotions together because her body was reacting. When you train and train and train and then you go to the Olympics and work hard and then your team wins and gets to go to the final, your body is just like "Did I just do that? Did we just slay everyone and win the first round? Oh my god!" It's something she's never experienced before and she needs a couple of minutes to take it all in an process it so she doesn't freak out. That's what I think was happening, I don't think she was just standing there alone, I think she did it because she was overwhelmed that she just did what she did.

Thing is that the head of any nation's gymnastics picks which three people get to compete to qualify for the All-Around and in 2016, Marta Karolyi chose Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, and Gabby Douglas, even though Laurie Hernandez had done better at the Olympic Trials. Marta had more faith in Gabby and chose her instead. If Laurie goes to the 2020 Olympics, there's a chance she could qualify for the All-Around then.

That was amazing. Kyla Ross...... at first, I thought that she was just a baby in this sport. But after seeing the way she competed on the events she did.... I was shocked. Expect to see her on the next dream team in Rio 2016! Kyla Ross rules!

I just think its really inspirational. If you think about it, the U.S. has climbed up the ladder in Olympic artistic gymnastics....last Olympics, the women got a silver medal, and this time, we won a gold.

I think Jordyn Wieber was overwhelmed because this was her first Olympics and her team just slayed everyone else and won.

Pur-Green: Have you ever heard the word Sportsmanship? Anyway, the Fierce Five Did Great, so did Russia, so did Romania, and so did every other team in the Finals, as well as those teams who did not get into the final. Every individual gymnast did amazing these Olympics, From Gabby Douglas to Hannah Whelan, every gymnast did amazing.

Channel 12345: They most likely didn't show it, probably because they felt that there were no need to show the same person doing the same thing twice. And I agree.

While the Brits are on the beam, you can see Bela in the background, light colored jacket. He can’t sit and is pacing, just like in the old days. I am so appreciative to the Karolyi’s for changing gymnastics in the USA.

I love Jordyn and she completely deserved a spot in the AA finals. She could've easily medalled there. So sad for her! Aly and Gabby are very good though, I just hate the 2 per country rule.

I agree with you that people were so much more upset that Jordyn didn't make the all-around than they would have been if Gabby were the odd one out, because Jo was the defending world champions and Gabby hadn't been expected to do so well. There's a few rules in the sport I don't like, this is one of them, but not just because of Jordyn. Russia, Great Britain and China all had athletes who got left out of the AA finals because of the 2-per-country rule, but no one seemed to make much of that.

The law of the land in the U.S. should not be to defend us, but rather, it should be to chant USA at every Olympic event.
