I live in the central US for a fraction of what it costs to live in Los Angeles, with slower pace, no traffic, short commute, very little crime, and I enjoy the four seasons. The negatives are no outdoor recreation, no mountains or ocean. Food isn't good, but I cook simple and healthy. I'll stay in the US, and travel to Europe as much as I can.

Europe is unbeatable, Italy on top; even having all troubles being a global attractive continent. Italian passport is always ranking as the world most powerful. Food, weather, arts and culture, lifestyle, public health and school systems, landscapes. No way. 😚🙏 Ciao Anna bella! 😘

I'm a recent (3 months) transplant from the US to Europe, but living in my motorhome instead of owning or renting. The food quality is much better here and so far I've felt safe, but it also requires some common sense, just like in the US and other countries. I'm also experiencing the healthcare system in the UK, which is better than the US based on cost (private) and care for the person.

Speaking as a 66 year old woman who was born and lived her whole life in the US, sadly our country is slowly burning to the ground. It used to be a great place to live, but for many reasons (several you mentioned) it is quickly becoming a nation of a small middle class. You are either wealthy or lower class. It's very sad to watch this decline over the decades. Depressing even. I have put much thought and research into moving to Norway ( my ideal) and can easily do so with my retirement income and savings, but I want my son to move there as well and he doesn't have an occupation that would get him residency. How can we overcome that obstacle? Not sure how to proceed.

I don't know the about the rest of the US, but in LA meat, eggs, milk, cheese, paper towels and toilet paper are VERY expensive. Vegetables are (relatively) cheap. I make good money and I often skip meat, except for my grandson, because it's SO expensive. Rent: An apartment I rented in Hollywood, which Ana would know isn't that fancy, has tripled in the last ten years. In Hollywood a 1 bedroom apartment is now THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS a month. I'm in a bedroom community further from all the culture and "fun stuff" and it's $3200 for a 3-bedroom. For me, the grandson, and his mom. If they jack up the rent, I don't know what we'll do. I think LA is pretty safe, if you're a local. If you look like a tourist, I dunno, maybe not so much. In the US, and especially LA, you're virtually a slave to your employer and freeway traffic.
