I've always been under the impression, as an American, that Italians brought their pizza to the U.S. so it's still Italian, but I know there's lots and lots of knock offs. I hope one day Atlanta and Denzel realize how lucky they are to travel around the world. Maybe they'll be ambassadors 😊 They have phenomenal parents. ❤

What's really interesting is that Italians have pizza as a national dish because Americans brought it over starting in World War II. Before then, it was only known and eaten in a handful of places, Naples most prominently. A great many Italian immigrants to America were from those regions, and they introduced pizza to Americans. Then American G.I.s in great numbers during the war wanted pizza no matter where in Italy they ended up, and that demand is what informed the rest of Italy that pizza was a thing, and of course they loved it. If it weren't for that, it might still be an obscure, regional dish there.

It’s subjective. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer. It’s just preference. But, for my vote, I always prefer NY style pizza. If you ever find your way up to Boston, you need to try Pizzeria Regina. It’s by far the best NY style pizza in OR out of New York. It’s been serving up the same slices on the North End since 1926. I think the family that founded the original location may have moved up from NY, so I think it still counts as NY pizza. It’s certainly NY style.

From what i remember on Cooking History with Max Miller, pizza in Italy dates back to pre Rome. Flat bread with oil and cheese baked and sold to the poorer class as a basic food staple for workers. Something they can pay a copper for and walk on. Then the next day any left over was sold at 5 for that price. So day old pizza was a classic even before tomato sauce was on it

Interesting fact: Fanta was developed in Germany during WWII by Coca Cola bottlers who couldn’t get their hands on the coke syrup during the war. A lot of people think it’s a Latin American product that Coca Cola just bought along the way but it’s from Germany (Fanta is almost as popular as regular coke in Latin America).

The fried pizza in Napoli looks like a calzone you would find in a NY pizzeria. It looks delicious! To a native New Yorker, there's only Italian pizza and NY pizza. You should try the original pizzeria in NYC though. It wouldn't sell slices at first. You had to buy a whole pie but then when it became popular outside of the Italian community and returning World War (both of them) soldiers, people wanted slices. That first restaurant, Lombardi's, wouldn't sell slices until competitors forced them to do so to stay in the game.

Pizza Margherita is a staple in NY and much of America as well. You should have compared pizza to pizza. I think you explained the Fanta issue slightly wrong. In the US, to call something "juice" it must be 100% juice. Fanta would be a "fruit juice drink" which can be as low as 6% juice as you said. But nobody calls Fanta "juice". And yeah, the companies do what they can get away with. That's why many Americans prefer Mexican Coke because it uses cane sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup as a sweetener. If they can get away with less juice, they will if it still sells.
@sbjorlond84657 ай бұрын
When you were talking about it being a "Pie", the pie refers to the whole pizza. You have a 'slice' of the pie. It's not eating pie like you would a British or Irish mince pie. It's a Pizza pie that you grab a slice of! Mostly called that due to the way it's cut similar to a pie would be cut.

As an Italian/Lithuanian-American, I'm an American first, but I greatly respect every immigrant who brought their culture and food over here with them, but I respect even more how those same immigrants made what they brought over better (or at least different) than what it was originally. So what I'm saying here is that I prefer what my Italian ancestors brought over here and made American-style pizza. If you've watched that video about Faux-American-style food by that Canadian guy, where everyone else thinks that if you just slap some hotdogs or corn on some food item, that it makes it "American-style"...like no, that's not what I'm talking about in this case. Because unlike in those cases where you just have natives who assume something is American by just adding something America is famous for, like the aforementioned Hotdog. What I'm talking about is immigrants from these original "motherland" countries, who emigrate over and then bring their food ideas with them, but change and/or improve on them because they either have more ingredients to choose from or because they want to appeal to a wider taste pallette in a nation made up entirely of immigrants. Know what I mean? These countries around the world that don't get a lot of immigration, tend to limit themselves on their food choices because they can. They only have to appeal to the same basic pallette across their relatively small country where 90+% of their population is of the same ethnicity. I feel that's what's wrong with the UK for example. Up until recent years with all their Muslim immigration, they have essentially been an ALL Anglo-Saxon culture and they settled on their Fish & Chips staple dish, right? Well, that might be all well and good if everybody is essentially the same ethnicity, right? But add in every ethnicity across the world all in a single country, and you're almost forces to constantly experiment with your food choices in order to appeal to so many different food pallettes. Hell, if anything, in America, what seems to work best is taking traditional dishes from other countries, and spicing them up a bit, figuratively speaking, but also maintaining the originals without desecrating them with ingredients that the native country would never use on such item. Like we'd NEVER put hotdogs on a pizza. Or creamed corn on one either. A pizzeria would get shot if they tried that here.

The 1st pizza you said was fried but in Texas we call that a Calzone, med pizza folded over and that is the canzone. The best pizza I have had in my 62 years was in Corpus Christi, TX. in a Parlor was Panjo's Pizza started in 1967.

It’s a panzerotto. They’re different than a calzone. They don’t really serve them outside of one specific region in the United States. You can find them all over Canada and Italy, though.

Having eaten pizza in both New York and Italy, I would say it comes down to where you eat it. I love NY pizza, but overall, Italy blows it away. We found a great little place in Venice that we go to when we're there. It's on one of the little backstreets and I have yet to see a name on the business, but really good pizza. The best we had by far was in Naples. Of course, they take their pizza making VERY seriously and it shows. Two places I was shocked to find good pizza - one was in Croatia and we had an excellent pizza the first time we visited Paris. Neither as good as Italy or New York, for that matter, but still very good.

Well the Italians wouldn't even have tomato sauce without tomatos from America.😜 At first they thought tomatos were poisonous. I think the Italians were the first Europeans to give tomatos a chance.

Spaniards. The tomato arrived in Spain before Italy, but Italian cuisine made them world famous as an ingredient.

Pizza is one of my favorite foods. My favorite pizza places from childhood were owned by Armenians. The crust has a cracker effect on the outside but layered on the inside and chewy. The sauce is hearty but a hint of sweetness and lots of cheese. MWAA!

Da Fam, here in the US, it's a matter of preference as to whether pizza's eaten with a knife and fork, or with hands only. Back in '86, while returning from a tour of Israel via Eurailpass, I stopped in San Marino, where I had an Italian pizza. I honestly wasn't ranking the 2 at the time, and just took it as an interesting cross cultural experience.

I hope you guys get to come to Boston, specifically, the North End. Eat some pizza at Pizzeria Regina. Best pizza ever.

NYC gets tons of hype, but the best pizza in the U.S. is in New Haven, CT. Frank Pepe's, Sally's, and Modern chew up NYC any day of the week! 🙂

I think its because the US, is not afraid to experiment, with lots of different things. When some countries say, why would you do that? The US, says why not.
