Sailor Moon, it's very similar in concept, and most likely an inspiration. It's about a school girl named Usagi, who becomes a protector of love and justice with her friends, though her primary mission is to protect the princess of the moon. The show got a reboot last year (which I haven't seen yet :/) And was a starter anime for a lot of people, including me. The show in itself had very good world-building, but as it was a manga from (I think) the 90's, the cast has very little diversity, aside from two lesbian characters who were referred to as cousins in the old show (though not in the japanese version.) It's a magical girl anime, so it doesn't have incredible imagination if it isn't the first one you've watched, though, to my knowledge it was the first to have those ideas of schoolgirl/slice of life/ magical girl ideas. The show itself is very moe, and meant for a younger audience till later seasons. The reboot has a lot of scrutiny for making the characters thinner, and with more unrealistic body types, but the drawing and pacing/story of the anime follows the comic much more, while the old show seemed based a little more loosely, including an extra story arc entirely, and a difference in style.
