I think everyone had just been misunderstanding Gabby because she was just being aggressive and focused. She really wanted to be on that team and she deserved that spot.(People need to stop saying she didn't want to be there because she wouldn't have if she didn't want to.) Think of how much that probably frustrated her, just because she wasn't smiling as much doesn't mean she's lost her passion for the sport, after all you guys didn't criticize Rebecca Bross for never smiling...

i just watched her movie today then read an article by a woman who was saying gabby should’ve been in the stands at rio and was being a “brat” because she wasn’t the center of attention. i never thought of her attitude as that at all i always put it up to her focus and the stress she had to be under trying to follow up the name she made for herself in london (especially with the stigma that gymnasts can’t make good comebacks from the olympics). it’s so sad to see honestly.
@MossyBallerina5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Also, I am very over men telling women they need to smile more. Gymnastics is a very challenging sport, and it requires a lot of focus. The gymnasts aren't there to smile and look pretty, they're there to perform extremely challenging routines. Not to mention the stress of it all, knowing the Olympics are so near. And I imagine it's even more stressful for someone like Gabby, who already had so much success, and was therefore being held to a higher level and being scrutinized more carefully than anyone else.

How did she prove anyone wrong? We said she was only contributing bars and there were others, and that she'd take someone else's (Laurie's) chance of trying for AA who was constantly scoring above her in AA. That was all true. She made the team as we all knew she would, cause Marta want going to leave her off. However, her being on the team meant of course she would try for AA, which meant that Laurie didn't get to try even though she was outscoring Gabby in AA at this comp by 2.7 points and in trials by 3.7 points, which is a ridiculous amount and should've made things clear-cut. I love Gabby, always have, but her previous awesome accomplishments don't get to dictate current placement. However, those past accomplishments put her on the team when she didn't necessarily have to be, but more importantly, it also stole a chance for Laurie to try for AA, when Laurie had earned it over Gabby. Then, her only contributing score in quals to getting the team to finals was bars, even though she competed all four in quals. So she was top 3 of 4 US scores in ONLY 1 out of 4 events in quals for the US team. In team she only competed bars. She contributed a great bars score for the team to get gold but that was her only event in team competition and we had others (at least one, Ashton) we could've taken who were also excellent at bars. In bars finals she messed up. That can happen to anyone and I'm not ragging on her for it. But that's hardly "proving everyone wrong," to take the place of fighting for AA of someone who EARNED it more, to not make good on it and contribute only 1 score for qualifying your team out of 4 events you competed, whereas the person who had earned the right to fight for AA contributed 3 scores to qualifying your team out of 3 events she competed, and to not deliver on the one event final she made it to.

I am in love with how diverse America is, I feel honored to be a part of it. I've been binge watching these Gymnastic events, and it's interesting to see China/Japan/etc. who are only Asian, Russia/Bulgaria/etc who are usually blonde white girls, and then you have America. We have African American girls, white girls, Italian girls, and all the likes. I know it might sound bias, but I truly am grateful to live in such a diverse country

@bryanthan70998 жыл бұрын
+liceous I doubt Maggie will make it even if she regains the level she was at last year because USA doesn't need a floor worker but sort of need a vault and also not an AA gymnast that is subpar. USA rather take mykayla which can post good vault scores internationally and can even medal in vault finals. Kocian will probably make it because she has a chance in ef but the other person that I think shouldn't make it is gabby

I completely agree. If she doesn't upgrade her vault, I don't see why they would take her just to compete bars in team final. They could take both kocian and locklear and compete aly, simone, and laurie on the other three events with laurie or simone on bars. She needs vault to be valuable (at least to me) because laurie or aly could go into AA and win silver.

@agrady21368 жыл бұрын
totally agree. although I prefer Locklear over Kocian in terms of artistry, Kocian's difficulty will get her on that team and make her a contender in the bar final. Gabby's clean technique is valuable to the team on vault with or without the amanar. but she will need it if she wants to qualify for the all around final (which of course, she does) because Aly and Laurie are strong and most importantly, consistent competitors.
@amybrown77238 жыл бұрын
I agree with everyone but Madison. I wouldn't be angry if it was Madison instead of Ashton but Madison so often misses connections in her bar routine. So even with her higher start value, she ends up scoring lower.

I've been thinking the same thing. Simone is a lock to compete all 4 events in qualifications, so the question is: who is Marta going to give the other two spots to? At this point, I think Aly has stepped it up and in proving herself to be worthy of one of those spots....she's still gotta get through trials but on a good day, she beats Laurie and Gabby unless Gabby gets an Amanar. If she does, she's in there, too....if not, I still think Marta will have her compete the AA because she's the Olympic champion...but it woooould be pretty dope to see Laurie in the AA final. Either way, we'll still get to see her compete at least 3 events in qualifications.
@SonOfAGun18148 жыл бұрын
why use gabby on vault? is she going to magically be able to do a good amanar by next friday? gabby and laurie are eye for eye on vault, but laurie averaged just a little bit better. and why use gabby on bars? she's currently ranked 6th best on that event in the usa? gabby adds no team value as things currently stand. if gabby doesn't have a spectacular trials and have some upgrades, i wouldn't put her on the team..... i'd take simone/aly/laurie (locks) and someone like mckayla skinner who can get a big vault score and a bar specialist. even simone did better than gabby on bars at p&g's with a mistake and lower start values

I'm really pulling for Laurie to make the team. She's just so consistent all around. I'd pick her over Ragan anytime
@thelilredhead70058 жыл бұрын
I love cute little Ragan, but I agree, Ragan isn't ready yet, and Laurie certainly is more than ready.
@uuuupppssie8 жыл бұрын
just the consistency across the board. besides vault (since many can do the amanar and she has yet to get hers), they can put her everywhere since she can get a good/high scores. there's a reason why she was third all around recently. hopefully she Marta picks her as one of the five

Lol I can't believe that people are actually thinking there are viable options beyond Simone, Aly, Gabby, Kocian/Locklear, Hernandez/Nichols. 4 AAers, 1 specialist. Gabby and Simone are already being referred to as Olympians in the media. Aly got placed in the lineup, as did a spot for a specialist on bars. The last spot is gonna go to Laurie or Maggie (with Laurie having the edge right now). It doesn't actually matter who we take, people. Pretty much any combination of those seven (with Simone being the constant) will walk away with team gold. The selection committee is looking at how we can maximize that. We don't need two bars specialists. We don't need Maggie AND Laurie. We don't need AAers that don't have any singularly outstanding events because two people aren't going to be competing AA in qualifications no matter what. We all have our favorites but realistically, this isn't rocket science lol
@Girlhead8 жыл бұрын
I know, right. lol. Aly, Gabby, Simone are already on the team. I think Laurie is also going- but very few others have a chance. The other girls are beautiful, talented, amazing and going to have great college careers barring injury, but they are not going to the Olympics.
@KaraMYoung8 жыл бұрын
girlhead4477 I was talking to someone else and I can maybe see Maggie Nichols going over Madison Kocian if Maggie has her Amanar back by Trials but honestly it's a crap shoot smh I didn't think Aly would be doing the AA in qualifications but I think she might now and they'd just swap Laurie or Maggie into the lineup for finals like they did at Worlds. But if Gabby has a good Amanar like some people are saying she will, then we could afford to leave Maggie and bring Madison to boost our bars score. Idk what's gonna happen but Simone, Gabby, and Aly are going and most likely competing AA. We'll know for sure in a week!
@SonOfAGun18148 жыл бұрын
The Maximum Potential Points/Medals 2016 USA Olympic Women's Gymnastics Team is: Simone Biles (aa, vault, bars, beam, floor) Aly Raisman (aa, vault, beam, floor) Laurie Hernandez (bars, beam, floor) Madison Kocian (bars) McKayla Skinner (vault) Alternatives: Ragan Smith Maggie Nichols Gabby Douglas
@KaraMYoung8 жыл бұрын
snofagun1814 you really need to get over this Skinner thing. She was the traveling alternate for Worlds last year and was left off in favor of Brenna Dowell even though she could have challenged for a vault medal lol that wasn't the point. Maggie Nichols was second in the nation but Aly and Gabby were the ones who competed the AA in qualifications at Worlds. This is about making history...Marta's "swan song." She's not leaving the reigning Olympic champion and reigning world AA silver medalist behind in favor of someone who could MAYBE medal on vault (which I think is a stretch with Hong Un Jong, Maria Paseka, and Giulia Steingruber in the mix).
@SonOfAGun18148 жыл бұрын
brenda isn't going to rio..... mckayla adds more value on team vault than gabby does anywhere as you know. sorry you'll have to get over it at some point sis. you gabby people love to talk about past situations that have nothing to do with trials and rio! usa! usa!

Skinner's fall reminds me of Alicia Sacramone's in 2008. It's a shame gymnasts won't do interesting mounts like that, but with that risk, it makes sense. And with that second fall, it looks like she really hurt herself. She was hobbling afterwards. I feel bad for her.

I wish they would stop talking while the gymnast performs. Especially at 4:10. Comment in the replays. We can all see the wobble without your help. Shut up, shut up, shut up and let us watch it. And get the camera out of Gabby's face and leave her alone. She made a little mistake and now she's upset. It's natural.

This is so me,lol. Also +Dhshdd JHahahw the comment or wasn't being rude,they were saying that as dancers watching gymnasts turns is weird because they are very different. Most dancers would wince a bit just because in our eyes that's not how turns are done. I can't do some of their turns though. Mad respect for gymnasts,of course,from all dancers,we can't do half the stuff gymnasts do and most dancers love watching gymnastics,I find. She wasn't "judging" rudely,calm down.

so gabby and Simone have very similar mistakes on beam but they only critique gabby and act like Simone had the most amazing save. come on Tim its OK to criticize Simone. 😒
@youngcontrarian85325 жыл бұрын
Well, at this point Simone is the the World Champion on beam so it's pretty safe to assume she was just having an off day as she stated "my legs are so dead". Even if she fell off beam she would have still won and was going to Rio anyways. Gabby didn't have that luxury so her messing up on beam was a lot more consequential.
