Highlights of the 3 heats of the men's 200m featuring Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, Wallace Spearmon and Christophe LeMaitre at the London 2012 Olympic Games (8 August).
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

@sincitydude31
@sincitydude31 10 жыл бұрын
No. And despite what a couple people said defending it, most track coaches hate when their runners do it. I ran track in both high school and college, and slowing down was something i had a habit of doing when i knew i had a race won. The 200 was my best race and i would slow down when i was far enough ahead and it drove my sprint coach in college crazy! He literally yelled at me a couple of times until he was red in the face to stop doing it. If i did i would have to do extra conditioning the next practice. A lot of sprint coaches feel like even if you have a race won, that you should at least try to improve on your time as much as possible, so slowing down is pointless to them. But i guess when you are a world-class sprinter like these guys are then you can get away with it. But despite what people may tell you, no, slowing down really does not save that much energy.
@Toetothunder
@Toetothunder 9 жыл бұрын
Rogene Roper no not really, its more of a psychological thing. It strikes fear in the other sprinters as they think 'woah he must be really fast when he tries' thats what i think anyway lol and you dont want to let the cat out of the bag too early so they save their best performance for the final

@Zayne simard moore It is ruthless but the best rule IMO - problem was athletes would exploit the false starts allowed to put pressure on those faster
@glenxoseph
@glenxoseph 3 жыл бұрын
@Zayne simard moore “the stupid rule” has actually been changed twice. Before 2003, every athlete had two chances of false start. In 2003, because of the rampant false starts that wastes everyone’s time, they changed it to, if anyone false starts, then everyone gets a warning, and whoever did it the second time gets dq. But still, many athletes take a risk to false start. Either they get away with it and be like 0.02 seconds faster, or they get caught and get a warning and simply restart, they have nothing to lose. That’s why in 2009, the rule changed to whoever false starts gets disqualified immediately.

@@glenxoseph yeah i remember the change in 2003. John drummond of the USA got dq in the rounds in the wc in paris. And he caused a scene claiming he didnt move and wouldnt leave the track. 🤣

It's a nice thought but he wouldn't have gone below 19.19 because that's the world record that was set by Bolt and besides the heats don't matter so much as long as they win or qualify. The time to go all out is in the finals so it's best to save the energy for that.

Lemaitre needs more muscle. Look at guys like Yohan Blake, Tyson Gay, even Bolt with his height, they're muscular. He's fast but he could be way better.

I don't know... Warren Weir is real skinny though. I think he looks even slimmer than Lamaitre

Different genetics though man. Jamaicans are naturally fast, even being skinny. I'm not exactly sure if he needs muscle to give him more explosiveness, just a guess. I do see what you're saying though.

TheLordSnowbro Yah... Something for us to think about as you suggest. Lets see if Lamaitre and Weir do more weight training.

the whole aspect of it is that you want to be as light as posible but as strong as possible in terms of fast twitch. Which is why all weight lifting, drills and power training is all done and lifted quickly for explosivnesss, not to build mass of muscle. Naturaly your muscle size will increase but that is not the aim. a good example is harry akins, he used to be very big and didnt need that size (he is extreemly strong) but i think now hes gone down in size. Different athletes develop differently though, and you can see this at different times of the season with the athletes their size sometimes is bigger early season rather than late season as their weight sessions and reps may decrease, but things like their core and quick movement of high weight but less reps increase, which is why they may look a bit more lean and ripped. But again its just different athletes

Kloud9reacher the size of your muscle does not determine how strong you are. People need to understand this when it comes to even general training and in the gym. Especially with athletes.....dont underestemate athletes at all
