Asafa was a great sprinter but under pressure it seems he could not handle it. Glad you brought him up though as he still one of the all time greats
@416yaadie3 жыл бұрын
It's not that. His legs couldn't handle the rounds. One run he would kill you but to repeat his body didn't recover fast enough to come back and go even faster. Remember at that time you did 4 rounds in 2 days. I see it all the time in training with my athletes. They will give you one or 2 good runs but they can't sustain it when they gotta come back with a certain amount of rest
@abone2pick3 жыл бұрын
@@416yaadie the olympics only have 3 rounds and Powell basically jogged through the first 2 so no. He just couldn’t handle the pressure.
@416yaadie3 жыл бұрын
@@abone2pick in 2008 you had 4 rounds what might look like a jog he is still expending alot energy. I can speak from past experience where you would do a run feels easy and your expecting the next one to be faster when you try a little harder but the next run feels harder at the end. Asafa ran 9.90 in semis it obvious his body didn't recover fast enough come back and go 9.8 or 9.7. if you remember the race he got out good but when he tried to extend himself his body said no. That's a sign of fatigue. What he needed to fix that was running more 200 but because he had a groin injury right before he broke the world record he didn't much 200s after 2005 and you see the results in his championship performances. The race where he ran 9.83 and Bolt ran 9.77 that's basically should have been how the race in Beijing should have happen but that didn't happen!

@Tom Park Yeah, I think even though he's the fastest person ever, he depends on his long strides and top speed to overtake anyone that got a good head start. In reality though, a lot of those smaller sprinters would catch him in 60m.
@Power53 жыл бұрын
@Tom Park Those are important numbers as well, but the race is to 100m, not any of those splits.
@SpaghettiToaster3 жыл бұрын
@Tom Park Isn't 100m considered sprinting? It's the shortest Olympic running distance and it's basically a test of explosive starting and top speed, both of which are considered factors of sprinting. 60 meters might reward explosiveness and acceleration more than top speed, but I'd say that any distance where endurance is not the limiting factor is a sprint.
