I'm retired now but I can absolutely relate to all of this. I was Security Forces for 20 of my 30 years in the Air Force. Can be a very rewarding but a thankless job at times. But you have to be disciplined and mentally strong. I wouldn't trade my years with Security Forces for anything.

@@thomasryan2679 I chose the career field. I had a huge choice but chose SF. I got to do Swat stuff. Train with Civilian Swat Teams. Go outside the wire. And do some cool stuff. But yes, the guarding tasks can be boring. Netflix and books came in handy for passing the time. I was originally a Security Specialist which was Security Police at the time. Then Security Forces after that. I would've crossed trained into AC maintenance or CE but didn't want to go back through tech school and CDCs again.

@@thomasryan2679 Yes. We trained with Civilian SWAT Teams. Got some High Risk Warrant Training, Active Shooter Training, Combat Sustainment Training. I was Military Customs certified, worked with US Customs and Border Patrol on clearing Military aircraft arrivals from overseas locations for a 12 year period. I was also a baton instructor. I got to do quite a bit of training over the 21 years that I was in the SF Career Field. As far as after my Military career, I chose a totally different path. I did work at a shooting range for 9 months before getting my CDL. I've been driving an 18 wheeler for the past 5 years for a very good company. But I've also been a driver instructor and Company Orientation Facilitator during the past 5 years too. I can say that having a pension along with the great pay I make now is a plus. My time in SF was rewarding and I believe that it helped me, in a lot of ways, in what I do now.

Late response but from what I’ve heard they’re PT is the same as Marines PT so basically it’s harder than Airforce standards but not as hard as Navy Seal training or anything like that

If your scared to join just because you can’t swim then why not go learn how to swim? Like come on.. that’s a pathetic excuse
@DuhJuan

Nick York I don’t think anybody made an excuse to not join because we can’t swim, we both just simply said we can’t swim. And I’m leaving for BMT in October big fella. Swimming isn’t necessary for BMT nor Sec-Fo so it doesn’t matter anymore, we found our answer

Just recieved Security Forces, what job does this transfer to in the Civilian workforce besides a police officer. I want to go State Trooper, Homeland or FBI route but I'm not interested in schooling.

Raul Reyes I just talked to my recruiter the other day about that, he said it would be good to get the law experience but also do some type of operations work. The average person in the Air Force will go through like 2 jobs in there Air Force careers
@alexsmith6914
@alexsmith6914 5 жыл бұрын
None lol You will get NO job in civilian LE without going through their process. You'll also need a bachelor's degree to go Federal and a minimum of an associate's degree for a police academy. The only thing you'll get are a few extra veterans preference points if you pass their exams. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's the truth.
@RaulReyes-dd3di
@RaulReyes-dd3di 5 жыл бұрын
@@alexsmith6914 so with that being said. Any job In the airforce still gives you credit towards becoming a police officer? Because hell I'd would rather do traffic management, HVAC, or services for the benefits and military experience
@alexsmith6914
@alexsmith6914 5 жыл бұрын
@@RaulReyes-dd3di Yep, You'll have Veteran's preference from anything. It's a messed up system between military & civilian LE. That was the whole reason I did it and was disappointed. If I knew that going in, I'd have gone into a different AFSC.
