Im not going to lie as an american it feels like something out of fiction. The scramble alert, bunker doors opening, and the air raid siren in the background. I hope we’ll never need to actually shoot something down in the future
In a world where F-22’s and F-35’s are far more common place, NOBODY disrespects the mighty F-15 eagle!!! A total feeling of relief when you hear eagles are airborne and fear from potential adversaries! 🇺🇸

I love scramble starts. There is nothing like jumping into a jet that is alert postured. It’s really a keen acknowledgement that you absolutely know your flying art. Flew alert postured kc135’s both j57 and cfm 56 engines. It’s also cool that all traffic is cleared when you start taxiing. You have a straight pathway without interruption to takeoff. You don’t get to see that or experience that in daily ops. It’s pretty cool to say the least.

Usually 5-15 minutes from the sound of the alarm. Our unit had a rule that the bird would be in the air in under 5 minutes from the time the pilot arrived at the aircraft. It does not take long and your adrenaline is pumping hard. Now when I was on 141s and we were on alert, that was a bit different. When I got the call at 2am to report for duty , I had to be at the base in 60 minutes or less which was 3am and 3 hours later the first 141 left and we were told we were launching them every 30 minutes until they were all gone. That was the beginning of what was named a few days later Operation Desert Shield and then when the air strikes commenced it was renamed Operation Desert Storm. I was on one of the last to leave but I’ll never forget the goosebumps I had watching the very first aircraft lift off and not knowing where my brothers were headed cause at that time we had been briefed by the Colonel that this was not an exercise, it was what we had been training for!! We got our orders a few hours after we were in the air and had made a quick stop at Dover AFB to pick up some extra F-16 pilots to Uber them to Spain where they had extra aircraft without pilots and our orders came across as we were have way between the east coast of the US and the Azore Islands about 1k miles off the coast of Spain. I’d do anything to be able to go back and serve again today even tho I’m beat up too bad now but I miss it everyday!!

The f-16 generates up very quickly ,and they are in a alert posture when online in the alert facility which is always positioned very close to the eor on a fighter base .I'm not sure about other aircraft .There still are b-52s loaded and on alert today .l expect they take much longer to scramble and become airborne .They practice all the time though. Usually a scramble takes place every 2 days or so in an alert facility. And the crew chief and pilot never know it's not the real thing until the airplane is ready for taxi and they stand down as a drill over the radio.
That is by no means a “minivan.” It is totally a regular work van. Only the extended cab vans are bigger.
