What I love about this engine is it's also a symbol of the strong friendship between the United States and the United Kingdom.

Even though if I remember reading right, it spent the entirety of it’s post war life in Poland.

@@MachRacer4 This particular one did, but I think he was just referring to the class in general. There were a few members of the class that did spend their wartime careers in Britain.

Especially recently it was the anniversary of D Day and these locomotives were important for the invasion efforts.

It's cool to see an American locomotive operating in England.

I've rode this train a good few times, right there on the worth valley railway, a beautiful place, when I was a primary school aged kid ( 30 Yeats ago ) he seemed to have been there for a while as I remember going year after year with my dad and this was my favorite regular engine, very powerful. Then as I got a bit older he wasn't there anymore, my dad said he had gone back to America.

The S160 is a nice fusion of US and UK locomotive design.

It’s essentially an American locomotive that’s been built smaller for European use. I like to think that they have a bit of a napoleon complex because of their small stature next to other American consolidations.

@@SouRwy4501Productions There is a engraving from the late 1800s comparing locomotives from the US, Britain, France, Germany, and British India and the American locomotive towered over the rest of them.

@@ZAV1944 American loading gauge is frankly kind of insane compared to almost everything else (save for Australia, who run USA-sized trains).

@@davidfuller581 My assumption was that they were bigger so they would have more power and endurance over the long distances of North America.

How is the whistle operated then? As I can’t see any visual steam when it sounds.
@theextremeanimator47213 жыл бұрын
It's hard to see the steam from the whistle

It runs off the air pump why im not sure theres an air tank ontop of the tender for the brakes and the whistle runs off of that
