I am now a registered physician. It was my father's dream to become a doctor but he was not able to enroll to medicine before because they did not have enough financial support. He took BS-biology as his college course, So instead of pursuing medicine, he worked as an accountant after he got his college degree, which was totally differrnt from what he studied in college. He did not force me to become a doctor but he told me that i had the potential of becoming one and mom told me his story and so i did it. Finished med school for him. Thanks dad.

My dad always was a really smart guy growing up but his dad passed away when he was 12. He has 8 siblings so he ended up studying economics in college to be out of school in 3 years to support his younger siblings. None of the 9 siblings ("the trunks") could afford to become doctors. Now, NINE of their kids ("the branches") are doctors including me who is in medical school.

Having a degree means nothing these days with the economy crashing stocks are not doing anything right now what America truly use to be isn’t anymore that true dream of hard working people individuals who could place their money in certain spots and build whatever they wanted in order to employ others and giving everyone a chance to work and live has been gone . I cried when I saw her mom dropped to her knees. I’m a 27 year old who just finished my undergraduate. When my father got sick in 2011, me and my 2 brothers had to stop college. He was in and out of the hospital and in 2014 the doctor said his heart condition is not good - and that he could experience an attack anytime. Me and my brothers went our separate lives and worked different jobs (Fastfood chains, call centers, etc…). In 2015 I was accepted on a well-paying online job that allowed me to pay my rent (I lived independently at that point), and it gave me extra time to slowly take university courses and enroll on a degree granting program. It took me 5 years because I had to dabble between my classes and time for work. There were times I only had to sleep 2 hours a night because of the workload and the school paper requirements. Fast forward 2020, I finished my studies, and got my degree. Sadly, due to the pandemic my dad was not able to witness my graduation rites. But hopefully next year he will. That would be a great gift for him. Now, I’m trying to find a new job. And will then help my brother get to school without him needing to work.

My father would dream of finding books and pencils as a child growing up in a village with no school. He'd wake up crying because it was only a dream. He never went to school but learned to read and write and maths all by himself and with the help of his employers when he was working on construction sites. He would always emphasize the importance of education to me and my siblings. We have all became academics and I have become a dentist. He never realised his dream of education but we did it for him.

@Rafael Arturo Mateo Núñez I think that the US makes it more competitive because theres not as much of a need, so they weed out extra people. Aphro actually there is plenty of need in the US, in fact there should be more medical schools opening or larger class sizes imo. Undergrads have to jump through 1000 hoops to get accepted to medical school nowadays, which is why there are shortages everywhere, especially in hospitals. It’s not as noticeable if you live in a big city, but trust me, the demand definitely outpaces supply year after year.

"Lo que no hizo el tronco, que lo hagan las ramas." What a beautiful quote. My mother brought my siblings and me from D.R in '76 and boy did she sacrificed a lot (even physical abuse by my youngest brother's dad). So I make sure to thank her each moment I can. I obtained an associate degree in Paralegal Science 2015 but I continue to march forth for the Castro/Martinez legacy.

Why I’m crying 😢 Oh God I pictured my kids inside her. As a parent what makes you happy more than this. Proud of you sister.
