I want to update my previous comment. I am recently on this subject, catching up with Wii/GCN games. This tutorial is very concrete and hepful, but from my recent experience, the majority of problems is related to the consol compatibility with the specific USB devices. For example: I was trying to put some games into USB sticks. It turns out, some of them work with GX loader but not with Nintendont and vice versa (even if they are formatted exactly the same way). The same with old, small capacity HDD drives (my old 80GB HDD have the same compatibility issues as USB sticks). But if you use some standard HDD drives (300 GB and up) with a decent cable, they work like a charm, even fast formatted in Windows environment. I know that Wii is not compatibile with USB 3.0, but somehow such devices works even better and are more reliable as for compatibility with different loaders.

bro im so glad I subbed to you months ago!! you came in clutch when I had to update my switch OLED mod chip, and here we are several months later and this tutorial was THE ONLY ONE that can actually solve my issues with why my Wii was not able to detect a hard drive and sd card! tried all the previous steps everyone else mentioned of formatting to fat32, but not one other person mentioned to change the partition type to 0xc and that fixed it for me after several weeks of troubleshooting!!

This might sound dumb but I spent AGES without playing because it didn't detect the USB and when I searched for info I just found people saying that you had to take it to repair. Turns out all I had to do was switch ports between the USB and another thing that I have to charge the controllers and boom, all the games are there. Sadly summer is finishing and I'm very busy but after 6 or 7 years I'm for sure gonna find the time to play Pokepark 1 and 2 again. This was really helpful and I feel very dumb now.

After changing the "Partition Type ID" from 0x0B to 0x0C, the pendrive continues at 0x0B. The app didn't really change it.

Hi all, I also noticed if you go into the configuration in the loader gx . In the hard drive settings you can change the game install partition. By highlighting the option and pressing A. But that's if you can get that far

Great video! I solved the problem by converting the drive from GBT to MBR. GBT drive has a boot partition that is not formatted FAT32 even you try to format the whole drive as FAT32 with FAT32 GUI tools

I thought NTFS drives work also and are actually better because they don't require a layer break for big files UPDATE: I found the reason why my games wouldn't load was not due to my hard drive being NTFS but due to my SD card being above the max size of 32gb. Switched from a 64gb to 32 and now they load fine.

cuz 64 gb dont handle fat32 as the usb loader gx requires fat 32 flash drive ,you could have format it with easeus into fat 32

After hours and hours of wasting time and other tutorials I ended up on this video, one of the most detailed, serious, useful and precise ever seen after days of research. Subscription and like are deserved regardless, now I just have to go home after work and try, I'm sure I'll be able to solve that annoying problem with USB Loader GX which doesn't detect my pendrive even though I managed to start it the first time with a test game backup with Wii Party, inserting 3 more games no longer detects anything. Another absurd thing is that I often have to press button 1 on the remote controller to enable "View Wii Games" but regardless it shows me the error "USB Device not initialized. Switching to channel list mode." Definitely a problem due to my USB peripheral, with HDD everything goes smoothly, but when it comes to pendrive (rightly formatted exclusively in WBFS) there is always something that goes wrong on my Wii.

I just attempted to mod a virgin Wii with a 256gig sandisk usb drive 3.0. Nothing I tried could get it to work (including all the steps in this video). It would work once or twice, then fail loading the game. Other drives worked, but not the new one. Finally, I thought to try formatting the drive as "wbfs" using Wii Backup Manager. It finally worked. So....if fat32 just will not play nice, try formatting to wbfs.

This is the ultimate solution for this very common problem. Long time ago I discovered that indeed the Xbox 360 is formatting the device in a way which allows to use the device with GX Loader but I had no idea what makes the difference. Now I know, thanks to you. Great job, bro!

I need help, this is strange but only WiiFlow can read my flash drive and not USBLoaderGX nor CFG USB loader. It used to work before but not anymore. Also, GX loader won't even read the NAND channels. Do you know any reasons why that happens? Will appreciate a response thank you.

I have known for a long time that the SD Card need to be FAT32 format. Only recently, I watched a video where someone claimed the USB device required NTFS format (or the other option in Windows). But that FAT32 would not work. It seemed strange that the Wii uses FAT32 on SD Cards but something different on USB storage devices. Well my suspi cions were proper because according to. this guy it has to be FAT32. From reading a few comments I can see that FAT32 is the way to go. Oh well, KZbinrs can be wrong or make mistakes like any one else.

If your games show Up but still not load, make sure that if you downloaded your rom and It was already compressed, press extract here and not dragging It onto the desktop, this happened to me when i was downloading Mario kart wii

Anyone please help. I'm constantly having problems with my wii ever since I switched to a new wii. Lately 64gb usbs haven't been working,. I'm doing everything I can but when I finally used a third party program to try and recover some bad blocks (didn't work still stuck at 57/64gb) the wii stopped recognizing the usb AGAIN. Eventually I changed it to 0xC using DiskPart commands but now it won't bring up my wii games. And it keeps freezing in the global settings window. The wii can read the usb its just being tempermental again and I don't know what I did to make it start reading .wbfs again Figured it out something is corrupting my apps folder

The 0x0c FAT32 LBA option doesn't seem to exist. I've tried two different hdds and a newer version of the mini format tool, but the drive ID type is always a long alpha-numeric string, and the option to change it to one of the pre-defined ID types consists of other equally long IDs.

ok so loader gx no longer freezes which is great but still doesn't read anything on my flash usb and switches to channel list and yes I plugged it into the right port and format it to fat32, downloaded current updated usb loader gx and d2x cios installer still nothing and what's weird first time setting it up worked fine starting up new super mario bros then went to play another game then my wii went black then I reset it and reupload loader gx then it stopped reading usb so I went to check on the files and there were all messed up so I reformat it to clear the files and then I recopy the files onto it. Loaded the usb again and usb loader gx just stopped reading it and freezes at usb initializing even trying another usb still nothing

What is the purpose of USB Loader? Is it needed for GC games? When I load Nintendont directly it gives me the option to choose USB anyway. Having the box art interface is nice, but it feels like I'm taking an extra step for no real reason. I've given up on Wii backups since in my furthest attempt (game showed up, but didn't load beyond initial boot screen) my USB stick died and had to be replaced.

I've followed your instructions now, tried both a USB 2.0 and 3.0 drive, still can't find USB. Edit: if i open USB loader from homebrew menu it loads, but can't find any games. If i check game load in settings it does find the USB device. But no games. And I've tried unhide them etc

When I try to change my partition ID it doesn't give the options that you get. It gives me these options: EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87c0-68B6B72699c7-Windows- basic data partition, Sony Boot Partition, LDM Meta Data Partition, Bios Boot Partition etc. Each come with a long combination of letters, numbers, and dashes. My hard drive is about 5-6 years old but still works for my ps4 and wiiu. Do you think my hard drive is out dated? I formatted it to fat32.

Hey man, I accidentally loaded USB loader without my usb, then it said something about switching channels and now it only shows my main menu applications like USB loader and the mii channel. Is there a way to switch back, thank you

Ark.Fxシ open usb loader and click the 4th option from the left on the top bar. disable nand channels and enable wii and gamecube games

Please help me. I have home brew and custom firmware installed on my Wii U. I want to be able to play Wii games through hombrew. I have tried everything and my system will not recognize my external hard drive. I have a usb stick that was recognized by the will, but not by usb loader. It will say something like: waiting for HDD with a countdown. I’ve tried everything and I’m very frustrated. Any advice will help. Thank you

sthetix I’ve done all the steps except changing the partition. I tried doing what the other commenter suggested, but it didn’t work. The partition style is MBR. Is that okay or do I need to change it?

u need to change the partition type id to 0xc

@@sthetixofficial ty, yea I got it sorted. I wanted to use that one because I had it laying around, I ended up pulling the 256Gb microsd from my raspberry pi build and just using that. Do you know if I'm able to use usb loader as a front-end to launch nintendont so I can have artwork?

Thanks bro, I used s random 2.0 usb flash drive, all you gotta do is format it to fat32 and download the usb loader gx apps folder on there and a wbfs folder with a .wbfs game in it and it works

My gx loader was working fine but when i added the last 2 games it opens but once i select a game it dosen't open and I can t select anything I still see the gx menu but I can select anything. What should I do?

I used this tutorial and it probably worked but when i whas changing the format i didnt read the changing format vill delete everything stored part 😅 the wii was not connecting to the drive where all the games where stored. at least i can still put more games on the drive. it was not fun losing all the progress on the games (including the games) it sucks not being a computer geek 😢

where did u put the app? inside the usb drive or the sdcard? u need to choose one location.

You don't need a separate app for formatting your usb.. just right click the drive, click format, and do all from there

You need to use an external disk formatter IF your drive is larger than 32GB.
