@@Flyspray420 I admit that it’s possible I’m looking at this incorrectly but I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I’m not convinced he’s lying about any of this. At this point, I’m leaning towards him actually believing what he’s saying but he’s just convinced himself of all these misconstrued facts. Things like “Oh, I know they said they fired my for stalking but they really fired me because of the rumor about a portal”. Like, sure, any reasonable person would never conclude that but I think he could easily do that if he wanted to believe it badly enough. One reason I think this is because it’s pretty wild that he would sue the school for defacement if he actually thought the reason he was fired was for sexual misconduct. I realize it’s not strong evidence and it’s a lot of speculation but I’m curious what you think.

well , its a document made to accuse him of a crime by people trying to avoid paying him money. They are trying to present it as if the statement was said as an independent statement and without any context. I would say there are contexts which can justify this. If you have any idea about Ammon , he talks like a literal character from a drama. And he likes talking in hyperbole and metaphors. Which might make people uncomfortable , and so he might have said it to point out that he is just acting. People here are just forgetting here that , Ammon sued them for defamation and its defamation 101 that you can't sue someone for something that is true. And it is expected that the opposition tries to push against them by asking such questions and creating such documents. And even if he lost , doesn't mean he is wrong and the accusations are true. You can be right and still lose such cases. And if a school wants to remove someone for an ideological difference , they would be foolish to say that out loud. Obviously they made an excuse. This is a disingenuous video made to character assassinate Ammon.

He got custody of his kids, correct? The courts would not place minors with adults who have a history of abuse. Did he have a messy divorce? Sounds like it but this is hardly criminal or even unique. Re: your claim he is running a "cult"...he uses that term a lot and sort of leans into it even but does not collect money. My questions are...how is Hillman different from any other preacher? Could you not also categorize literally any other preacher as a "cult leader"? I don't see a difference frankly.

Yes you’re right. He got custody of his kids so it’s almost certain that his wife had some type of abuse. No, I’m not claiming Ammon has done anything criminal. I'll just cite an expert in coercive control and cults who defines a cult as an "idealogy or leader that cultivates extreme devotion and commitment to that person and leader that requires great sacrifice." She also mentions inflexible thinking, having access to a special level of knowledge, not fundamentally being about the best interest of the individual people so that anyone who poses a threat to the group must be immediately shunned and kicked out. Cults also promotes control. Ammon's group literally fits this definition and characteristics to a T. As you said, he even calls what he does a cult. A pastor running a church can certainly be considered a cult if it fits all of the requirements from above. Of course, all churches are not like this and I’d be more than happy to shun any church that runs their community like a cult. I would respect Hillman's followers more if they just said "Yeah, I know his knowledge of Hebrew is rough - definitely nowhere near the level of his knowledge of Greek - so I'm open to rebuttals of his claims. And even though I see his work as merely satire and love his style/delivery, I can see why people are put-off by the way he presents himself, and suspect he is grooming a cult-following." you know? a little honesty & charity would go a long way. For me, knowing that Hillman's knowledge is deficient (he can't read Hebrew like he does Greek) means he is on equal footing to someone who is deficient in the opposite direction (can't read Greek like they do Hebrew; Kipp) So I couldn't completely trust either side when I first came across the debates. The video that finally convinced me Kipp was right & Hillman wrong, is by a scholar who knows BOTH Greek & Hebrew (Joel Korytko's video, "Response to Ammon Hillman: Was the Old Testament Originally in Greek?") where he gave various examples of the nonsensical Greek translations of Hebrew in the OT. In fact I want Hillman to respond to that video, specifically. I'd like to see him read the EXACT same greek verses from that video and give his english translations, and try to explain the nonsense away to his followers with a straight face. Gen 19:29 "The cities in which lot dwelled in them..." Numbers 13:32 "The land that they explored it .... The land that we went through in it" Lev 17:3 "A man a man of the sons of Israel..." Exodus 21:12 "...and he dies, by death let him be put to death." So yeah, Hillman is wrong & the debate is over, imo. 🤷‍♀ I think his followers are getting onboard with the Stockton Rush of religious scholarship, and I'm glad everyone else in this content sphere is sounding the alarm about him.

I think you really do believe that the only reason people are talking about this is to try and cover up what you believe is the truth that has been revealed by Ammon. But that is not the case. People are genuinely concerned about Ammon being a dangerous sexual predator. It does relate to his interpretations of scripture, because all his interpretations make scripture about very disturbing sexual abuse. Which he then for some reason wants everyone to act out. So it’s not about people trying to cover up some hidden truth. It’s about thinking that he is dangerous.

It seems to me the underlying issue here is the need to have, present and uphold an identity. The entire story of Lucifer is to show that what "you" think is right and wrong is the issue itself. Not what someone else does but the very issue of all life being validated by the suffering of another. You have to decide how you want people to suffer you. Lucifer wanted all the others to say he was right and I see that example followed again and again. You are a Child of GOD. Simply put that means that you have the ability to believe something or not believe something and based on that you make choices. Boom. That simple. Just remember that you have no choice but to believe what you're certain of. So just be sure you dont get a stiff neck or something. Much Love.

For some reason, I cannot reply to @WhatYourPastorDidntTellYou. It's more like Hillman reads text, then says to the audience (YT listeners) "we are in the cult". The text he reads describe unusual events that are hard to make sense of in our modern world. He puts himself and the audience inside the story as if in the present tense. It has to do with the type of teaching/story-telling technique he uses. In any case, as a lifelong Californian who loves her Netflix miniseries shows about actual cults...I think I have a pretty good understanding of what a cult is. Hillman is not extracting money, property or labor from people, something actual cults do. Kicking people out of a virtual community can, I understand, make people feel badly, but were they actually harmed? Aside from hurt feelings? Thats a stretch. I have known people who have been kicked out of actual churches (not merely virtual) who they donated actual money to...isn't this more egregious? Excommunication is a thing...in many religions by many names for many reasons.

@willmosse3684 5 күн бұрын
There are various different elements that are indicators of a cult or cult like activity. Extracting wealth is just one of them. If he’s checking a lot of the other boxes, which he is, then it’s a cult like group.
@WhatYourPastorDidntTellYou
@WhatYourPastorDidntTellYou 5 күн бұрын
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. You might have lots of experience with cults. I’m not discounting that. With that being said, having a lot of experience with cults is very different than actually being an expert on the topic. Experts define what makes a cult a specific way for a reason and “extracting money, property, or labor” is not exhaustive enough as there’s a lot of other things that cult leaders can get out of their followers. Regarding kicking people out of cults, the problem is not simply that they kick them out, it’s a lot more complicated than that. One problem is the atmosphere that it creates when people know that they have to fit in line or they will be kicked out. When cults expel members for disagreeing with their teachings or leadership, the psychological harm can be profound. These groups often foster an intense sense of belonging, so being ostracized leads to isolation, rejection, and the loss of social identity, especially if members have already severed ties with their previous networks. Expulsion is frequently framed as a punishment, creating fear and emotional manipulation that suppress dissent and damage self-esteem. The abrupt loss of community amplifies cognitive dissonance, guilt, and confusion, while the dependency cultivated by the group leaves expelled members vulnerable and without support. Additionally, cults often stigmatize former members as traitors, further alienating them and causing fear of retaliation or judgment. The experience mirrors emotional abuse, leading to potential post-traumatic stress, intrusive thoughts, and difficulties in forming healthy relationships, leaving former members struggling to rebuild their lives. A lot more can be said. I’ll be having a cult expert on soon.

First, cults don't just appear out of nowhere instantaneously, they develop as a central figure attracts an increasing number of followers and exerts more influence over them. The central figure has "special knowledge" and access to the supernatural. His cult is at an early stage, and mostly online at this point; but we also don't know everything happening in private among his inner circle. In order to grow and be more successful, a cult leader needs to identify certain followers to be both uncritically devoted to them, as well as competent enough to delegate influence to. I believe that is the stage he is at, and why some individuals are being "purged" as he calls it. He certainly has devout followers that provide labor through online reputation management. They parrot his catchphrases as though it gives them some divine authority. He overlays "Initiate Apocalypse" on his livestreams. Apocalypse and cults often go hand in hand. Many cults believe they have a special role to play at the end of the world. There is also a certain type of online cult known as "satanic accelerationism" which fits perfectly with his ideology. Finally, the whole thing he is obsessed with promoting is cultic rituals.

@@Fakejord thanks for sharing. It seems you are not the only person to say this so I will explain the reasoning again. Ammon runs a cult which means people are making themselves vulnerable. It’s important for people to know who Ammon is if they are going to make themselves vulnerable to him. Otherwise, they might not know the risks of making themselves accessible to him. Your comment would be the equivalent of commenting on a news report of OJ Simpson and saying that people shouldn’t make videos about his murder case because they should only argue about how good of an athlete he was. Sure, the court case doesn’t make OJ a bad athlete but does it really matter if there is a threat to other people’s lives? Do you see how those are analogous? Also, ad hominem is when you say “your argument is wrong because of X (insert insult here)” but that’s not what anyone has ever said.

@joebloggs5436 fair enough, let me clarify. There are many different ways “ad hominem” is used. If you are referring to the phrase as a fallacy, then my definition is how it is used. If you are defining it as something like “attacking someone’s character and it doesn’t have to do with an argument” as you have described, then yes, that’s how it is used but then it’s not very significant. If that’s all the original commenter was saying, then I misread them. With that being said, if that’s all they were saying, then it isn’t very meaningful since there isn’t something inherently wrong with pointing out character flaws rather than critiquing an argument. 99% of the time, in my experience, people use the word “ad hominem” to try and say that someone is logically wrong by not addressing the arguments. It seems that is the context of the original comment so that is why I responded by pointing out that we never claimed that Ammon is wrong because of his lack of trustworthiness, boundaries, etc.

Ad hominem is all people go to when they or their god is caught with their pants down. Making personal accusations is useless. What he says makes too much sense to be refuted by just here say. Being creepy is one thing and being a liar is another. You have not uncovered anything unusual to be honest. I expected it to be something like this. A scholar should be judged on his work and not on his acts. many of the scientists who have contributed great things were lecherous. And what Ammon did was not even close to that. And if the arguments is just that someone's argument should be ignored because of their acts, I think Christians should just burn all their books. The way you narrate the context of the video shows your lack of life experience. Expecially your lack of knowledge of adult behavior within a working environment. Or other. You should learn to get a full understanding of any topic or area of life, prior to giving your opinions. Otherwise ,youre spreading misinformation. Or , not studied information.

@WhatYourPastorDidntTellYou wouldn't say necessarily that it's misinformation. I would Say, it might come across as a biased or unfounded opinion. Based on your current belief or understanding. Now, I'm not saying your opinion isn't valid or important. What I am saying is, when you're young, we tend to have a group mentality. Common opinions of the masses. As you age, you kind of figure out a lot of that isn't what you really believe as an individual. Yes you'll be safe giving give answers. But one day you'll look back at It and think about it. That's why I say study all sides. You must dive into the details before giving blunt opinions. As you get older, you will behave differently and have a different understanding of human behavior. It's the same thing as if you look back 10years ago and how your opinions were then. Remember the people you speaking about have lived on earth for thousands of days longer than you. You must take yourself to that place 1st.

I think this is just a load of crap. Sounds like you have an inferiority complex and trying your best to discredit Dr Hillman, poorly presented, if that was your goal. @@WhatYourPastorDidntTellYou Did you delete your other reply saying you'd welcome Dr Hillman to discuss your thoughts as expressed by you here? If that is the case, have you requested him to do so? If so, and if he declined, I wouldn't blame him. Perhaps your lack of life experience is yet to teach you that often people who have high IQ's can be quite eccentric, this is no reason to 'twist' events you were not present to witness. You read the Court document and then give your opinion on what it 'might' mean. Everything you say on your video is your interpretation of what happened, not fact. For what purpose would you do that if not to discredit the man on purpose? I thought your speculation said more about you, than him.

Ammon Hillman thinks he understands Greek, but you can't just pick up a Greek lexicon and translate the words into a meaningful English phrase without understanding the language. He and his fans couldn't tell if he is doing a good job because most of them have no idea about Greek culture and language. How he interprets 'neaniskos' shows this; to a 50 year old man a 20-30 year old is a youngster/young man.

You are so wrong.. The word Neaniskos is the literal translation of young boy.. The ikos is the diminutive if the word neanias is used than yes it would mean 20 plus year old. Do you want me to show the texts? Or the etymology of the word Neaniskos? As for the understanding of Greek when he speaks it is easy. νεᾱνῐ́ᾱς (neāníās) +‎ -ῐ́σκος (-ískos)
@brawndohaswhatplantscrave
@brawndohaswhatplantscrave 6 күн бұрын
@@Illuminationheliios Ikos is not the diminutive. Ιt is a suffix used to form adjectives of or pertaining to a noun, in the manner of etc. It is in the masculine. For example, when describing a male from France (Γάλλος - noun)j, the suffix ικός is added to make the word Γαλλικός. So the word Νεάνικος is simply suggesting a young-ish male. The word for child is not used. So from the perspective of the writer, he could easily be 20 years old. As for how he speaks Greek, how can you tell if it is any good? Do you speak Greek yourself? Can you read it?
@Illuminationheliios

@@brawndohaswhatplantscrave the root word νέος means "young" and combined with the diminutive/endearing suffix -ισκος it could mean very young, or a child.

@@Illuminationheliios It is not diminutive or endearing, it is a descriptive suffix. They had a word for child already and it was not used. The writer would have used it if what Ammon is asserting was actually taking place. Do you speak and read Greek?
