Mr. Kartje seems like a nice fellow (albeit, one who feels no compunctions making statements that put people's - like coaches, for instance - livelihoods at risk frequently). He is overall a good writer (a tough job), although often at odds with the English Language. In Kartje's latest story on Jayden Maiva, he falls prey to the modern sportswriting tendency to glom on to narratives automatically, parroting Bill Plaschke's clumsy assertion that two of Maiava's completed passes "bounced off helmets." Technically, that is true. But the TD ball to Hudson bounced off of HUDSON first, THEN riccocheted off the DB's Helmet (back to Hudson, who bobbled it further before securing it). To simply say it bounced off a helmet implies plainly that it hit the helmet FIRST (i.e., a poor or wild throw). Apparently expecting a deflection by the DB - if not an interception - Hudson was caught unawares as the ball threaded through the DB's hands to hit Hudson right in the numbers: not only was it Not an errant pass ("bounced off a helmet"), it was a Perfect Strike (by the grace of God, perhaps - but perfect nonetheless). If, instead of a DB's helmet, the ball had bounced up into the goal post off Hudson's chest, Kartje, presumably, would simply report: "Maiava threw a pass that hit the goal post." Yes, it makes for punchy writing to say sensational things like "bounced two passes off helmets." But sensationalized punchiness, in sportswriting, does not trump Accuracy. Thus, the accounts of the game rendered by both Kartje and Plaschke (one of the worst titles for an 80s buddy-cop show) were Failures - conveying to the reader a false picture of events.

If Garbers plays like he did last year we win! If he plays like he did last week, we lose 🤷 Go Bruins!

Call me crazy, but it seems like UCLA has better players (at least the starters).

To say that Garbers had one of his best games last year is laughable. SC gifted their offense 3 drives starting in their own plus territory and he threw for 155 yards...

He played as good as Garber, but he was in his first game where Garber is in his second year.

On paper USC should be the favorite by a TD however USC has dramatically found ways to snatch defeat from victory in one score games 0-4 in true road games. USC should also hide their O linemen Mason Murphy in a locker with extra duct tape until the game is over

Garbers has no offensive line. He has looked like a rag doll out there. And Lincoln Riley's job is on the line after having a winning season last year. The powerful USC alumni doesn't put up with this crap.
