Just so you know, in Japan high school is 3 years long. When they refer to "first years," which Hinata and Kageyama (and Tsukishima and Yamaguchi) are, it means that they're in their first year of high school. About the offending anime just don’t call it a cartoon because that can get on some people’s nerves. Also while this anime can be very detailed and realistic most of the time it’s still an anime. There will be flashbacks, slow motion, a lot of dialogue, thinking about entire plays and making decisions in the span of 0.5 seconds, and an attack that probably would not be allowed in real life volleyball. As long as you understand that and just go along with it you’ll probably have a really good anime experience.
@victoriagarrickbrowne4 жыл бұрын

does anyone actually still get offended by the whole cartoon shit? Anime is so mainstream now, you'd think not. Plus I don't recall any allowed play that wasn't called in the entire anime. Keeping in mind its a series and it gonna have dramatization its actually good advice especially to someone that's just now starting on anime.
@bibeans4 жыл бұрын
@@brunolopes2205 I know some people who do argue that cartoons are different than anime. So I just thought it would be best to just avoid any unwanted online arguments in the comment section by warning her about it. I didn’t really understand what you meant about the “allowed play that wasn’t called” but I meant that when they improve their quick attack in season two, it probably would be called a double hit because of the spin on the set. But then again there are some gray areas with how the refs could call it. So it could be argued that an attack like that would not be realistic in actual volleyball. I just thought that this would be good advice to give her to make the viewing experience more enjoyable for both her and the viewers.

id say most people that watch haikyuu have a sense of whats realistically doable or not cause volleyball isn't actually that complex in ruling or plays and then there is the fact that people have common sense. I don't think anyone hates her but calling out everything just kinda kills the mood. The fact that she keeps calling those unrealistic bits out has nothing to do with her volleyball experience (especially cause haikyuu doesn't approach anything in such a complex manner that only an experienced player would understand) and more to do with her still not being used to the way anime worksin general.

Yeah, the voice acting competition and the directors are extremely hard there. They take it very serious and that’s why the voice acting is always really good compared to other countries. Just so we are clear here, Hinata has no experience in volleyball. He had no team to play with growing up in junior and these are his first serious steps into the sport. Even though he has incredible reflexes and speed, he still needs to learn a lot.

Hi! Okay so when you were talking how Hinata could just do a tip, line, straight, etc,etc he does learn those later on. I think that’s a big part of the show. Yes he does have three years of experience, but most of it was by himself so he doesn’t have many experiences and diversity with spiking like you commented on. Sorry ya I just wanted to let you know hope it helps!
@camoumilecamoflage88754 жыл бұрын
correct. Hinata is quite honestly still a "noob" at this point in the story relative to most of the other characters. He is just innately athletic which is why he is a natural. This is also why Kageyama was all "what have you been doing for the last three years?!" since Kageyama recognizes the insane natural talent but disappointed by the lack of technique.

You should totally watch the dub! It’s even funnier! For example, when Tanaka said he “Totally isn’t scared of Daichi” the dub said “that would be ridiculously, ridiculous!”

Hey Victoria, I have been a recent fan of yours for a while and I have been loving everything you post. Thanks for all the positive things about body on TikTok! Thanks for being inspiring and a great role model!

@@victoriagarrickbrowne I actually don't mind it - it's more in line with other react videos and it takes the pressure off you to try and say something insightful about every single scene (when there often isn't anything). Plus we've all seen it before anyway, so we don't need to watch the whole episode ;) Also I'd definitely try to get onto the sub before the big tournament later in the season - they made some weird translation choices in the dub.

You are valid to call out the unrealisticness of sports anime: - The monologuing - The long talks in between plays - Hinata sprinting across the court and evening changing direction on a dime - The way they animated it to make it look like Kageyama is literally doubling every set (you'll see) But this is all part of the experience. Think of it as an epic retelling of their journeys as young volleyball playerssss lol

HAHA IM EARLY BY 8 MINUTES JDNWFIHFJENX Oh yeah here is a little list of the names of the characters in the episodes that you’ve seen but don’t know the names of. - Silver hair dude- Sugawara aka Suga. He is a setter and is vice captain. - Brown hair dude: Daichi. He is the captain. I think he is some sort of hitter as well - Dark green hair dude: Yamaguchi aka Yams. He is a pinch server. - Black hair dude that never gets screen time: Ennoshita. He is a wing spiker - Other somewhat bald dude who also doesn’t get screentime: Narita. He is a middle blocker. -Light brown hair dude who ALSO doesn’t get any screen time: Kinoshita. He is a wing spiker. -Navy blue haired girl: Kiyoko. She is the team manager. Also no, there isn’t any romance in the show except for everyone simping for Kiyoko. Lol

oh actually to specify something, Japanese high school and middle school is only 3 years, their elementary school goes up to 6th grade (so middle school ends at 9th and high school starts at 10th). So in American terms the third years are actually seniors and hinata and kageyama are sophomores

It's not a problem to watch the dub! The main protagonists and antagonists have great voices and it's definitely a good experience too, especially when this is your first anime and you're not really used to watching them. The only problem the dub truly has is that there's no dub for the fourth and latest season as of right now, and we have no idea when will it happen or if it'll even happen. Overall though, if it's more enjoyable to watch the dub for you then do it that way, your experience is more important than which one is more accurate and all of that! Also, those clips you showed from your team's games were great and gives a lot of insight for people like us who don't know much about the actual sport. Also also, your dog is too adorable!!

That is so awesome it confirms things I've heard before but didn't quite understand because my brother is bad at explaining things even though he was good at volleyball. First two steps done when the ball touches the setters hands. If I had watched Haikyuu or if it existed when I was in college I would have grilled my friends on the volleyball team about this kind of stuff. But now I get you ask you these all important questions 🙂

Well the thing about sport anime is to make people intrested in the sport. So there are some "super natural" moments in them too. It's also to bring more effect to the show. And them talking between the points, is just a normal thing to explain for the viewer that has no clue on whats really going on. And yes, it's okey to talk about what's real and what's not.
