I just bought a 6.7" bowie to conceal on my back, and after studying a few real-world knife fights I learned right away - reach is everything. I wish I bought even bigger. I really really really hope my firearm would get the job done, but it seems we should prepare for plan B. There's something seriously psychological about knife fighting, what an unsettling scenario.

The only knife I would feel comfortable using is a bowie. Anything else doesn't have the size to keep someone off you. After years of boxing, wrestling, and good old street fighting I would rather use my hands than a 3 inch knife. But that's why I carry two guns, if one gets knocked out my hands or jams I have a New York reload ready to go.

since my comment was erased I'm going to say it again. the first two moves make sense. in the last one the person who is performing the action of a left handed person is actually in right hand stance and in actual situation the rear leg would be the opposite leg to the one shown here. and it would be on the opposite side. and that would make it farther away than shown here and attacking it would be more difficult at less you had a longer weapon and even then it would not be an ideal strategy. on the other hand attacking opponents lead leg when you are facing him is more reasonable target because you have an easy access to it (easier infect than if both opponents would be in same stance) however this would be effective when you are facing your opponent. if you ware behind him at the position shown here then even if it would be on the side that is close to you it would be too much forward at less opponent in square stance. despite what everyone says the part of pushing the arm of the opponent into himself to keep him off balance I actually think that this is a good idea if you deliver the two cuts shown here first (although I'm not a martial artist and I never was in a knife fight so what do I know but to me this part makes sense) but the finish needs to be different.

Excellent video and really good to see knife defense instruction being shown. I have always carry knives for last ditch / get off me defense. Just like your pistol, you need to have where you can get it out FAST and only if you are Close enough to not miss . You must learn moves and how to handle it properly. @Tony Miami Most civilians in general aren't getting into fights despite the high urban crime statistics. Moot point. And you assume that you're more trained than the cops. You're also assuming that due to training , you're going to win a knife fight when, in fact, you're also getting cut up. Your ego is clouding your judgment. The pistol is a better self-defense tool for the majority of people, easier to train, and offers faster incapacitating capabilities.

Speed is essential for response, but he did not say which type of knife. The folder, automatic, or fixed blade knifes? Fixed blade knifes is the fastest and you can set-up a draw holster whereas folders and automatics are clipped then you have to not only draw but engage the release mechanism to present the blade... Reach is also a factor from your attacker including the type of edge weapon he/she is using from normal sized blades to daggers, bowies, fixed long blades like bayonets or combat knives, short blade Kanata, machete, axes or tomahawk etc.?! He demonstrated that you respond after a move was made as you are looking for openings to make your cuts and pokes - is the best approach and also learn to parry; unlike sword play but the use of arm bracers or even modern Kevlar resistant hand & arm sleeves against edge weapons. Forearm bracers whether made of thick leather to metal type bracers had their purpose in ancient time to protect your arms and used to parry against edge and sometimes blunt force attacks... something to think about if one is just carrying your EDC defense knife?

When has anyone ever won a free gun? You don't show it? It seems like bs. I do not need a free Glock. I can buy my own, not that I ever would. If you are talking about an FN, CZ, Kimber, or even a Sig... ok, show me who wins. But the ongoing "gun give away" statements means nothing and annoys the heck out of me. Stop! We watch for content, not junk/fake giveaways.

I would like to see the USCCA start using real videos from surveillance cameras as a lead in for defensive tactics. We speak extensively to LEO and corrections on what they experience, and these moves have not been mentioned. As an example, Corrections tells us they see stabs in the back, while LEO tells us they see quick jab like stabs from the front. Perhaps using real video would shed light on real defense.

Still healthy except for orthopedic and soft tissue injuries.

Hell0 ,) do not use any technique from KZbin for self defense!,, knife vs knife -it’s always 50\50 . I would never swing my arm with knife . You don’t need a big swing to cut the steak 🥩 right . .? Just wrist and knife moving .. you’ll not be able to see that and react to the motion . You can survive in knife attack only if you run fast or if you shoot fast .

Why cut the attacker's shoulders and triceps? This is the typical instructor mindset that says we as victims should never use vio lence against a person who is trying to ki ll us. That only criminals have a monopoly on vio lence and we should be kind to look nice to the "committee". A committee that will review your actions over lattes and in an air-conditioned room. It is similar to the sports fighting mentality that has rules, referees, and time limits. We are so afraid of critique that we learn soft techniques. The difference is the attacker has a different mentality and he has no qualms about ki ll ing you. Therefor, the best defense here is to push your kn ife into the attacker's neck or as deep as you can into the attacker's brain via the eye socket. The hardest thing for you should be is choosing which eye.

In order for the attacker to effectively utilize a contact weapon (knife, bottle, pipe, stick, etc.) they need to have the muscles of the forearm and bicep intact. By cutting the forearm or bicep you limit the ability of the attacker to use the weapon. Individuals have been stabbed multiple times in the chest and stomach but continue to fight for minutes. Make a significant cut to the forearm, bicep or quadricep and you immediately limit the attackers ability to continue using a contact weapon.
