I returned to this tutorial after some time (=after trying and failing without help) and I just have to say that you, Sir, have a gift. Just enough detail and exact information for my taste. Again, thank you so much for time and effort on these tutos! Also have say that your paid courses are way undervalued, meaning very affordable, at least in my humble opinion. Great value there for anyone wanting to actually learn, say Fusion, instead of just getting some node combinations without true knowledge. Great job, once more, thanks!

At last a clear and clever explanation of the difference between a bumpmap and proper 3d displacement. Thanks for that!

how to use the displacement 3d for the 3d text? if you place it after the replacement tool it all crashes and does not work. 3d text however, works fine with the bump map. So how to use the displacement for the text?
@VFXstudy4 жыл бұрын
Interesting, never tried. You say it always crashes when you use it with replace3d together? That's probably a bug then...

I wonder how, in general, the possibilities to create textures/materials in Fusion compare to other 3D programs like C4D. I once saw a tutorial in which someone explained how to create a photorealistic earth in Cinema 4D. The most interesting part, from my point of view, was the possibility to have the texture change based on the direction the light came from, so that e.g. the night light from the cities only showed on the dark side. And it looked rather easy to set up in C4D. Is something like that also possible in Fusion?
@VFXstudy5 жыл бұрын
I think it should be possible. You can also create multiple materials and merge them etc. Maybe one which is effected by the light (sun) and one not (night) have to try some time...

Fusion doesn't have a built in shader like C4D but this could be done in several ways like with masks, or even particles, or more advanced using custom vertex or custom tool [Cu].

Is it possible to apply the bump map on a video instead of an image? I have a kind of an aerial video where the scene moves forward slowly, and I would like to slightly increase the 3D effect on the ground. I did try several ways without any success?
@VFXstudy4 жыл бұрын
Well the bumpmap is part of the material, but materials can in principle change over time. So if you attach a video Instead of an image as a texture to a material I don't see why it shouldn't work. Same if you had an animated bumpmap...

I have seen tutorials on how to use bump maps to create a raindrops-on-the-camera effect in Aftereffects. Do you think the same thing would be possible in Fusion?
@VFXstudy5 жыл бұрын
You mean bumpmap on an image plane where the footage is attached? I think it should work. But wondering if it's much better compared to let's say a 2d blur and displacement, etc. perhaps. Sounds like a fun thing to try out...

Is it possible to use more detailed models in Fusion other than the House model you demonstrate with? Can you make a video using more detailed 3D models with textures?
@VFXstudy5 жыл бұрын
Sure... but typically I rely on things that are available in CC0 so I can provide it in the download where needed. But planning on something more involved for one of thext weeks.

Hi! theres any way to mask a bumpmap?
@VFXstudy3 жыл бұрын
Hmm if the bump map tool doesn't allow it, you could probably manipulate the input image. merge over constant bg with a mask?
