I often throw some split red lentils in my tomato sauce and pretty much anything that is red-ish that needs thickening: they just dissolve into the sauce and thicken it with no effort.
@LongLeg1995 Жыл бұрын

Pink sauce always has a slightly creamier and velvety mouthfeel and I love the idea of using beans to achieve that! Monica's idea to try this with a curry is also fantastic - especially for those who cannot use coconut milk!

I like to include chickpeas and potatoes in my curry sauce. As they cook, they break apart slightly and merge with the sauce. Makes it very hearty!

good for you! I've been doing that in my cooking with butter beans and cannellini beans. Also, something my mom used to make when I was a kid (like 60 yrs ago) was what she called barbecue lima (butter) beans. Basically it was drained lima beans with her favourite bought BBQ sauce diluted with broth (but you could just use water). Lots of pepper and it was one of my favourite things.

Thanks for the idea. I prefer this style of vegetarian cooking to that fussing around imitating meat. This dish is simple, nutritious and delicious.

Looks really lovely. Cannellini beans might create a less chalky texture than butter beans? There's a certain dryness to butter beans.
@maigallop Жыл бұрын
I think if you would have cooked up some dried butter beans instead of canned it may have been less chalky in texture. To me canned beans are more dry and less creamy.

What a great idea! For the texture, maybe processing the ingredients more slowly would help? instead of processing all the beans at once and then the water, maybe putting some water and a few beans, process, add some more beans and process again, etc. I did something similar for a tofu cheese made with yogurt and got great results.

Absolutely making this, thank you. Love the grated lupini beans. Forgiving you for not soaking the pasta but I think that would add to the silkiness of the sauce. I wonder if removing the skins from the beans would help? They're always falling off canned beans anyway and skinning garbanzos makes a smooth hummus.

First I adore your and Monica’s channel and congratulations on the weight loss. Two suggestions, first you don’t need oil as you can sauté with vegetable stock or even water you have to keep a close eye but I do this now because I was influenced by The Whole Food Plant Based Cooking Show. Second I sometimes use pasta made from beans, usually chick pea based. I don’t always as I use beans a lot but just a couple of ideas ❤

It's been a long time (over a decade) since I last made a dairy ricotta sauce, but even then I remember a 'texture', and frankly it wasn't bad! Just more rustic. So I am totally down with plant based improvements on animal based recipes. Animal based was the past, plant based is the future.

I'm about to start a health kick using intermittent fasting and exercise. Something I'm finding difficulty with when it comes to macros is protein, as in getting as much as my body weight demands. This is such a great idea, as even though I do love beans, I think I would most likely get bored of them after a while. No reason why I couldn't incorporate this idea into other dishes, such as borlotti beans in a gravy or cannellini beans in a pasta sauce. Great idea, thank you 😀
