Hi Tamara. I'm new to your channel. I'm 71 years old. I live alone. I make meals so I do have leftovers. I grew up eating leftovers and actually many things taste better the next day. I have a seal-a-meal that I use if there are more leftovers after a few days. I also buy in bulk so I use the seal-a-meal to break things down to how I'm going to make them. I have noticed that I save quite a bit of money by buying bulk. I live on my Social Security retirement check. I don't budget, but I sometimes buy only what I've used out of my pantry and freezer. I have been so blessed that I actually have 2 freezers. One is a 21 cubic foot upright and the other is a 5.5 cubic foot chest freezer.

I also do shopping at the Amish stores. I have 2 Amish stores within 5 mins of my house, which is very nice. The bulk food store is about 30 mins away.

Sure wish we had those type stores in my area. We do have a bulk food store but it's about an hour away. Love that you cook so much at home. I try to do a lot more of that anymore. I never knew the better flours made such a huge difference.

Hey Tamara! I agree with Winston drinks taste better from a glass bottle 😀. I wish we had a Amish store here where I live now,we had 1 near a town I grew up in and yes ma'am the sweets are scrumptious 😋. I'm not afraid of eating leftovers either,it's hard cooking for 2-3 people and not have leftovers. Before I got married I would take 1 day and do some meal prep for the freezer. Hope you sharing the meal or recipe that your making at your mom's. ❤Nancy

Tamera your style of grocery "budget" is how I do for our household and I too shop for ingredients and shop for what I need, I use the notepad app on my phone to keep a running groceries/nongroceries list and when I'm already out running errands I look at my list and pick up any items I find on sale or have digital coupons clipped to my rewards card for my local store

We have a few almish groceries and one started as almish then a cashier there bought it and still has almish working there. Anyway there are ding and dent and bulk foods, but there is one here that has soup base that I absolutely loooove, but I haven't found it carried anywhere else. So I will purposely go out to that store for a few bags of the soup base and I use it to add veg to things like rice with chicken stock or with chicken sock and soup base to boil potatoes to make potatoe soup. Girl the fact you keep back ups of back ups is why I love you .. if you don't have milk there is something else you can make it with.. I keep Evaporated and condensed milk ... powdered milk has gone up so much!

I’m with you on some things you can’t cook small amounts. Mac and cheese, chili, soups, and stews just to name a few. My problem is I don’t like leftovers. I get food fatigue very easily. I bet on a monthly basis we rarely repeat any meals. I sure wish we had an Amish store. We had them in Ohio and loved them!

I use out of date canned goods. They are vacuumed sealed. It's the same as if I canned them myself and put them in a pantry. I lived on an acreage where I canned many things By the time we ate some of it, it was 2 years old. It was just as good as the most recently canned item.
