Good evening Susan. I been watching your video on relaxing your muscles and your inner space and filling yourself up and sending your SONG to another being. Your tutorial as always make the invisible, visible to those of us that practice Tai Chi as part of our lives. May I make one comment to answer one of your followers. The first lesson your taught of any self defense is learning the art of relaxing knowing your surroundings and mostly knowing yourself. If you can relax when being under attack ( giving yourself time to think and ward off the agreeser)you instinctively become the stronger person and it unbalances the other. Once again thank you for your informative videos. Diolch yn fawr. Julie 🙏💞

Susan, it is a very excellent demonstration of song.and very convincing too...Thank you...

Thank you. I think the convincing part is the most challenging part to convey via video. This is a subtle art and a subtle demonstration. I am glad that it came across successfully. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Brilliant as always! Which makes me wonder: Is a song state essential for chi to flow? So without song, no chi? And what I would also like to know, after years of practice, do you have this song state in your everyday life or do you have to create it each time?
@InternalTaiChi2 ай бұрын
Song is an important quality, although I have had many students who feel Qi running through their body even though they have not learned or acquired the quality of Song. I think Tai Chi can naturally bring us to Song to some degree. However, once we achieve higher degrees of Song, the Qi can flow more easily rather than being stuck or pooled in one area. And yes, ultimately we want to achieve Song in everyday life. It influences the way we think, the way the world responds to us, and the way we move or navigate through challenges in life. First, Song....then respond. It will change you. :-)

How do you do song? Yes, I have relaxed myself when I am doing my standing meditation. But how do your ensure that myself have achieved the state of song? Thank you Internai Tai Chi

That is the challenge with Song. Until you partner with someone and get that feedback loop to verify you are in song, it is hard to identify within yourself when practicing solo. I recommend you practice with a cooperative partner and do what is demonstrated in this video. Once you have success easily moving the partner, memorize the sensation. Then bring that sensation into your solo practice. You'll eventually get into Song more tangibly and quickly. I even practice with my dog! We play tug of war, and I go into song. When I am in song he ends up just letting go. By the way, I love the picture of your dog in your avatar. He looks a lot like mine!

Nice video! But at one point you say "I´m not using muscle". Please explain, how a human movement ist possible without using muscle!?
@InternalTaiChi4 ай бұрын
I am a therapist so I agree, it is hard to understand. Maybe a better articulation would be to not use the obvious muscles. Release the external muscles, like the biceps, deltoids, triceps, pecs, lats, etc. This then taps into the fascia and the fascia is much stronger structure. The deeper muscles closer to the bone then make the movement and are more hidden, subtle and more effective. That is my best guess. All I know is when my students (who have their moments of doubt too) place their hands on me, my muscles go soft and they are bewildered. Admittedly......I am too. The softer I am, the more results I get. Tai Chi is completely counter intuitive.

Yes but when someone grabs you in the street you're not going to have time to sing them a song....

Obviously no. The purpose of this demo is not for fighting or defending against a thug. But this allows you to experience the flow of free energy from within to another body.

Lol....so true. This exercise is to add lightness and relaxed force to your Tai Chi practice. However, if you do begin to cultivate this skill you can be more aware of your surroundings and perhaps make preemptive responses to avoid such situations. When in the state of Song we perceive more and can take in more of our environment, perhaps successfully implementing the ”20 foot" rule more successfully (see my video on that topic). Anyway the intent of this video is not to use this for fighting off. Rather using a partner as a feedback loop so you know when you are truly in Song. Then you can bring that feeling into your solo Tai Chi practice. Then your Tai Chi will feel wonderful and bring you to a state of true open, relaxed and effortless movement. This unlocks many of the true treasures of Tai Chi!
