I took Skyview’s entire trading course. I learned a ton and went live with my account back in the fall but I didn’t do so well. The stock market is crazy volatile right now and even the safest condors I put on with the highest probability were putting me in the red. I don’t know what I was doing wrong but every time I’d make a trade some kind of news would happen and worst case scenario just kept happening over and over again. I’m a little weary to start back up with these strategies again.

I have to say, I love your videos! Concise, clear and to the point. You really seem to know how the options trade works. Although, I was always wondering, what's the motivation behind doing/selling training videos, when you're presumably already making a lot of money with the know-how you are teaching? The trading lessons revenue must be peanuts to you.

Thank you! And great question, there are a few reasons - Building a business around our trading lessons does allow us to have an additional income stream (you can never have too many!), but it also allows us to give back to the economy by providing our customers with a solution to their problems, as well as creating and providing jobs for our employees (designers, developers, support reps, etc.). Just to clarify, entry price means current stock price - value of selling the call. So the benefit of this is that if the stock stays the same or drops a bit you still made a bit. Seems like a big limitation + still a high capital requirement for the slightly reduced risk? Does the platform handle the transfer of your stocks if the purchaser of your call exercises it?

How would i use this strategy on Tesla today. I need someone to walk me through this
@heylookitsherbie4 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasbolduc3110 It's a trading strategy that you use on stocks that you already own. You can only use this strategy if you own 100 shares of Tesla, or about $43,425 worth (as of this moment, and say your cost basis was $40,000 or $400/share), then go to the bid/ask spread that your broker uses. Look at all the different options you have and determine a time frame that you are comfortable with. Say you choose October 2, 2020, choose the lowest price you do NOT think the stock will go over. For argument's sake, let's say you do not think the stock will go past $460/share before 10/2/20. choose that one as long as the price is good, let's say it's $39.00, you multiply that number by 100 shares, and once the trade is executed, you have that money deposited in your account. As long as the stock does not go past $460/share, nothing happens. If it goes over $460/share by 10/2/20, you have to sell. As the author said, it's a great way to reduce your cost basis, because now your it is lowered by $39/share to $361/share. I hope this helps.

Your videos are so easy to follow. I literally am learning how options work through your video. Keep it up! In the scenario at the end where you loose from the trade I'm a bit confused. When you write a call contract the person that bought it has the option to buy at the strike price. In this scenario the price of the stock went really low so it won't be excercised. Unless you are forced to sell the stock at the really low price, woudn't you just keep the profit from selling the short call? Please excuse my lack of experience.
@alfriendly58552 жыл бұрын
yes i agree with you. i dont know why on the video it is explained that if price goes below your strike price that you will have a loss, because your position is covered by the shares that you own . You would just keep your shares, since covered call is not exercised and you keep the premium you received. Video seems to suggest that you would book a loss on the shares that you own, but you can hold on to them for a potential rebound in price. Sorry to see you did not get a response . i noticed that positive comments above and below did get a response. Hopefully this reply will get a response to confirm or clarify my understanding.

Hello, Excellent tutorial! If the call option hits the strike price prior to its expiration does it automatically sell? Ty.
@leonid53093 жыл бұрын
The option contract will not exercise or be worthless until it’s expiration date. Exercise meaning buy 100 shares of that company with your cash. If it’s a Buy Open Call then if it goes above your strike price, the more profit you make. You must make the decision of when to sell your contract before it expires, but in short no it will not automatically sell as you still have potential gains to be made or potential losses.

Some people switch back and forth between the two--sell a put until you own the stock, sell a covered call until you no longer do, sell a put, and so on. I have no idea how good an idea this is, though. If you own the stock anyway, is selling a call against it better than buying a put? Building a collar? I am hoping to find out.

Hi! Adam, great insightful videos and simplification in presentation. Thanks. Couple of question/comment: Where is the link to the Mentoring process you noted in one of the videos? Is that at your link above? Secondly, as an example to this 'Covered Call' video with one's own stock; how would one play this scenario to mitigate loss of dip in a Tesla stock currently (suppose you want to get out of that position and not take loss (breakeven or a minute upside, if possible). Say one has 5 or 10 Tesla stocks bought at high 800s (say bought at 860, now it is down today at 670 (lowest for today I think). Suppose one just want to liquidate position without losing money - how would/could using the Long Position Stock with the 'Short Call' work, to come out break even (what might a 'Call Sell' be for that scenario -$190?). Suppose I need to come out of that Tesla position and use the funds for other possibilities. I understand, this is not a financial advise. Perhaps you can illustrate a real life example using real numbers of the $860 owned and $670 current lowest price today in February. How would you play such as example. Thanks

What i dont understand is if the stock doesnt hit the strike price you sold ... it will not be exercice ? - will you still have to sell the stocks that you own ? Or you can keep it and redo ? Like if you bout 100 stocks for 65$ , make a covered call of with hit price at 75$ , the stock reach 70$ at end of 30days ... will you have to sell to 70$ ?? Or can you just keep the premium of 2$ and the stocks ? And just redo?

When you sell covered calls and it expires is it true you don't have to close order it just expires if below your strike?
@RaceCarRobbie2 жыл бұрын
So, essentially you're selling a contract which gives someone the right to purchase 100 shares of X company, that you already own, at a price that you determined IF it hits that strike price? So, for example, if the $100/stock rises to $200/ the next day, the person buying the contract can ride out the contract for the remainder of the option and still purchase your stock at $100/ regardless of the end price? (As long as it's at, or over, strike price)?

@mistersandy3 жыл бұрын
Depending on the stock, it may be more than a month before you can sell another option with any premium. Example Campbell Soup just tanked on earning from 49.50 to 45.60. At the moment there are no good options to sell at or above $49.50, unless you go out very far on the expiration date. I sold my first option in the 49 range and now have to wait it out or cost average to the 47 range to get any premium. I never lose money, just make less money on some trades.

The only thing I don’t understand is if you have long stock and it dips down in the covered call scenario you didn’t necessarily lose any money if you were planning to hold anyways? So I understand that the value goes down but it just seems that the loss created as part of this scenario is separate from the actual transaction. If you had to get rid of the stock at the expiration then sure, but that’s not the case you’re not forced to sell if it doesn’t hit its strike price
