I am new to options, and have been trying it using Robinhood. I am wondering why you prefer thinkorswim? Despite the cost that could add up pretty fast if you increase the volume. Do you have any recommendations regarding platforms in 2024? Thank you

As an investor who loves US stock options, I must say this uSMART promotion is amazing! Zero commissions, no minimum order fees, support for trading index options products (SPX, VIX, NDX, DJX, OEX, and XSP), and multiple strategies supported (put options, covered call strategies, vertical spread strategies) - it's truly a trading platform tailored just for me!

Maybe I'm missing something but it appears 1/2 of this strategy is selling a naked call, which I understand is a great way to get wrecked if you get assigned. Especially if it's a high price stock/etf.
@skyviewtrading
@skyviewtrading 28 күн бұрын
Hello! Selling naked strangles and/or naked puts and calls can certainly sound scary on paper. However, short strangles are probably the number one strategy that successful option sellers use. You can get "wrecked" in many ways while interacting with markets, while someone else using the same strategy is successful. It's more than just what strategy you are using. Entry guidelines and management mechanics are where edge is added or taken away. Hopefully that helps!

Great video thanks! So if i understand well if the stock is close to $85 you can just protect your your call option by buying 100 stock? Ideally at $85 or less and therefore you lock your profit from the short put and neutralize the loss of your short call?
@theman6910
@theman6910 Ай бұрын
One thing people need to realize is when sell calls. As long as your strike price is above your cost basis your, "loss" is actually "potential loss" because you are actually making profit based on selling above your cost basis... This is why the wheel strategy is a thing.
@skyviewtrading
@skyviewtrading Ай бұрын
Hello! Yes, I think what you are referring to is an "unrealized loss." The loss is technically just a short term loss so long as the stock trades below the call strike. As expiration approaches that short term loss will grow smaller and eventually turn into a winner thanks to time decay. Thanks for the comment!
@tanshan7163

you can do it, but you have to be really disciplined and know how a stock will run with a particular news. example, during a bear market a phase one topline news for a drug will run premarket up a dollar or two. depending on if the DOW is up or down that day will dictate how the stock will run for the rest of the day during regular hours. if it's up, hold and sell around 11: 30. if its down. wait for the dip and buy around 11:30. always wait 10 to 20 mintues after the market opens before you buy just to be safe. if the support levels are increasing, buy.

Do you have a video which demonstrates adjusting either side of the IC, to address movement of the stock which threatens to breach either side of the IC strategy? @8:42 - 8:45 when you say "probability of ITM at 13%" aren't you clicking on an OTM Call at the $260 strike price? What am I missing?
@skyviewtrading
@skyviewtrading Ай бұрын
Hello! We have more advanced videos that go over our specific adjustment mechanics for members on our website. And yes, we were clicking on the 260 call strike which was OTM. The column we referenced was the Prob ITM column. That is the probability that the strike expires ITM. That was 13%. We could have also shown the Prob OTM column also, which would have shown 87%. Hopefully that makes sense!

@skyviewtrading
@skyviewtrading Ай бұрын
Hello! We're not familiar with UK options. We like the US markets because they are the most liquid. We have many members that are not US residents though. Interactive Brokers seems to the most popular broker our members use to trade the US markets from overseas. Hopefully that helps!

Quick question, you said @10:25 that you made $1200 minus the premium of $500. Will you have to actually buy 100 shares of the stock in order to get the profit of 700 when you exercise the call option?
@skyviewtrading
@skyviewtrading Ай бұрын
Hello! Yes, in this example we assumed we exercised the call option and actually bought the shares of stock. At that point we would have $700 more in our account due to the net gains of this trade. If you did not want to hold the shares of stock you could also just close the call option. It would be trading for around $12 like we mentioned. So if we bought it at $5 and sold it at $12 we would make $7 on the option, which is $700 per contract. I hope that makes sense!

Hi, I'm new here, I was wondering if there was a fourth parameter that influences the option price, that is market sentiment? So for two call options with the same Intrinsic value, time to expiration and volatility, one in a bullish market would be worth more that one in a bear market, does this make sense?
@skyviewtrading
@skyviewtrading Ай бұрын
Hello! I understand your question, but no, there is not a market sentiment metric that is calculated in the "black Scholes formula" to determine an option's price. Delta, gamma, theta, vega, and rho are the 5 Greeks that help derive an option's price. Hopefully that helps!

If the stock is 60$ and I do a put for 55, why is the break even 54.69? Why would it not be 55$???
@skyviewtrading
@skyviewtrading Ай бұрын
Hey! If you are selling the 55 strike put the break-even price would be the strike price minus the credit received. So if you sold the 55 put for $0.31, the break-even is calculated as 55 - 0.31 = 54.69. The credit collected gives you a little extra cushion. Hopefully that makes sense!

Best videos so far in explaining options. However, when discussing changes in Greeks value you keep referring to "point" changes but don't you mean "dollar" changes? There is a difference from a change in point vs. a change in dollar? You seem to go back and forth with these descriptions.
@skyviewtrading
@skyviewtrading Ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for the kind words and for watching! As for your question, the terms "point" and "dollar" are the same in this case. You will hear people use them interchangeably when chatting about the option market. Hopefully that makes sense!
