Use the CURRENT to CATCH DEEP RIVER CHANNEL CRAPPIE.

In this video we use our Electronics to find the deep schools of crappie along the river channel. We then use LIVESCOPE to pinpoint their location and use the current to carry our baits through the school to catch them.

I fish a tidal river with heavy current. I’m trying to locate crappie in deeper water but Iv been looking for Eddys around structure where I thought they would be. Are these crappie staying right in the current?I had the mindset that they wanted to be out of the current. Thanks and I’m subbing

Yes they will school in the current. They use the structure to help break the current and take advantage of feeding opportunities. On some lakes I've seen current affect the crappie bite in a negative way. On this Lake which is a River System (Tennesse River), the current almost always helps the bite. The current is created by generators at the dam and is turned on at off. Your thinking is pretty much right on from my experience too. It changes from one body of water to the next sometimes. @@GordonPettieFishing thanks for the quick response. I only have a basic depth finder. Iv been trying to avoid spending a pile of money on electronics,but maybe I need to look at something to be able to scan the sides of the river like you are doing. And also I’d like to have the maps to be able to find those points.

@@Eric_Cleckler Side imaging is a very important tool. I spend a lot of time idling around and looking for schools of crappie. It pays off and eliminates a lot of water. You can find them with basic 2d sonar but you will have to cover the water more thoroughly. Check out my latest crappie video and I show you what I do to find them in the Summer along the creek channels.
