So I use clean water to start , scrub gently and use cotton tip swabs to clean the crud, then lemon oil to moisturize. And finally lizard spit polish to bring the shine. I’ve also been intrigued by some of the new ceramic car polish’s that give a super slick feel to poly finish’s 🤘🏽also makes the helmet shine and sparkle under stage or starlight 🤘🏽 ( a mirror shine finish also reflects most laser blaster fire) pew pew

For a roasted maple fingerboard does Dunlop .65 Lemon oil work or do you recommend buying Dr. Ducks/Fret Board Juice?
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses3 жыл бұрын
It depends. If you don't want the roasted maple to become even darker, then stick to the Fretboard Juice. If you don't mind it, you can use those "yellow-ish" oils like the Dunlop 65 lemon oil or a natural oil, like the Sandberg oil (link is in the description box). Cheers //Kris

Thanks for the beautiful video. One question I have, maybe sounds a little bit stupid but, anyway... How can be washed the microvibes or cotton after use? In the wash-machine it will get some wool flakes or probably something else strange let's say. And with the hand, I don't know, maybe with the soap for the dishes? How do you do?

Hi..quick question..I've just cleaned my telecaster maple fingerboard with the F-1 nomad oil so can I now use the dunlop lemon oil to finish it off with..??!!
@GuitarNTabs4 жыл бұрын
Hi Robbie. If the maple fretboad is lacquered, there's no point in giving it any oil. Cleaning it with a damp cloth is all it really needs. The F-One Oil is perfectly capable of restoring unfinished fretboards, like Rosewood, etc. Merry Christmas 🎄

Thank you so much for this video! Another best tips video ever on this topic! I was looking for cleaning matte finish guitar and lot of other videos were just talking how good their products are and whatever but turns out I should do is just use a little bit of water then it's good to go! Thanks again!

Thanks a lot! Just don't put a lot of water on it. :) And if it's not enough, try a tiny bit of soap in the water. Really just a touch. And of course be sure not to drip it on metal parts or unfinished wood (fretboard, etc). Cheers! //Kris

I used fingernail polish remover to get the paint off my guitar. It went through the clear coat and the original color, but theres a thick coat of something opaque that lets you see the wood but not ideally and the remover doesnt make a mark on it. I guess its primer? I was going for a gloss natural finish but should I remove the primer first?
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses4 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes, the thickest part of most poly finishes is the primer / base coat. It's super hard and, as told, very thick too. Try a sanding machine and be careful not to sand off the wood underneath. :) //cheers, Kris

A friend of mine swears by wiping down his strings and fingerboard with baby oil (oil FOR babies, obviously, not _FROM_ babies 😋) after each playing session, and that certainly keeps the strings from rusting. I am using lemon oil in the same way (but I forget it half of the time... still works nicely).

I haven't cleaned my Martin acoustic guitar (or my les paul and my gibson 339 electric guitars) in a long time and a lot of oil from my naked skin has built up where me strumming arm rests. What about cleaning tapewounds bass strings? I clean them once or twice a month with a Dunlop string conditioner.
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses4 жыл бұрын
Hmm that's a great question. You mean the nylon wound metal core strings, right? If your cleaner helps, stick to it. These strings are a bit too special to have a specific cleaner for them. At least not that I know of, sorry. //cheers, Kris

Hey, if you don't want to use any cleaners on satin guitars, then yes, make a simple cloth moist (microfiber is gonna be great) and go over the finished areas to clean it. This is a subtle cleaning method but definitely finish friendly. Cheers //Kris

Hmm, now I am questioning my cleaning on my Ibanez. I have an AS53 in tobacco. I have always used spray guitar cleaner on it when I change the strings. Now I am wondering if I should be using a wax on it. Zero information on if it is an oil or satin poly. I have contacted Ibanez for the answer. Do you guy at Thomann know the answer?
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses4 жыл бұрын
Hey David, that's a matt finish, right? Don't use polish or polishing wax if you don't want it to become glossy. Stick to a standard cleaner or the Taylor satin cleaner or even just a moist towel. The yellow thomann cleaning cloth is linked in the description box for example but you can also use any other microfibre cloth. //cheers, Kris

what'll happen to my guitar's satin finish if I use guitar polish on it?
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses2 жыл бұрын
It will become more and more glossy. Guitar polishes work the same way as car polishes: they are supposed to make satin / matt parts of a finish shiny. If you don't want that, use simply water or a satin cleaner. Cheers //Kris

Maple neck and Amaranth fretboard. (which has a purple like hue) Satin finish. Do you know what fretboard cleaning method will have what effect on amaranth? And it's a bolt-on maple neck. Would you clean the neck with just a microfiber cloth like the body? Is the neck satin too? Or different because it's a bolt-on?
