breathing seems to be my biggest obstacle - watched a lot of vids, tried different ratios, tried to relax, but it seems like 100-200 yds is my max before losing breath and needing to stop for a breath. I'm amazed to see other swimmers swim for a mile without needing to stop.

For me its like 25 - 50m but I still keep practicing and hoping to overcome this either by making lung capicity bigger or by having a pattern. Out of curiosity did you manage to increase your distance a year later?
@wetgiraffeexperiences23812 жыл бұрын
Try doing sets of 25 intervals at distance pace past you perceived max distance. Once you see you can go longer with short breaks between each 25, you'll know you can go constantly for that distance or longer. This is what I did to break my mental block of going past 125m.

Can you please do more videos about correct breathing for long distance swims? Maybe follow along exercises for various paces? Thanks a million for all your videos!

I practice breathing every 10/6/4 (alternating sides). This helps me to economize air and find ways to relax. I can breathe much better doing every 2 and 3 later. I do the same for breaststroke as well, breathing every 5/4/3/2. I can now breaststroke about 100m nonstop. Before I had to rest to catch my breath after every 20m.

I'm a newer swimmer, just learned to swim last year at age 48 at a local lap pool. Over a period of nine months I have worked up to 1500 yards per session, with 150 yards nonstop and then stopping for breath between sets. For the longest time I couldn't get past 50 yards at a time between rests. But in the last month suddenly I have improved dramatically. it is getting easier, but I had a major set back last week. For some reason all of a sudden, about twenty laps in, I felt suddenly off, like I could not keep my body position correct and could not keep legs from sinking. It came out of nowhere and I had trouble not panicking which made it worse. I could barely do 50 yards and had to keep stopping. I have not experienced this before and now I am having anxiety about getting back in the pool today. Why did this happen? I theorize maybe my expectations were too high and I pushed myself too hard? Or lost my focus? I did a little open water swimming Sunday at a local lake to test myself but i only swam twenty minutes as it was too cold and windy. It seemed ok though. Is it normal to have off days? That day I was off I took a break and did some backstrokes which seemed fine, it was just the front crawl I suddenly struggled with.

I have this too, anytime I try to increase my max distance without stopping I think my brain gets involved and tells my body “we can’t do this man…stop” 😂

I’m a new swimmer and I can only go 25 m without getting tired and I feel like I can never do 100 m because of how tired I get and how I panic is there any tips for me?
@lucasmcmonigal96944 жыл бұрын
Just be sure when you’re doing anything like a 100,200,500 don’t all out sprint right away make sure to have a good build up pace

Is there a link to the breathing class? I have pretty much given up on swimming because i have a panicked need to inhale when i fully exhale.

Hi, Brenton, over the last months i developed nasal hyperreactivity after my swimming sessions. The nose is running for hours, in the same time it also feels stuffed. The doctor didn’t find anything unnormal and just recommended to avoid the stimulus i.e. swimming. Do you or any of your followers have some experience with this and maybe a solution other then giving up the sport?
@9danke4 жыл бұрын
Thomas Bernhardt This issue has come up a bunch in my triathlon group. The answer was often “allergy to chlorine” and the solution was “nose plugs”
@thomasbernhardt89974 жыл бұрын
@@9danke I thought about a nose clip already. It's a hit on breathing out through the nose, although.
