Dan that drill bit idea for the EZ awl is brilliant but I want to add something: bows drill.

Yet another reason to have a full tang
@jamespaul25878 күн бұрын
@kringsja9913 a full tang means the metal extends from the blade to the end of the handle as one piece.
@Ajaxykins8 күн бұрын
Not sure about that, if this was a partial tang a burn-in handle might be even easier and more secure!
@choccolocco6 күн бұрын
@@Ajaxykins Nah, with a full tang you don’t even need to make a handle, it’s pretty much built in.
@BD-ck3ud5 күн бұрын
True, but even a full tang knife - as he demonstrates here - can can get broken handles. Only time it happened to me was with an antler handle on a knife with a rat-tail tang.

A good way to prevent cracked or broken scales and loose screws: Use blue loctite on the screws, and use unbreakable material for scales, like micarta or G10. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!😊👍

On that knife it would look pretty cool to carve those scales into a nice handle with a palm swell, etc. and leave the bark on the high points for extra grip texture.

This is the reason why micarta, G10, and carbon fiber is still a far better choice than wood on outdoor knives. Sure, wood looks great but looks don’t mean anything in such a situation. Micarta is the better option due to weight and price ratio. Carbon fiber is lighter than micarta but very expensive. G10 is stronger but quite heavy, thus micarta is a good compromise. Also, use loveless bolts (fisheye bolts) and a high end marine epoxy to attach them and you’ll never have to be concerned about it. Removable scales suck due to moisture getting behind them and causing rust. You can just marine epoxy them on as well…just be sure to clean the rust beforehand and also smother epoxy on the bolts threads.

Lot of work it would be easier to just cord wrap the full tang handle or saw a comment about Gorilla tape that works to as a emergency field repair.
