This is a Tutorial on how to adjust the settings on a Verizon branded smartphone, to work on a T-Mobile Network, with a T-Mobile SIM card at LTE / 4G speeds. Remember Verizon's SIM slot is UNLOCKED, so I'll show you the correct settings under Mobile Networks for Network mode and Access Point names APN, MMSC, APN Type etc).
This will allow you to buy a cheaper second hand Verizon phone and add it to your T-Mobile plan. It's also safer that way, because if you buy a T-Mobile device , there is the risk of the seller reporting it lost or stolen, not paying his bill etc, and thus rendering it unusable.
We are showing it on a Samsung Galaxy S6, but the process is similar to all smartphones.

@@isabelcatherinemorris3309 probably solved if my question was answered as well. It has to do with the number your phone has stored as data number to be used to send info to carrier. It affects usage of hotspot and also ability to send texts. I use metro pcs on a Verizon phone that may or may not be unlocked but regardless will work with metro besides these functions from what I can tell. My next adventure may be to learn to Jail Break to try and add a more Metro friendly like T Mobil OS to the phone if possible.

It's really more complicated than this vid shows. For starters, the APN info should automatically set when you insert the new sim-card, making what's shown in this video useless. Where you run into problems is that phone manufacturers make phones specifically for Verizon. The Samsung S6 you get from Verizon is literally a different model number (G920V) than the one you get from t-mobile (G920T). It has different internal hardware. Namely, the mobile radio responsible for connecting to cell towers. Verizon towers primarily use LTE bands 4 & 13. T-Mobile towers primarily use LTE bands 4 & 12. The Verizon branded S6 doesn't support LTE band 12 and the rest of the frequencies that T-mobile uses. It only accepts LTE band 4. Even though you might get service with a Verizon S6 on T-Mobile, the service is limited in relation to a T-Mobile branded S6 which can take advantage of all of the LTE bandwidths that T-Mobile offers. Hack, root, install different roms, etc. It doesn't matter. The bottleneck is in the hardware, not the software.

Taylor Fox It's because Verizon phones don't support all of the bands T-Mobile uses. So if you're in a area that is using bands your phone doesn't support it will either be extremely slow or just not work at all sadly :(

Thanks for the video! Think I will just buy an iPhone 7 instead. With Android you need to go through so many steps and it's really difficult to remove bloat ware. With iPhone it's just: Pop in the sim Enable imessage and FaceTime The phone will do all the settings automatically Ready to go.

as long as the iPhone is either unlocked or paid in full! If it is locked by Verizon, then you have the exact same problem (and solution). This is not an Android vs iOS thing, it's about carrier related settings.

Thanks for the tutorial. I just got a Verizon Note 5 and trying to use it on T-Mobile. Everything else seems to be working fine EXCEPT sending picture messages. I've input the APN settings like you have shown and able to receive picture messages but whenever I try to send a picture it just keeping saying sending. Then, every now and then I would see a pop-up message of network unavailable. Pretty sure it's relating to the picture MMS not being able to go through. Do you or anyone in here have any idea why or how to fix this? Thanks again.

I have an unlocked Verizon phone I use on Straight Talk (Verizon line). I signed up for Qlink (please spare me the bad time) and I asked BOTH Qlink and ST if I activated QL SIM card but decided to stay with ST would the ST SIM card still work. BOTH companies said yes. Well my dumbass didn't know (nor was I told) it would change my Verizon Android settings to T-mobile Android settings along with the start up screen and jingle. So I inserted the old ST SIM back into my phone. It prompted a restart but still booted up as T-Mobile. It takes almost 2 minutes for my service to kick in. I have ST hotspot and am now constantly being disconnected or lagging. My phone officially says it's not roaming but the signal bars have a triangular roaming signal plus where it use to say Verizon it now says "preferred system". I factory reset my phone thinking it might do the trick but apparently not. I have talked to both Qlink and Straight Talk. Q link Told me I have to get ahold of Straight Talk and they have to switch my settings... So I contacted Straight Talk and I'm not even sure any of these people on either side understood what I explained to them but Straight Talk basically told me I need to buy another bring your own phone Verizon kit so it will activate my phone...even though they say it's already activated. I've done some research online and from what I found Samsung puts all of the big Carrier software on the phone and whatever SIM you're using basically sets the phone up for that Carrier. But it did not do this when I put my old Straight Talk SIM card back in. Is am I out of luck or is there any way to fix this? I'm hoping that I think that a new SIM card from Straight Talk will fix it but I'm assuming it won't because it will probably just be the same type of SIM card. I cannot afford to go buy a whole another phone right now and I really don't want to be on a Straight Talk T-Mobile line because I'm not sure it will do as good as the Verizon line I had.

Followed the instructions on this video and both 4g LTE and the mobile signal worked for a few seconds, I made a phone call, did a sample google search etc. then went back down. I ran into a similar issue a few times - On a few different phones - Using MetroPCS. [T-Mobile towers] I had a Galaxy S7 Edge [GSM, AT&T, Unlocked] running perfect on AT&T & Straight Talk, then the service/sim was swapped over to MetroPCS. For the first billing cycle [a few weeks] everything worked perfectly. Then, anytime I made or received a call, the 4G-LTE would immediately stop, drop to "4G", and if I attempted any data related multitasking [text, internet, fb, etc] Nothing would work. The same went for my hot-spot. Witch previously, I could be on the phone - talking, turn on the hot-spot, connect my laptop to the phone, and use the phone and/or laptop to do internet related multitasking.. Anyways, countless trips to the local store and countless calls to tech support couldn't fix anything.. Restarts, over the air reprogramming, factory soft/hard resets, new SIM card, etc.. Very Frustrating.. In the end - I just had to downgrade my phone to be able to continue using my service - For the time being.. I'm sure that there IS a working walk-around / fix for all of this. The issue is, no matter what, different stores, providers, techs, etc. just want people to keep 'upgrading', and despite how "helpful" they appear / pretend to be - that's just how it is. I think we're on our own sadly.. *Again, this was all using a GSM unlocked phone with GSM service/sims - That should work 100% *Not even trying to use a CDMA unlocked phone with GSM service/sim - like this video was about..

I entered all of the information just as you put on the screen. I clicked "save" but my access point page is still blank!! Why??
