I had my first car in UK for 2.5 years now. First year was 808, second year was 880 and third was 1.5k. After I called them and asked to cancel auto renewal before it goes through, they lowered it to 920 because this is what competition could offer. I still pay more and more despite almost 15k miles covered without a claim during that time but at least it's not 1.5k It's what they do - hope you won't bother to shop around. Not saying you didn't - sometimes it indeed don't work

@@pawel7196 For me the group 5 (small car, 75bhp) is ~£180 where as the group 17 (family car, 140bhp) is ~£400. Im 52 missus is 51.....we have never claimed on our car insurance. The cheeky chunts are asking 675 quid to renew the insurance on our 08 plate Golf which only cost us 950 to purchase a year ago. I've told them to foxtrot oscar. I've sorned it and put a 500 quid 1.25 fiesta on the road. Even that cost us 320 to insure as a new customer. It's not your cheaper cars that are the problems. It's that you might crash into a newer, more expensive modern car and your insurance company will be on the hook to cover any and all damages. Given a continuing shortage of spare parts, the expense of rental vehicles and increasing labour costs, insurance companies are more likely than ever to write-off a vehicle, despite sustaining just minor damage. These is why auto insurance has increased substantially over the past few years.

Insurance is what's killing me. I've recently been involved in a head on to no fault of my own. Dash cam proof from myself, dash cam proof provided by a Biffa rubbish truck, 5 or so witnesses and even a full police report stating the other driver was at fault. Yet with all this evidence the other party are still trying to claim 50/50 if not try pin the entire thing on me. My insurance has more or less doubled since this, I've lost 6 out of my 10 years no claims.. for what? no fault of my own. I just find it stupid how someone can fight a situation like this with all this evidence against the other party. Been going on for the last 8 months now. Was insanely stressful finding a car down South West area that wasn't a total rip off or near death. This alone has made me want to just give up driving all together.

The lag effect of interest rate rises over the last year or so is only maybe now beginning to be felt in the wider economy and this trade, dealing with expensive items, is beginning to feel the chill. The caravan and motor caravan trade have been really hammered, with some big dealers going out of business. The uncertainty of a new Labour government doesn't help either. I'm old now and was in the trade for 30yrs and well remember the savage recession of the early 1980's, with 1981 being really grim. At that time franchised dealers were sending brand new unregistered cars to auction to be sold for whatever they could get for them, and our dealership sales dropped by 60 - 70 %., with many people losing their jobs.I certainly hope we're not heading down that path again.

The alternative is you buy an old car, fix it up yourself, if you have the skills, equipment and interest to do it. This car pitch has such skinny margins that I can easily see them losing money after all costs. What it definitely isn’t is profiteering. That’s why Lee needs a dozen plus sales, month in, month out, to cover all costs and make a modest profit over the course of a year. Most people will make much more take home by being employed by someone else, but some of us cannot bear being an employee. I read that 70% of all cars on the road now are leased. Bearing that in mind, my mate has a pitch. He's 61 like me, been doing it all his life. His friend (not a dealer /mechanic) has worked all his life and has to have a hip replacement. His wife suggested he should apply for disability allowance as he will be off work for 6 months. They were also advised to apply for a disabled car allowance as someone else in the family can chauffeur him around during this period. His son, who is 21 and just passed his test can go on the insurance. They have just leased a brand new Skoda, with both of them on the insurance, for £71 per month. THAT'S LESS THAN £900 PER YEAR FOR A BRAND NEW CAR AND A DRIVER WHO IS 21 WITH NO PRIOR HISTORY. The insurance companies and car manufacturers are stitching everybody up, just like the mobile companies did, so that in Klaus Schwab's (WEF) words by 2030, 'YOU WILL OWN NOTHING AND BE HAPPY'.

I would love to get a brand new car for only £71 per month including insurance for 2 drivers, but I think you will find its a lot more than that 😢. Currently Mobility vehicles cost a minimum of £75.75 per week which works out to £3,939 per year or £11,819 for the 3 year mobility vehicle lease term. You get nothing when you hand it back. If anyone knows where I can lease a brand new car from including insurance for 2 drivers for £71 per month then please let me and everyone else know 😊

If he's been granted DLA he will be using the Motorbility scheme, which means his weekly grant covers the cost of a new lease car, not any car, the ones with lower spec that don't need an upfront payment. This includes road tax and insurance for him and a named driver, and it will now be around £71 per week, not monthly, and you certainly won't be paying for insurance, it's included.

All cars 1.0 except the Mazda. Value of car between £1000-£2500. Just to give you a comparison, same Mazda 3 cost £1600 for the same profile driver, but 2 years ago. If you don't get new/young drivers, you'll get less drivers in the future. Insurance companies and manufacturer/parts suppliers are colluding to kill the golden goose.

Li, it's obvious you're rattled by the lack of sales. I can't offer any kind words or encouragement but can only compare to my time in the trade 40ish years ago. the 6 week run before the new registration used to be really quiet (August, once a year back then). our small garage was quite diverse doing MOTs, repairs, bodywork, a handful of cars for sale and running a fleet of 9 taxis. other than drinking gallons of Lilt and Tango in the heat, in this is period we used to overhaul engines and gearboxes for stock, give the site a lick of paint and spruce up the signeage, fix the 'do it tomorrow jobs', fix or scrap the dead sales stock, overhaul the f--k-ng car wash again, weigh-in the scrap and jump on any business that came through the door. once the new registration came out the whole industry lept back into action like dogs on heat.

The country is in a mess because of the Govt overreacting in 2020-2022 and frittering money away. During the pandemic, I knew companies (various trades) were fraudulently claiming furlough but still working cash in hand knowing the Govt would never investigate. These people were coining it in with free income from the taxpayer. It's an open secret that all Govt contracts/initiatives have a financial "tolerance" built into them. E.g. Green Energy scheme c.2014 - many contractors weren't completing the work (lagging, cavity wall insulation) but still claiming the costs from the Govt. Govt/civil service can't monitor that so they accept abuse of the system and write off the cost. Not enough staff to investigate each historical case.

I have owned my current car for just over 5 years now, i was going to change it this year, i purchased the car with some savings, a trade in and a bank loan, my bank loan was £160 per month which was at a good interest rate and i borrowed about 9k, i went to look at a replacement for my 2015 volvo v60 with a 4 year newer model but when i did the math it didn't really work out, it was now 20k for the car with identical mileage (100k) with only 3.5k offered for mine, higher road fund (mine is £35 per year) and higher insurance group and now the spare £160 that i had for a bank loan has now been absorbed by the hike in gas and electric. my car has had full service before and during my ownership so i've decided i will keep it until it fails, then i will look for the cheapest possible. if other people are in a similar boat i can see why no one is buying cars. also there are alot of electric car schemes being offered so cash strapped families are going that way.
