I’m in Alaska, I worked at lexus toyota, for the most part some of the problems you described are noticeable, The water pumps go out early between 85,000 to 120,000 miles. With that you should also change out both idlers , they too will fail , you’ll notice a slight wobble or a bad one. Don’t really see the sun roof drainage problems here, haven’t seen any yet with wheel bearings going out but none have 200,000 miles. The other comparisons I would use is highlander and fav 4 , sienna, since they are similar,,,, the oil cooler hose originally installed from pump should have already been changed out was huge recall on that, the rear line I’ll have to look into we haven’t changed any of those , no electrical problems. Tpms sensors are now going out on tires. If over 10 yrs. we have had to change out some neutral safety switches from corrosion. Hope this helps out.

@@chip9832 Absolutely. I have the same 400h 08, and maintenance of CVT and rear electric motor should be. Approximately 6.8 liters of original Toyota WS Fluid need for change in the CVT + Rear motor. You right, that in manual no any note regarding it, but it is not true.

@@chip9832 do u notice any problems I would not recommend a full flush since it’s gone without one. At 160,000 miles I would do a drain and refill there’s a lot of reasons why I wouldn’t recommend a full flush. If your not having a noticeable issues only suggest drain refill but there’s a certain method of changing fluid.

Just some info for viewers. I own a 2007 rx400h with 125,000. Only issues Ive had are seized footbrake cables £100 from Lexus and a broken rear driveshaft, where I got a 2nd hand off eBay for £60. It's extremely reliable, and effortlessly quick and smooth. Apart from normal tyre wear and brake discs and pads this is a cheap car to maintain. In 4 years of ownership I've probably spent maximum £1000 including labour on maintenance. This has included new tyres, front/ rear discs and pads, timing belt replacement, oil change, filter, handbrake cable. GreT car to own and no significant issues
@Moshe_Dayan443 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that info. A 2006-2009 RX 400h is my next vehicle. I just got spoiled by my 1998 Lexus ES300. Bought that car in 2005 used, and drove it until 2014, when I sold it for $1,200 to my mechanic so he could fix some rust starting in the rear wheel wells, and sell it again to a guy who, last I saw, was STILL driving it around.

Spot on review there! Many of the common problems are covered. Spoken from experience here. My dad’s RX300 closing in on 400,000km and still runs like a champ. Hardly anything ever goes wrong except for cracked dashboard which was replaced for free by the dealer and replaced the amplifier for free as well. Apart from that, it is your wear and tear parts.

Good video, as an owner of RX400h I would add rear brake calipers getting jammed as hybrids often use the engine for braking and over time they rear brakes may get that problem. It then costs over 300 euros per caliper plus the new pads.

Just bought a 2007 with 186,000 miles in June. I insisted that a big oil leak would have to be fixed or I would pass on the vehicle. The leak turned out to be from behind the timing chain cover. The engine had to be dropped from the vehicle to do the repair. i had them replace the water pump and chain while they had the engine out. the oil cooler lines were leaking, too. Definitely take a close look at the passenger side of the engine for signs of oil leaking from that timing chain cover.

I just bought a 2006 and sadly I got it home and found oil leaks on the driveway. Turns out in needs 5000 for repairs. The dealer told me that I can trade it for another car on their lot after I stomped my feet. I'm already attached to this car. They have a 2013 crv available but the ride is so different. The car needs a high pressure power steering hose.. 930 dollars and rear struts and a driver's side wheel bearing and a few more things. Part of me just wants to pay for the repairs. It's such a nice drive.

I had a 2004 RX330. Sadly I had to get rid of it due to that horrible, unresponsive (at times) transmission that would shudder and jolt. Really bummed me out because I loved the car tons, but that transmission was borderline a safety issue. I even took it to the dealership to have a TSB applied to the ECM in hopes it would relieve the issue... Nope, nothing. So yeah, had to part ways with it. I recently picked up a 2008 RX400h, the last year of the hybrid. I love it. It's much quicker, very responsive and smooth acceleration, and pretty damn good MPG. Some people hate CVTs... But I personally love them because they are so smooth. Definitely worth the upgrade.

The engine never ran hot ever and after changing to the upgraded water pump , it has run flawlessly . My wife mainly drives the car and we plan to give it to our 14 year old in 4 years time as a very nice, safe, reliable 1st car .Time will tell if it comes close to my 1999 GS 300 with 549,000 kms :)

I bought a 2005 RX330 from the original owner a year ago with about 88k miles. It's in almost perfect condition with the optional 18" wheels and towing package, which includes a heavy duty radiator and a transmission oil cooler. It does suffer the dashboard cracking which I hardly notice now but it does bother me when I do notice it. The other issue is that the power lift gate will not open reliably. It closes reliably though ; ) I can't tell if it has the under body panel rattling or if the suspension needs to be replaced. I wish it had AWD and bluetooth and I wish it got better gas mileage, but I love the luxury feel and comfort. It has most modern features except automatic cruise control or any intelligent safety features like lane assist. As far as maintenance costs, a Lexus dealer charged me abut $1000 for the 90k mile service which includes replacing the timing belt. They charged me an additional $600 to replace the water pump at the same time. They did not replace the idler pulleys, which they said looked fine and would have charged me an additional $600 at that time. I have driven about 12k miles since then and I think they need to be replaced now as I'm hearing some chirping occasionally on startup now. I very much regret paying them so much money when my local mechanic would have charged me less than a thousand dollars for all that including the pulleys! Other than that I have spent $75 every 5K miles for an oil and filter change plus tire rotation. I'm very happy to have seen this video today as tomorrow I'm getting a NY state inspection and I'm going to ask the mechanic to check for many of these issues so THANK YOU! Oh yeah, almost forgot, I am mostly used to the jerky transmission now, just have to go easy on the gas pedal... I don't think it's the transmission oil because that was changed at 60k or 90k miles.

Oil leaks are common in that mileage range. I have 2002 Honda CRV with 135,000 mi. And mechanics have told me it’s normal and ok. Won’t hurt anything as long as it’s not coming down to ground where visible oil stain is seen, thus using a lg amount of oil that needs the oil to be replaced. Hi, I have the 2006 RX400h with 137K miles. Only recent (2003) major problem for me was the battery inverter water pump went out which might leave you stranded. Shortly before this, big system alarm came on the dashboard. Had to have car towed to shop. Cost was 700$US. At this point I'm letting the car tell me what I need to repair rather than throwing money on big preventive maintenance items, because I am thinking of replacing it, but it has been a very good car. I was quoted recently $2,000$US for timing belt, engine water pump, and spark plugs. If I do this work, car should be good to go. Thanks.

An independent mechanic should cost less than $1000USD. My local mechanic that I trust quoted me $850 USD two years ago for timing belt, water pump, and idler pulleys. I had already decided to take it to the dealer, which charged me $1600 USD and did not replace the idler pulleys! They wanted an additional $600 USD for that.

on the hybrid models look for the ABS actuator, if its making noise constantly that means its on its last legs and expensive to fix,
@mr.jonniewalker60323 жыл бұрын
So, not at all )) Exactly, ABS hydraulic actuator do this shitty sounds when you shift gearbox from P to D, and the main reason why it happen - it's a very rare replacement of the hydraulic fluid, and finally it becomes in corrosion inside valves of this actuator. Exactly, OEM brand new actuator is very expensive, but you can buy an absolutely the same actuator (the difference between the blocks is only in their mount to the body, but the original RX mount can be rearranged to a new block and mount like genuine. In all other respects - they are 100% identical). Please check for the 44510-30250 OEM actuator. It's use on Hybrid toyota Crown and Estima (For JDM market), and you can buy used actuator from Japan. It will be help and fix any further problem with ABS Actuator and save your money.

Had this car 4 years in the UK. Paid over the odds at a Lexus dealer because you get a 1 year warranty on the hybrid battery. After a few weeks driving it you will know if battery ok. I bought a car reg in 09, (although officially its 03-08). I always like to buy at the end of a model run, on the assumption they've ironed out the faults by then. Took mine to 110,000 miles before changing belt (money). In the UK they love stealing the CAT on the RX400H - you can buy Cat Guards, but why bother, just wait for the inevitable and then by an aftermarket cat. I know Toyota / Lexus have fixed a Cat price change (750 or 1000), but that will I think be (genuine CAT) again and that will just be stolen. They go for between 150-200, with this and the Avensis Mk1 Cat's being particularly valuable apparently. Now I know the car, I see bargains around @ 5/7k for 08's with all the upgrades (never seen the adaptive cruise control). The ML 11 speaker sound system is amazing. I have had not water ingress, no fogged front lights. Yeah suspension bushes are a consistent advisory on MOT's - but not replaced yet. Nice video OP. 4 things: a) On the 400h - the rear discs hardly doing any breaking so can corrode, also rear callipers can be a beach to get off b) Again on the 400h, under engine cover look at invertor. Look for any (pink I think it is), invertor fluid leaking or any evidence it has in the past - if so investigate or walk away c) The tiny (ordinary battery) under the bonnet (hood for our US brothers), will run down super quick if you leave electrical items on in the car and engine is not 'on'. Also when parked for prolonged periods - buy a $15 USD solar panel that plugs into the OBD port if your leaving the car for more than a week. d) The UK lexus owners club sell a redesigned (that doesn't snap) - £15. Find the guy selling them on ebay (Jim) is is name. Best car I have ever owned.

Very informative thanks. Considering buying an RX350 on a 2006 reg with 120k for £3000. Is it worth it?
@PrashLagisetti3 жыл бұрын
@@anonymous4201 I'm considering the same. Did you go for it? Worth it? Cheers

@@PrashLagisettiI did but the car and it is amazing, however be warned that my RX350 drinks petrol but it’s such a good drive. I prefer petrol engines over diesel. If you buy it you won’t regret it.

Thanks for the tips, you were right about the brake callipers being a mission to remove, I just snapped the bolts on both sides as they had seized up…

The water pump failed after 8 months of owning the car. Lexus want £1800 and private mechanics want £1000 to fix. It’s a 10 hour job and involves lifting the engine to get access.

Thank you very much, have been looking forward to your review of this car. Are you aware of any problems with converting the RX300/330/350 to LPG? Thank you again.
@kokipopi29854 жыл бұрын
Easy conversion. Plenty of these have been done in Lithuania. Have a friend that drives RX350 imported from USA with lpg done. Edit: RX330 is also an easy conversion. I don’t know about rx300

The video you make about a vehicle that's essentially one of the most reliable ever made. You FIND stuff to complain about. Frankly, I'd like to see a 2003-2008 SUV made by ANYBODY that has as few potential issues as this Lexus. Basically, anybody else's vehicle is junkyard material by this age. The fact that you end up having to knit-pick, while admitting that the basic functions of the vehicle (ie. engine, transmission, electrical, body, brake system, etc.) are very high quality, and are generally still working great after all these years is proof enough that these were the best of the best, and are STILL great used vehicles. I've even seen a video of a guy that bought a new Porsche SUV in 2020, and he was IMPRESSED by the driving feel, quality materials, reliability, smoothness and features of a 2006 Lexus RX 350.

How would you compare the ride comfort if we have to choose air/normal suspension? Does it make a big differnce with holes and other bumps? What about body roll?

You forgot to mention the expensive ABS brake actuator module that can fail with improper brakepads replacement on the #RX400h. I learnt the hard way 🇰🇪

I had a rx400h for a year with over 250,000kms and the only annoying thing I ever had was the driver door hinge sagging. I had to disable the automated trunk opening/closing Feature, it was painfully slow.
