I would always ask to see inside the frame before buying. They are notorious for rusting where the battery sits. Same goes for underneath at the front where there's a seam that catches all the crud thrown up by the front wheel. But assuming no rust, they're great scoots.

IMHO the 250 performs about the same as the 300 except for the extra 5mph on top end. My experience is that the 250 is a bit quicker in the useable rev range. I rode one to Croatia for a Vespa Days event. The bit to watch on these is behind the front wheel. Many people don't put a mudguard extender on them and the crud gets flung straight into the seam between the two front panels and onto the main frame.

As a long time biker I have looked at scooters as a run around. What puts me off is that for the same price I could get a mid size bike and keep my Bandit for sunny days.

That’s very true. If i ever got one it would be something cheap like this one. My favourites are £5,000 at least and for that you can get a decent much bigger bike and that’s always put me off.

Not a bad price as these Vespas go , although myself I would offer 1,50O quid in cash to take it off their hands if I was after one . I reckon when the Vesparti say the old ones are the best , they are referring to the old classic paraffin pissers . A 250 lump is more than enough for a small wheeled classic styled scoot ,& if it’s a carburettor job it would be even better as far as I am concerned . The only real down sides I can see is the under seat box can’t take a large full face , & the body’s hide a multitude of corrosion & sins after a few years of U.K. riding conditions . The buyer would probably need to spend a few bob & a weekend tarting it up , to attend a mod or scooter boy gathering , but at the right price it’s deffo worth a punt . 👍
