I have a 2010 with the 2.5 and a 5 speed with around 100k kms. It’s been a great little car for me so far. It developed an occasional grind into gear (3rd in particular), but that was easily remedied by adjusting the cables. A quick, less than a half hour, job that I did myself with very basic tools.

@@mamory3791 I mix it up because they all work but some work with cleaning some components better than others. I NEVER use Seafoam. Each tank usually has STP, Lucas Gum-out or Techron. Usually one of them has a BOGO sale. Every other tank I'll use Marvel. Did my plugs at 100k and they looked great. Very clean. Engine idles and runs like new. I had late 2012 Golf 1.4 tsi 90kw 6 speed since new for 4 years and 100k km. Had clutch replaced at 30k km (factory installation issue) , control arm bushings and other misc suspension stuff. No problem with engine timing chain, however in cold it did sometimes refuse to start all 4 cylinders! When it was -15..-25, just normal North European winter, so I had to restart the car 3-5 times. Bear in mind I had done spark plug replacement according to spec and service did not found any anomalities. However worst part of the car was the super thin basic paintjob, even someone bumping into your door with shopping cart meant that paint was completely gone. Overall not too bad though, I did like that car, but I am never going back to VW products. I am now driving BMW F10, which is certainly not more reliable, but that is also expected from a bigger and more complex car.

I bought the 1.4 TSI 160 hp version. I bought it in July 2024, it was in 217k km and drove it for like half a year now its in 227k. It was imported from it was from Germany I am the 3rd owner (1st in Romania) but maybe it was own by a polish person cus it has a polish servis book. The car is from 2011 5 door hatchback with 6 speed manual. I didn't have any problems with the engine yet it run realy good, does not eat oil. Only mechanical problem is that my clutch slips a bit. BUT THE RUST IS CRAZY. I have on front my front left fender, the front edge mansioned, on the trunk under both rear lights and around tha taht drainage thing on the trunk. AND my rear light connectors have rusted and the pin broke and now i have to buy the inside of a the tail light for fkn 50$. But if it doesn,t rusts its not a vw. I used it with 225/45 r17 wheels with goodyear asymetric 6 tiers and it is sooo good. Its like GTI with those tires I just cant stop smiling when I'm on a hillclimb with it. I recomend buying this car with manual. Now the consumption is realy depends on you cuz I had 5.7l/100km and I also had 11l/100km. So, if the engine is cold you cant go under 9 if its warm if you go nice its 6.5-7 if you go on limit its 8.5-9.5 my average is 8. I use it in both in the city and on the highway as much. The driving experience with this car is very enjoyable. It can be a normal daily but it can go fast to. The supercharger and the turbo has a nice sound toghether. IF you have money and some knowledge of cars this is a perfect entering level for "sport car". I love the car and i plan to keep it for long if the damn timing chain can resist. PRO TIP: if you want to buy any timing chained car before you buy it listen to it on a cold start and if its bad you can hear a bad noise, and if its realy bad the car shakes a little bit on idle. Hope it helps, if you have any questions go for it I love talking about cars.

I have a 2010 golf with a TSI 1.4 petrol engine and 7 gear DSG that has run 175000 km. I knew about the chain problems when buying it. Rust has appeared pretty much exactly where you show it and the DSG gear box had a maintenance before I bought it for the mechatronic specifically. The ACC is leaking and has since I bought it 3,5 years ago. If refilled with coolant it lasts a summer but the coolant leaks out slowly during the autumn/winter. Cost quite a bit to replace so didn't do it. The chain has noises claims the Volkswagen mechanic but a second opinion from a different mechanic showed no issues, at this point at least. The charge for the chain is about 1700 € at Volkswagen here in Sweden. Just bought a brand new car (waiting for delivery) and made sure it wasn't a Volkswagen. In my opinion they are living off a generally good reputation, which they no longer deserve. My new car is a Mercedes E 220 d estate, model 2021. By the way I know I'll be robbed at the mechanics shop once the car gets older, mercedes likes to charge premium for their original service.

I bought one of the 1.6 tdi variants from 2011 in february with full service history. Checked everything I could, everything was okay for a few weeks. It's september now and august has been the first month the f**king thing didn't had to be taken to the local mechanic. We had to cancel 2 holidays because the car decided to f*ck us. Last time the clutch cylinder went out (after 150 000 kms). Just for comparison I had a cheap ford fiesta a few years ago, the same clutch cylinder gave out after 300 000 kms and did so gracefully, so I had time to take it to the mechanic. Well not the golf, so holiday trip cancelled. Had it fixed, now it's losing coolant.. sometimes. Then it's fine again. What's wrong with it? Apart from me having bought it, only the Lord knows. When it drives, it's great, comfortable, speedy, economical. Problem is, it's over-engineered to a ridiculous level and it's full of plastic components which die all the time. It wouldn't be a problem, but the mechanic has to take half the car apart to get to some of the components, so labour costs are pretty high. I may have just bought a lemon, but it's burned me enough to stay well clear of any VAG cars.

Hey brother, would love your take on MK7 GTI (2014-2020)

Hey mate, thank you so much for your videos it's saved me making a bad decision I nearly brought a Mk5 Golf 1.4 TSI GT. I have decided to go for a Mk6 2.0 TDI instead, the 110bhp version. What is the difference between this and the higher bhp version?
@differentcarreview-dcr2 жыл бұрын
The 110 hp version doesn't have issues with the oil pump drive shaft which can be worn out The more powerful versions with 140 and 170 hp made to the end of 2009 which have CBAB or CBBB engine code can have the 77mm oil pump drive shaft worn after approx. 200 000 km. This will later cause loss of oil pressure which can kill the engine. All the newer 2.0 TDI engines with more than 140 hp made from 2010 have an updated 100 mm long shaft which is usually ok, but even this shaft can be worn-but just after approx. 400 000 km. other than this the reliability of these engines is the same

@@differentcarreview-dcr ok great so the 110bhp 2.0 TDI 2009 sounds like a good option?
@differentcarreview-dcr2 жыл бұрын
yes, just make sure that the timing belt + accessory belt is replaced in time and keep an eye on the regular diesel engine problems

Hello ! very informative video, i'm lookin to buy the twin charger 1.4 tsi 160 hp. I took the car to the vehicle inspection institute today, it has some leaks but the seller said he would fix it at his own expense Vehicle year 2010 with 66,000 kilometers First of all, does you think it makes sense to have such a low kilometer? Secondly, I wanted to know if it's worth buying it for you And I wanted to know at most how much it might cost me to repair the most critical things and is it a one-time repair or a recurring one? i hope you can answer me i really dont know what to do, its my first car and i love it, i just dont know how expensives and oftens can be the repairs thank you !

Steer clear of the twincharger, fair chance the kms are low because it's been stuck at a mechanics for months on end. They really aren't worth the risk - buy a mk7 1.4 instead. They're far more reliable

I have a bad experience with error code DTC03366 on my 1.4tsi CAVD. Brake system alarm when speed > 80Km/h It's a programming problem and there seems no cure to it. I updated the software at dealer. Didn't change anything.

The jetta is very similar to the golf of the same generation. So Engine, interior, and most other things are the same as in this video.
