Developer of the pressure-sensitivity homebrew here: the 3DS does have *real* pressure sensitivity :P If you read the datasheet for the touchscreen controller (TSC) of the DS Lite, it will tell you how to calculate the pressure from X, Z1, and Z2 variables. I did add some post-processing to the pressure displayed, so it feels a bit more linear. But the problem is that due to the inverse nature of the pressure reading (pressing harder decreases the resistance in a 1/x fashion), pressing harder will eventually max out the resolution of the ADC, and pressing harder will basically produce measuring noise. And thus, the pressure value being displayed is just some composite value that "feels" right to display. As for the glitching of the box, that's just me not flushing the data cache, and since the GPU can't read the CPU cache, there will be striped lines appearing. This is also a resistive touchscreen, so some observations make sense: - pressing with your whole finger produces bigger "pressure", compared to pressing really hard with a stylus. makes sense, considering more contact surface area means less contact resistance, and thus it's detected as bigger pressure - pressing two fingers on the side with equal force makes it detect the touch in the middle of the imaginary line drawn between the two fingers, since a continuous resistive touchscreen film has only one segment, and thus it's not possible to (reliably*) detect more than a single touch. - pressing with two fingers makes the touch film bend in a way, where it creates a huge strip of contact surface area, and thus it creates such a low resistance path, that it gets detected as some huuuuuge pressure value Oh, and just like the other commenters, I was also scared that you'll crack that LCD. Those "rings" around the stylus was the display panel screaming for help, it is not drawn by my program.

Ah! It's a four wire resistive touch screen, right? Well, when you can measure the resistance of the energy going through it, you can get an idea of the pressure on it, since if I'm not mistaken, increased pressure means less distance between the layers, which means less resistance! By using two point, you massively decrease the resistance, so it's perceived like one huge squish! By the by, Dual Pen Sports manages a kind of multitouch using this same input! So yeah, it's complicated! It's a relatively modern resistive touch screen, the technology is sort of a weird in-between!

Technically you could call the one with microphone tapping "attack sensitivity", attack being the initial strike (or pressure for a wind or brass) strength of a pitch on an instrument.

Here's another for you, Nintendo has never used the term "Famicom" to refer to their 8-bit console in Japan, it's always been "Family Computer" or "NFC". It's because Sharp owns the trademark/copyright to the name for a range of Microwwaves, and why the Sharp Twin Famicom can use the name.

hi Famicom nerd here The whole trademark situation with SHARP is true, however they filed two trademarks. The first was filed under "consumer electronic device" and the second under "entertainment purposes" and due to this Nintendo couldn't release their new home console under the name Famicom so instead they went with Family Computer. SHARP would transfer their trademaks to Nintendo on October 17, 1985 roughly 2 years after the Family Computer released in Japan. Because of this Nintendo allowed SHARP to make different versions of the Family Computer which includes the SHARP C1, the Twin Famicom, and the Famicom Titler. Nintendo would continue to use the full Family Computer name but around the mid-80s slowly started to adopt the Famicom name with even commercial releases having the Famicom abbreviation on the back of the box next to Family Computer. In 1988, around the time Super Mario Bros. 3 released in Japan, Nintendo introduced the Famicom Family branding which was used for any licensed Famicom products after 1988. So yes, while it is true that Nintendo doesn't call their manufactured consoles the Famicom, they've owned the name since SHARP transferred the trademarks in 1985 and uses the abbreviation from time to time but almost never for their actual consoles. sorry for the long write up blame SHARP for making this confusing

I have the AR card poster from the Australian Nintendo Magazine!! I used to collect them at the time, lol. If I remember right, the other side had a giant AR code for Oshawott in Pokédex 3D. Yes, just Oshawott.

I'll throw my hat in to the ring, and say that there have been 4 seperate types of 3ds charging cradles released for different models. The first cradle was bundled with the original 2011 system (obv) the second was for the 3ds xl and was only ever offered by club nintendo, and the ones for the new 3ds and new 3ds xl have the odd quirk of standing the 3ds upright

YAHOO MORE FACTS!!!! Thank you for making another. I never knew people were thinking that the touch screen had pressure sensitivity. It didn’t strike me as having that kind of feature because if it did have it every art application like ColorsLive, Butterfly: Inchworm Animation 2, and maaaaybe Flipnote Studio 3D would’ve used it instead of using workarounds.

The developer heard that the ds lite and maybe the original ds model has pen pressure. Ive been doodling on my ds from time to time since 2021 but theres another another who is been doing it since the homebrew app's initial start

He thought of John Kirby as well, but that wasn't the primary reason why he picked that name.", and we don't know why someone suggested to put the name Kirby in that list.
