I'm a fat, old broad (in my 50s) in the U.S. (and still gorgeous) who used to buy junk, had tons in my closet, yet would spend (seemingly) hours looking for something to wear to work, but had nothing. Stressing out. I had a lot of the junk I hadn't worn since you were in high school, and way before (LOL!). About the beginning of this year, I began to get rid of the junk. I found your blog and I identified with it immediately. We have similar taste. It gave me focus on what to keep and what to get rid of. I am still trying to let go of some favorites from years past that I'll probably never wear again. I ask myself why is it so hard to rid myself of them. Anyway, my basic, daily wardrobe is way, way down from the previous. I can pack most of it in a small suite case! Proud of myself for that. I'm a hiker and backpacker and would pack a week's worth, plus gear, in my backpack. Why couldn't I do similar with my regular clothes? I'm all about ultralight packing, multi-use, minimalism all the time now. Thanks for your inspiration and ideas. Please don't ever stop!

I am Also in my 50s. I was beginning to return to what my mother taught me, to build a wardrobe based on good quality, classics. Her style is very French, mine a little more colorful, but classic. Signe, you have really helped mye on my journey back to sane fashion and I now love my wardrobe and am not wasting money or resources.

SeaHikerChick .. haha me three in my 50s... I'm thinking this inspiration we are seeing from Signe is the way it was for us growing up, it's the good old days, wearing things over and over till they moldded to our bodies. They was no keeping up to everyone and our parents taught us buy it once take care of it , make it last. Like she said, change the toss out mentality. It's so nice seeing us gals enjoy a good wardrobe like sharing a good bottle of wine🍸cheers

You've gone through many metamorphoses. And you have grown with your style. I've been classic since my hippie days back in the 60s when I finally ditched my fro, bell bottoms and fringed vest and have worn nothing else. Classic is always the way to go, no matter what the current trend. Your videos are truly inspiring.

It was interesting to go back in time with you and hear your story. I imagine many of us who don't want fast fashion and excess have evolved in a similar way. You have grown more beautiful with age. My younger style was all about dresses, short skirts, lace and patterns, and erred on the sexier side. Nowadays I love premium jeans, pants, silk shirts and tops, cashmere sweaters, jackets and great shoes. There is more repetition and less shopping too. Thanks for sharing Signe. Regards, Deb.

I was someone who wouldn't wear the same clothes in a month till I become someone who only her clothes once -2x a year. I'm not even rich, just a hoarder. No matter how thick or thin my pocket, I would always buy clothes to feel good even if I only wear some once-thrice. I started purging my closet before the new year but after 3 months I gradually started to buy clothes then became an impulsive shopper again. So I've been watching vids about minimalism and I appreciate how you keep some beautiful colors as style.

I have watched a lot of videos about capsule wardrobes and minimalism over the past few years and yours I have to say I enjoy the most. To me minimalism is all about creating a fresh and open space to live your life and I get that feeling when I watch your blog. Some videos are very psycholigically analytical which is good but the way they talk is more of a speech/classroom format. Or minimalism is sold as a new fashion trend. Or the person goes off on tangents talking about other stuff or they talk a mile a minute really fast. So I enjoy your to the point and relaxed way of talking. My own fashion journey is very full and complicated. Not sure I could get it all out here. I'm 37 now and recently feeling like I crave fashion that is timeless and ageless. Fashion that looks great on someone of any age. Fashion that is sophisticated but relaxed without being lazy. Fashion that is fun but not juvenile or overly postering. Fashion that is mature and classic without being frumpy or boring. And fashion that just makes me feel fresh. I feel like a lot of fashion weighs me down because there is so much thought, planning, psychology and identity involved. I have had the grunge look, the modern grunge look, the bohemian, the hippy, the goth, pastel goth, punk, rock chick, yoga girl, kawaii, rockabilly girl, everyday girl. My hair has been bright cherry red multiple times, bleached blonde, my natural brown, black, black with pink and purple strands, and deep burgundy. It's been long and down to my hips, shoulder length or a shorter bob with bangs, assymetrical bob with assymetrical bangs, mohawk, pixies, mushroom cuts and completely shaven off. My hair currently is shaven off which I love! I hoard nail polish but they are getting old and because I care about having healthy make up I'll be replacing them with less color options as well as a healthier brand. Same for the rest of my cosmetics. Shoes used to be a problem for me but no more. In a world full of choices for some reason it isn't that great to have so many and to have a lifestyle created for us to make so many choices constantly. It's stupidly a full time job with making no money out of it. Minimalism for me has been a long process over time. I've slid back and then waking up and being like "Wait a minute!" again. I live in a smaller basement apartment now so it's easier for me to feel claustrophobic and crowded so it pushes me to be even more minimalist than I have dared to before. Thank you for your videos!

I can TOTALLY relate. I grew up in the 90's and had a very limited budget. During that time (90's) in the US, trends were more unique and crazy, which was easy to find on the sale racks at my local mall. I filled my closet with the most unusual pieces, and won the title of "best fashion sense" in High School....BUT I don't know how I really earned that title, because I don't think I actually WORE any of the pieces that I bought! While my friends envied my closet full of one offs, bright colors, and strange prints...I was immensely jealous of their more basic pieces. I just recently started building my capsule (minimal) wardrobe, and am SO MUCH HAPPIER. The great thing is, I don't have to give up my "weird" wardrobe at all-I just pair ONE crazy piece with a basic look and I feel way more confident. Cheers to you! Thank you for the inspiration. Love your videos. XO

I so enjoy you on KZbin! You use such a common sense ideas in your lifestyle and dress. I am sorry to say that it has taken me 61 years to get to somewhere close to where you already are! I am in the process of dealing with my quest to downsize in every area of my life after finally arriving at the point where I have more than I need or want. I have never liked shopping for clothes, have never been good at dressing or makeup, but instead, have always loved home decor, so that's where I put my focus! Now, on the other side of 60, I am so ready to do the opposite! Thank you for your sensible, minimal approach to everything! It lines up with my (new) need for simplicity, balance and LESS! Love your style!

Thanks for sharing such a personal evolution with us! I used to think wearing and buying the same type of things over and over meant I was in a rut... so I'd go out of my comfort zone and buy things that attracted me and were new and fun but then those pieces would never fit in with my other stuff and just wouldn't get much wear. Now I've accepted that there are certain colours, materials, and cuts that I strongly prefer and try not to deviate from it, thinking of it as my signature style rather than being stuck in a rut. :)

In a couple of month I'll be turning 30 and I wanted to change something in my life. I realized I have junk in my wardrobe and just a few things that really worth keeping. Actually I didn't want to freak out every time I have to think in an outfit and I don't want to waste money (also I like what you said about second hand and environmental clothing). Thanks to you I'm at the beginning of this journey and I'm so glad I found you: I've already classified my clothe, got what I need and hope to keep going in the same direction. I want to get over with this from day to night but I know is a process. I'm just worry about the clothes I don't want to keep (what should i do with them?) and the time I have to wait for my dream capsule wardrobe!! 😩 Keep posting. You are such an inspiration! This is such a great video! I can completely relate and guess where almost the same age, since I had the exact same style evolution, from pop to emo to skater to pop. A few years ago I discovered Light By Coco and was so inspired by Project 333 that I started a capsule wardrobe. I came across your channel a while ago and just loooooved it, but never took the tame to leave a comment, so here I am! Capsule wardrobes have been such a savior to me, since they help me to shop less and really think about what I want. I always felt guilty towards the environment when I shopped so much, buying low quality labels that have such an impact on the world. Now I have more focus, I shop more thoughtful and found my own style. And I LOVE to wear outfits on repeat! Really love this community

Great retrospective on your fashion journey. For me20's was a decade of following Harper's Bazaar and Vogue magazines while shopping on a shoestring budget. Worked in jeans and t-shirts in our family business.30's starting over working in an office building a wardrobe for office work, little else.40's life's focal point was athletics. Ditched high heels, work clothes were functional and workout clothes and gear were where the money went.50's return to fashionista version two with stylish fitted fashion to flatter a lean body.60's wearing clothes primarily for comfort, versatility and mainly classic traditional styles that will outlast fast fashion trends and fabrics that endure frequent washings as I will wear the same pieces every few weeks in varying and different combinations.as for Minimalism? Capsule wardrobe? The closest I came was in my 40's because of the single focus of athletics diverting all available resources into athletics, fitness, nutrition, and training. Worked to live out my fitness goals.

It was so nice to seeing your style evolution. 🤗 When I started secondary school, I was into skater type of clothes with lots of black. Then it changed into more girly and feminine with lots of colors and prints. It went further on more casual with some colors popping here and there. And now I still choose comfort above all, so many casual pieces. But I love to get some pieces with some details on them, such as ruffles and embroided figures. I don't go for bright colors and prints, I'd rather pick earthy naturals colors that suit my skintone. I'd like to mix with some bohemian pieces too. So that's how my style has evolved. 😊

So interesting to your style evolution. I went through a lot of different styles too and currently love wearing basics now like you. I wish I could get my wardrobe to be minimal and purchase less but it's been hard!

It IS very hard! Also because life isn't static. We change and evolve constantly. But classic never goes out of style :-* XX

Really enjoyed watching how your style has evolved through the years. I love your style now and the simplicity of it. I think long hair really suits you although the shorter style you are now wearing is very chic and looks great on you too. Thanks for sharing this video, cheers 😊

Hej från Sverige! Our style evolution is soo similar! I was adicted to The Hills and Lauren too (and kind of emo before that)! I'm still working on my capsule wardrobe though.. don't know if I'll ever get down to like 37 items but I've managed to at least get rid of half of it.
@UseLess_dk

Haha, so funny we have that in common! In the beginning and it was very helpful for my to stay fixed at 37 products in terms of learning to limit myself and getting my bad shopping habits under control. But the most important thing is, to have things in your wardrobe that you love to use over and over again. So today I have allowed myself to bend the rules a bit. I usually end up with something between 35-45 products and I only purchase a 2-3 new things every season, sometimes maybe even only one thing :-) XX

Thanks for sharing your story. It was very interesting. I recently rearranged and decluttered my closet. It is similar to your style. I feel like I don't have this need to go out and get something new all the time anymore. I can mix and match what i have and i really enjoy that ;) i always like your video.

Haha great video! This was really cool, loved all the different styles. I think it is very interesting how we can evolve our style but still find common pieces or staples, like your bag. For me it was a pair of tall brown boots. I have never been a big shopaholic, but your videos have helped me understand my style better using the things i already owned. I have recently read the book 'goodbye things', its very informative and quite fun. Can you do a books you love post? Xx from uruguay

Thanks for sharing, we have a lot in common in this video, I started also as a small town pop girl, then went emo (also had a ring on my lip) met my husband 10+ years ago, cut my hair several times and grew it back hahah and now looking to aim to a more simple style :) also I went from shopaholic and trying to be minimalist, impulse buys, cheap items etc

Crazy that we have SO many things in common, haha! It's really awesome reading through the comments and seeing how many people all over the world who relate to the same things. Not to sound super corny, but it's actually kinda beautiful! Thanks for your comment

The bob hair style is a nice look on you if you decide to do it again. If you want long hair for the day you can always do hair extensions.

Hi Signe! I stumbled upon your channel and I think you’re so inspiring! I have a bad habit of spending too much on clothes, and i always keep buying the same things all over again (in my case, just basic plain tops) 😐 i have no idea why i do that! Lol. Will apply your tips on building a basic, good quality wardrobe and hope i wont hoard so much in the very near future! Wish me luck!

joannatttt I have gone through a similar journey so I hope you don't mind me answering: you can sell or donate clothes. Everything that is not wearable any more will have to be thrown out although I try to recycle my old clothes. Deciding what to keep can be tricky but it is much easier when you are honest with yourself and answer 2 questions: do I wear it and love it or not? Everything that you don't love needs to go:)

I fully agree with Joanna :-) That's what I've done through time as well. Everything you don't love needs to go and never be re-purchased. I do store away clothes I still love but just need a break from, from season to season too.

My style has consisted of dark jeans and t-shirts and shorts and capris and sneakers at work! In the winter I wore turtlenecks in dark green and red and black, with jeans, and boots. For church I wear graphics t- shirts designed I identify those who serve in guest services, with jeans and capris, and sandals boots or sneakers. I wear earrings, and bracelets occasionally.

Very beautiful video!!!! I have just starting no to make capsule wardrobe just searching for my style and adopt a more minimal lifestyle in general and I feel so overwhelming. I haven't bought anything yet. I'm just do my research... I find it very difficult... Keep doing this beautiful videos it really gives inspiration. Ps... one of the most difficult things is to leave in Greece like me (where the salaries is just a joke... And the situation here in all the domains is bad) and try to save for buy something with good quality and escape from the big fast fashion companies. Ps... Sorry for my English

Apologies for the late comment, but my shopping habits/journey is definitely similar to yours in some ways. The only difference would be that I successfully avoided that emo phase [plus the emo music lol xD]. I decided a couple months ago to use the capsule wardrobe system thanks to you and a couple other slow fashion/lifestyle bloggers, and since then, I've come to see that my style is very classic, but also fun and casual.
