I thought Lan zhan taught Wei to play this song so he can calm himself down from the evil inside. That’s why he knows how to play it. He just didn’t know Lan Zhan only taught Wei how to play this and no one else should know how to play this song. Then Again I didnt read the book and don’t know mandarin. So subtitle translations may have confused my understanding of this series lol.

Lan Wangji played it on request (I think he had been working on it since a previous cave adventure.) Between his spotty memory and the high fever he was running at the time, plus the time skip, it's actually pretty amazing that Wei Wuxian remembered this at all.

Wen Ning is someone who helped Wei Wuxian out years ago. He was an innocent, kind boy who got caught up in his clan's wrong doings. Everybody hated Wen Ning's clan and the people from it, so Wen Ning was killed indiscriminately after being protected by Wei Wuxian for a while. His body was brought back to fight using the diabolical arts and eventually, even his consciousness was brought back so he's not really dead or alive here. But Wei Wuxian was able to use Wen Ning to help him fight back then before he himself died. And now he can use Wen Ning again since he's been summoned into a new body.

Tbh I thought their special effects would be worse. It's still bad, but then again I was raised on American movies (No i'm not American and biased) where special effect like these would be 1980's. Their stories are phenomenal though, MTXT novels are the best things I have ever experienced. Anyway, it's much better than I expected considering their budget would be nothing compared to Hollywood.
