@@travisboutilier2220 don’t be such a horrible jerk Travis look sometimes the main male of the tv show, film, video game story or comic stories doesn’t always get the man female look, I did felt very sad for Quasi that he didn’t win her either when, I was young when, I watch it but now since, I’m a young adult and become wiser and mature, I think he did the right choice at putting his friendship on first and doing his romance looking for later and accepting others before himself that’s the heart of true pure good hero till the very end he is indeed and on my point of view Phoebus and Esmeralda do make a very cool looking couple and greatfully Quasi is such a great looking honoured brother figure to them both all the way indeed that’s what counts because friendship is more important then romance and we need to let others make choices just like Quasimodo, Phoebus and Esmeralda all made together and they decided together that Phoebus and Esmeralda are meant to be together in this great universe of Disney creation so if you got a problem with it then you think about watching sad ending movies rather then happy ending movies like this one Travis because as, I said not every main story males don’t end up with all main story females sometimes they might end up with supporting characters in the story instead and you need to learn to accept that 100% indeed!

@@drewharding Well too bad, i can be whatever i want when something upsets me that much and that's not right, the main male should always get the main female. i think he did the wrong choice putting pathetic friendship before passionate romance and he should put himself before others. in my opinion Esmeralda and that dumb knight make a pathetic couple And Quasimodo should become bitter and angry at them for stealing his true love cause romance is more important than friendship and people should have choices made for them. they should have decided that Esmeralda and Quasimodo are meant to be together, a mistake was made in the Disney universe by having Esmeralda choose that knight instead. i will never accept that, the main male should get the main female every time.

Imo Esmeralda was more of a sister to Quasi who would help him look at himself and say that he isn’t a deformed monster, but an actual human with feelings. The reason Esmeralda fell in love with Phoebes was because they were both a birds of a feather and Phoebes liked her for who she was. Quasimodo loved her too but he naively misread the signs she liked him back due to her kindness when she in fact only saw him like a brother or a friend.

Someone else brought out a very good point. Quasimodo and Frolo both looked at Esmeralda as some kind of allusion. Quasimodo thought she was a perfect angel with absolutely no flaws. Frollo on the other hand saw her as a demon who only did evil. Phoebus didn’t see her as an idea in his mind. He just saw a humble beautiful woman with natural flaws and loved her regardless.

There are SOOO many new folklore stories they could make, but instead, they just regurgitate their old films. I remember in college I took a class on fairy tales, and the teacher gave us a book FULL of fairy tales from all around the world, divided into chapters based on where they originated. Oh, how I wish Disney had that book! People are always complaining about Ariel being made black in the live action version of the Little Mermaid, but what I really wonder is: there are countless African folklore stories waiting to be made into movies, INCLUDING ones about mermaids, so why not delve into that? And it's not just Ariel. You'd think a company whose whole thing is taking old stories and adapting them into movies would see this as a chance to be CREATIVE! But they are just lazy and only care about money! Sorry this turned into a rant, but there's like a gold mine of stories just waiting to be adapted. I also wish they would do them in 2-D. Does anyone actually prefer this CGI crap over 2-D? Like if they had to choose, would they choose CGI? I think not!!!

By the end of the movie, Quasi seemed genuinely happy to see them together. Everyone loses out in love at least once. I certainly have, but guess what? I found someone who does love me back and we're getting married in a month. Quasi was just so mature that he remained Esmeralda's friend despite his love unrequited. And he did get his own girlfriend later, and while I didn't see the second movie, I can surmise from the comments that Madeline and Quasi were a pretty good pair. I figure, as long as Quasi wasn't really bothered by losing his love, why should anyone else be? It's easy for people to project themselves onto these characters, but really, I just see a guy who recognizes that he lost out but is still happy for her because he sees who she's meant to be with and it's not him, and then he finds a person he IS meant to be with.

I’m thankful for Disney’s version of certain movies. At least in this one Esmeralda lives and ends up with Phoebus. The book is incredibly sad and the musical as well, but it’s a powerful story. And in the Little Mermaid as well, where she actually marries her prince unlike the sad ending to the Hans Christian Andersen version.

Phoebus saw Esmeralda as a person while everyone else, including Quasimodo, saw her as an object of desire. While Quasi's intentions were more pure than most of the men, he still put her on a pedestal and practically worshipped her. Phoebus while attracted to Esmeralda still saw her as an individual and neither glorified her or put her down.

Phoebus was a womanizer in the Original Source novel, He tries to bed her after seducing her but gets stabbed by frollo. spoiler alert Esmarelda gets hanged and Quasimodo goes to an Endless despair. At the end, decades later A grave digger finds 2 skeletons, One of a Woman and other of an Deformed Man, The deformed Skeleton embracing the Esmarelda Skeleton. Quasimodo never got his justice. Disney just took away the whole point of the story and make Pheobus the Womanizer as Knight in Shining armor and makes him her husband

My problem with the movie putting Esmeralda and Phoebus together isn’t because Phoebus wasn’t the main character, it was because that they didn’t really show the two developing much of a relationship. As opposed to Quasimodo and Esmeralda who really talked and got to know each other. I don’t mind when the main character’s love interest falls for someone else, as long as it makes sense why the other person was chosen.

I somewhat agree. I will admit I’m not a huge fan of Esmerelda and Phoebus, love her but not really Phoebus. There’s other Disney couples that don’t have that much screentime together, like Dr. Dobbler and Captain Amelia, Milo and Kida, or Hercules and Meg. But the reason why Esmerelda falls for Phoebus is he’s the first man/guard who doesn’t see her as a filthy witch/thief or a gypsy. Instead he sees a woman and seeing her feisty and fighting spirit simply made him like her even more. The substance of their relationship is its a subplot, despite it greatly affects poor Quasi getting friendzoned so hard. But she likes how noble he is and wasn’t afraid to risk burning to death in a fire to save an innocent family from Frollo’s madness. Main reason why I don’t like them more is because they don’t really have a lot of scenes, but regardless I always get really sad for poor Quasi, but he managed to understand and see how much Esmerelda really loves him, and she sees Quasi as a good friend in need

The entire point of Quasi’s character is him learning to love himself as he is, and ultimately he didn’t need a girlfriend to be happy. While I think Esmerelda should’ve picked him instead, I feel Madeline in the sequel was a much better fit for him. Despite how awful that sequel was, she struggled with an emotional abusive relationship with her boss, seeing her as nothing but a pretty face for show. Quasi helps her see the good in the world and to learn to love herself. Imo the main reason why I don’t particularly like Phoebus, as Es’s love interest, is mainly because I felt he was more eye candy for the movie to give her a handsome love interest for selling toys and merch. He’s a bit arrogant imo and simply cracks one liners to impress Esmerelda, but he doesn’t do nearly as much as Quasi did for her. But the main reason why I feel Esmerelda and Phoebus are one of the least popular Disney couples is largely because of Esmerelda literally kissing him in front of Quasi. And its a jarring scene to see “only hot guys get the girl” kind of thing.

Then the extra sting was Esmerelda accidentally publicly humiliating and embarrassing him, and especially when the guards ganged up on him and pelted him with food. No one stood up to stop this aside Phoebus except Esmerelda, who felt so awful and ashamed she mistook him for a contestant and publicly humiliated him. The extra extra sting came when she kisses Phoebus in front of him, I’m not even sure if she knew Quasi liked her that way too

Victor Hugo's novel has to be one of the weirdest choices ever made for Disney movie material. An overtly political, complex, tragic tale about injustice and misery (and gothic architecture) in which the lines between good and evil blur, love is confused for sexual obsession and viceversa, and power corrupts everyone, be it Frollo or Phoebus. To me is there with Pocahontas in terms on 'what were they thinking'? IDK maybe the other option was The Naked Lunch
