I thought of turning a mallard duck house into a way to make my own blade. I am very skilled, in martial arts, as well as in painting and traditional frame construction. I am able to perform a traditional forge lighting, using a rod. The ducks of course would be wild ducks. I would only ever release the ducks that were average, but keep the best of the best. The oldest of course could stay, if they wanted to. Naturally the process would attune them to the wild. I do nothing to cull or influence their population, beyond controlled releases. I also would wait two weeks after the hammering, so the ducks are at peace, haha!.
I would give my life to learn from this man. I'm already studying blacksmithing and armoursmithing, and I'm in my first year japanese, all in the hope that i will be able to go there and learn from the real masters.
@MonochromaticMedia Not great at all lol. I've pretty much given up on studying in japan for political reasons. I'm trying to devote myself to making armour (both european as japanese) instead. this is going better

@daimon hellstrom While I agree with you in that there are blacksmiths around the world capable of crafting a sword just like that one, it is true that, in the West, it's not regarded in the same way as it is in Japan. It's not a matter of being able to create something of the same level, but having a culture that still regards it as a work of art and something that deserves to be revered.
@odgesun4 жыл бұрын
Charles Clarke This is a traditional craft and must keep to the ancient traditional style. And This is a National qualification. Postscript: If a blacksmith makes a Japanese sword without a license in Japan The blacksmith will be arrested. In Japan, possession of swords other than Japanese swords is prohibited. Naturally, if a blacksmith makes a European long sword in Japan, he will be arrested.
@assortedtempura13324 жыл бұрын
@Charles Clarke indeed with all modern technologies available these days, there is no way the traditional way will be as produce ones as good as modern steels. but i love how they made this into a form of art and preserve the craft, tradition and cultural values.
@assortedtempura13324 жыл бұрын
@Charles Clarke why don't you time travel and tell a caveman you could have a better "western" material to make a awesome wood club? or even find few "western" blacksmiths who prefer old school (those folks only uses good old hammer, but no power hammer etc.) and tell them their method would have lesser quality? you are keep missing my point. As i said, the traditional way would never match the quality of materials with modern technology. i'm saying the traditional value they preserve is important.
