The heat is the cat according to other pepes and might be better with the skid plate removed. The RE dont have one and seems better. My Transalp got hotter when I fitted a skid plate. Good review, your manner helps a lot.
@UsernameKate Жыл бұрын
Interesting!!! You know that makes PERFECT sense as I didn't feel the heat on the RE and I couldn't figure out why since the engine is the same. Makes sense!!!

@@UsernameKate I did watch your review for the RE and remembered you saying that. I rode the RE yesterday after riding the DE and found the RE slightly to small for me (6' 1"). They are great bikes and am seriously considering trading my Transalp 750 in for a DE as the engine is way more torquey. I loved the DE, every time I stopped I wanted to get back on. If only they did the white one here which is available in Canada. The DE seems to inspire confidence. Probably the best bike I have ridden in 53 biking yrs. One of the things I like is that they have kept the controls simple like the DL650XT 2020 which I had.

I think that people are simply tired of all the parallel twins being driven by a combination of production costs and emissions regulations. People don't hate parallel twins so much as they worry that will be all that is available soon.

That looks like a really competent bike, especially the 'green' lane bit. You seem to really enjoy that. Just a thought, instead of binning your bashed helmet, make it into a 'hanging basket', I've seen one and, it looked really well. 👍.

Well done Kate!!! Brilliant review as usual. I love the way you tackle these taller bikes. At 5.9" with a 30" inseam, taller bikes have always intimidated me a little bit. I sat on one of these 800DE bikes and I loved it, but it did feel like it was going to be a bit too much for commuting and light touring. I went with a 2023 V-Strom 650 XT, and I'm loving it so far. The old school is the GOOD school!!! 😉

If you have trouble mounting the bike turn the bars clockwise being careful that it stays on the sidestand, the bike will lean to the left slightly more and make it easier to get on. I am 6' 1" and I still have to use this method to avoid hitting my top box.

Hi Kate, it seems like good alternative to other brands in the mid-sized bikes. It has not however anymore a V engine but a parallel twin. This make it 'stand-up' a bit in how high the weight is distributed. Honda 750 engine used in NC750X, has its cylinders almost horizontal. V-Strom 800 DE engine is more up-right. It is a taller then Honda, it has seat and ground clearance higher, it is heavier by some 16kg. It is more powerful but also pretty much more expensive. In your experience so far with this bike, when you drop it, how easy/difficult is/was for you to pick it up?

Very good shots of the bike! Gives a really good impression. Courageous to ride a bike where you can hardly get your feet on the ground :) 😉 I rode the transalp, but I found it a bit disappointing, lot of power, but kind of restless. The power curve of the V strom looks better with more power over the whole middle area.

@@UsernameKate Sorry to hear about your Insta360 X3. I've just bought one, and I ordered the metal cage, the lens guards, and the screen protector at the same time. Bloody expensive, but hopefully if it ever hits the ground, it won't get destroyed! I didn't fancy a stone smashing into one of the lenses, as well. The camera really needs to be attached by two clamps to be safe on a motorbike because of the vibrations, and also the pole tends to bend a bit. 👍

Brilliant video as normal, but that side road, ive tried going down it before. But those signs say "Private road" when you get up to it and i got told off for going on it lol. The straw characters is some sort of event where they do a scarecrow competition. View round rivington lately has been amazing though. I know its been wet, but past few days viewing distance has been awesome. I like the classic styled look of the V-Strom where it looks similar to the 1980s version. Been catching quite a lot of drivers driving on the wrong side of the road on my camera of late too, its annoying... Typed while watching on the TV lol.

now would be a good time to ask how the DE compares to the RE in terms of handling? Obviously the 21" front and longer travel will make all the difference off road, but I reckon a few potential owners will be looking at the new platform as a replacement for their old Vstrom. NB/ If you can twat the DE up Belmont Road at normal tyre pressures and you're both still in one piece, the suspension must be pretty supple! Sounded like you have a lot of time for the bike overall.

@blackskunk54 Жыл бұрын
The rake angle if different making the wheelbase 2" shorter on the RE. This obviously partly affects the handling. But, it also makes the RE too small for my liking at 6' 1" (just a little) Gonna have to demo the DE again.
