I'd give them a B+. Sure they responded to a man with a camera but they didn't push the issue and were respectful of your rights. They also tried to get ID but again didn't try to intimidate or push the issue, They actually seemed to want to be helpful. I might give them a A If I'm grading on a curve.

Great audit! And thank you for the information concerning the laser calibrator. Too many people think laser can be calibrated with a tuning fork like radar guns. They are a Laser system that measures distances precisely two times and at a precise time between them. Then it can calculate speed. It just needs a reflective surface on your vehicle to do it’s job. License plates are a favorite target. And by the way, they don’t use a focused laser beam. At some distances the beam of my laser gun is as wide as the lane of a highway.

In the uk a certificate of calibration is required for speed cameras. Not just DIY calibration which is subject to the individual officers 'discretion' or trust

McDonough is a much better case to cite. It goes a lot deeper than Smith. Smith was a Georgia case whereas McDonough is a Florida case, both heard in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. McDonough was actually appeal to the Supreme Court but the State Attorneys appeal was rejected giving the opinion of the 11th a lot more weight.

Never give ID. Everytime your ID is run its logged across multiple databases and is shared with Fusion Centers. Cops will apply notes to your record in thier system such as "Difficult, hostile towards police, defiant". Get run often enough and youll find yourself on a list.
