Some character's focus will catch a counter focus back dash. Seth is one, who can catch the whole cast. If you counter focus, release, then back dash, his focus will catch. His focus reaches well, as does makoto, and hugo.

Yeah it depends on the range of the focus and of the backdash, and of the starting positions of the two characters.

Outstanding. You covered so many scenarios so quickly with actual examples. Personally, I would like to a video about fighting over space and/or taking advantage of the corner.

Thanks for this video Bafael. The only time I really get caught by Focus attacks are on Jump ins. I play a pretty aggressive Bison and it comes back to bite me when they start throwing these out.

Thanks for this. I was wondering how alot of ppl were countering my jump ins with lvl 1 focus or sometimes even lvl 2. I wasn't sure what to do about this so I would try to grab and it wouldn't work. So then I tried mashing jab to get a 2nd hit in to stop their focus, but that would usually always fail, I guess it was never fast enough. As a Dudley player I try to be patient on the ground for the most part but sometimes I do get impatient and tend to jump in alot and be very readable on my jump ins, especially when an opponent is zoning me very well.

Just two hit combo is enough to break focus like ex projectiles or two or more hit shouryoukens, but it looks like red focus attacks can only be stopped either by throw or command grap

@Bafael
@Bafael 10 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure if I made a video about that it would be pretty short, even if I had a lot to say about it, because it depends so much on your character. I'd pretty much be saying, shoryuken fadc is more valuable when you have ultra. I could do a video on underrated supers though, since I have a lot to say there.
@ThePhoenixWylde
@ThePhoenixWylde 10 жыл бұрын
That sounds cool. It does depend greatly on what character your playing but knowing how decent one character's super is will dictate if you wish to ave or not.

By autoblock do you mean proximity guard or the nature of how you can release back/down-back, mash uppercut, and continue to block in this game? Either way, sounds interesting. I've been watching your videos for a while, about time I subscribed.

I have a habit of blocking a level 1~2, and just throwing them out of the level 3 since it takes a LONG time from release to active frames. I need to break this habit, because the only thing you get out of it is personal satisfaction at great risk...

What are your options after a blocking a tatsu? It's harder to punish some characters than it look.
@Bafael
@Bafael 10 жыл бұрын
Most tatsus are safe on block vs most of the cast. So you crouch so they whiff over your head, and you hit a sweep as they land, or a crouch fierce as they go over your head, or a crouching shoryuken motion. Almost all crouching punches will punish them at any point. You just have to make sure you don't accidentally stand block because then they're usually safe. Sakura's are always safe too, I think, and they're uncrouchable.

How do you counter people like dudley who do focus backdash to defend jump ins?
@Bafael
@Bafael 9 жыл бұрын
Makaveli456 Every character for the most part can do that. Obviously the best thing to do is something invincible that catches backdashes, so they can't release or backdash (like an EX shoryu or an ultra or something). Because your attack is interrupted by landing it's quite easy to do a quick poke after blocking for enough time to block their immediate release, which should be hard to counter hit and catch backdash/forward dash easily. They HAVE to either backdash immediately or release immediately since otherwise throw (a riskless option) beats every other option, so if they didn't release immediately it probably means they're backdashing immediately, which you should be able to react to with a poke. That being said, if they're not actually anti airing you and they're surrendering frame advantage and screen position and taking white health for no reason, you're already in an advantageous position.
@Makaveli456
@Makaveli456 9 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, I noticed that a Dudley player I fight often can't really anti air so he either does an immediate focus backdash or duck whenever I jump. I use akuma by the way. It's annoying because I can't hit him at all as a result..

I've got the console version but no capture card. Everything in this video is still relevant to the actual game though (except the degree of risk taken by doing anti-air red focus).
@KasheMoney
@KasheMoney 10 жыл бұрын
The problem with focusing a focus attack is some characters can punish all of your follow up options. I have played Codys in the past who spam focus when I show my focus backdash tendency. They attack my focus early and release (at level 2 i think, I'm not sure) into FA-forward-dash and then Ultra2 immediatly. It will catch a counter FA, a forward dash and a backdash. All FA metagame is character specific but you have a very good starting point.
@Bafael
@Bafael 10 жыл бұрын
They will only get punishes on your counter FA if you focus really late. Focus has long startup before you reach the point where if you release, the attack comes out. Also Cody ultra 2 doesn't catch backdash. You can backdash out, the dust will hit you airborne, and the wrench will fail to juggle, and you get a guaranteed punish. What character do you play? Maybe I can help.
@KasheMoney
@KasheMoney 10 жыл бұрын
***** This specific set was with Ken. You can test it in training mode. If you try to focus backdash and he releases into your focus,before the backdash you will get grounded ultra'd.
@Bafael
@Bafael 10 жыл бұрын
Kashe What are you describing? If someone releases FA into your focus and forward dashes, and you still backdash without releasing, you're gonna be unsafe. If someone releases focus into your focus and you do ANYTHING but release you're gonna be unsafe. And if you release it's a guaranteed punish. I can make a short video proving it if you like.
@KasheMoney
@KasheMoney 10 жыл бұрын
Maybe you're right. Is that an early enough frame to absorb in your focus where the release hit isn't guaranteed?
@Bafael
@Bafael 10 жыл бұрын
Is there a frame early in your focus where if they hit you with theirs, they can dash in and punish you before you can release? Yes. But if you focus quickly on reaction to theirs, they can't react in time, so they have to be doing level 1 focus dash ins (which are often stupid and unsafe) in order to screw you up. But the best answer to focus is still something invincible or an armor breaker/multi hit move.

Bafael, I can't believe you made the fanciest complicated video ever about how to defend against focus attacks when the answer is a lot more simple. To defend against a FA when you are in range, one needs to whip out 2 or more jabs. The first jab is to be absorbed by the Focus, the second jab will make contact and link into whatever combo or throw afterwards. I would say everything else you mentioned is very handy against RFA's.
@Bafael
@Bafael 10 жыл бұрын
That only works very close and only with chaining jabs. If it was as simple as that no one would focus ever. No one intelligent would focus from within crouch jab range.
