Watching Daigo's Ryu evolve from rusty to dominant throughout this set was a joy to see. 2 games and 1 round down and it all clicked into place, culminating in the Daigo classic at 11:55. And then Momochi had the presence of mind to make a smart character switch to turn it all back around. Both in this set and in the grand final Momochi's mental strength really stood out to me.

Some select hype moments for y'all: 0:05 OG Ryu?? I would've thought the commentators would be screeching! 2:10 Daigo showing the rust with Ryu, dropping his solar plexus c.hp xx shoryu. 2:11 Momochi's ultra punish 3:33 Momochi's second ultra punish 4:08 Daigo blocks the overhead, but has his EX fireball stuffed by step kick 4:18 Momochi focus dashes through the fireball and punishes. Very reminiscint of Infiltration's tactic. 4:42 c.mp c.mk EX fireball FADC ultra 1 5:06 Daigo walks up, pushing c.mk to get Momochi proximity blocking, then fires a close range fireball (that hit anyway) to win the round 6:04 Momochi could've FADC'ed for the game here, chose not to. 6:04 to 6:38 Momochi scheming for ultra 2 through fireball until.. 6:40 he gets it, through EX no less! 7:22 ridiculous counter hit confirm into ultra 2 for the round 8:22 Daigo comes back to take a round 8:41 get offa me! 9:27 wakeup c.mk EX fireball FADC ultra 1 for the round. If you remember his match at the first Capcom Cup against Infiltration in Winners Finals, he took the first game with this exact same sequence. 10:26 get offa me, the sequel 11:17 Momochi air EX tatsu's from a range where if Daigo shoryu's, it'll whiff. Daigo cleverly uses c.hp to anti-air instead. 11:44 LOL 12:08 the long walk on the beach xx umeshoryu! In the seconds prior, he was conditioning Momochi to block with c.mk's and fireball. 12:58 Momochi brings out Cody in hopes of throwing Daigo off guard for one game. 13:36 footsieeeeeeees 14:36 Momochi takes the set with a slide on Daigo' wakeup. Amazing set!

GENIUS counter pick. Daigo becomes nearly unbeatable the longer a set goes, but the switch to Cody threw him off. He had to adapt all over again to a brand new MU. I'm 100% sure Momochi would've lost if he stayed with Ken.

Daigo's strategy is amazing, he analyzes the opponents moves at first then in the end he learns it and looks for the players opening, its insane.

Just like how Daigo made Ryu great, Momochi should be given the same credit for Ken. So many SF players thought of Ken as a middling 2nd rate/tier character until Momochi came along and busted everybody up -- his step-kick tactics combined with that lethal Ultra made Ken super dangerous!

That is such a fair assessment. More than anything as Tokido and others have pointed out, Daigo is a strategy guy who really shines the more he downloads the opponent. Even when losing momochis ken is just amazing, I think the fact that he had to switch to Cody was less about the character and more about needing to throw Daigo off to secure the win. The fact that Ken got him to that point in the set is nothing short of remarkable and a testament to what the character can do

Totally agree SF5 is absolutely terrible compared to USF4 and is inferior in everything including the roster.Imo USF4 is the greatest and most balanced fighting game of all time.Everything about is perfect,from the perfect roster,fighting mechanics,speed of the game,combos,Ultras,EX Special Moves,Focus,Red Focus, Super Combos,to the addictive gameplay.I hope Streetfighter 6 will be at least as great or even better than USF4.

Plus to note, Daigo had an automatic point because he placed 1st in the rankings...so actually, he won 6-4. Im not here to say Daigo is worse or better than Momochi....but to say that Momochi is being bodied by him is absolutely false. Plus in SXSW Momochi beat Daigo in the round robin stage and in the tournament stage. Not to mention, he just beat him in the most recent Topanga League. Both players are far beyond any of our skill level, but in my opinion, Daigo has far more "fanboys" than Momochi and no matter what i, or anyone else says, they will view him as the best. Maybe he is...maybe he isn't. But you can not mention the best, without mentioning Momochi.

Daigo isn't shitty in SF5, he still regularly beats Tokido's Akuma (and Tokido is EVO2017 winner). That's not saying that Daigo is better than Tokido in SF5 right now, but winner in SF5 itself doesn't really mean as much because of how volatile it is.

+BlueLT7 Daigo was applying pressure, making Momochi think he was going to walk up and throw (mind games), Momochi tried to either tech the throw or press a button before Daigo. Because Ryu's Shoryuken has invincibility frames on startup, he knows if Momochi tries to press a button, his Ken will get hit, which is exactly what happened.

+BlueLT7 The mind game actually started roughly at 11:50 where Daigo tried to throw a few cr.mk, which Daigo will have the reaction to combo into ex fb + u1 to end the round (or close to). Daigo landed a throw and went for an ambiguous forward jump (or air-tatsu + super). Momochi guessed it correctly but Daigo's jump pushed Momochi closer into the corner. Momochi later jumped back, meaning he didn't want to go for any normals/tech/throws in case Daigo counter hits him with cr.mk into u1/super. Daigo then walked forward + cr.mk a couple of times to make sure Momochi is in defence mode and during the 3rd time, Daigo ducked down momentarily to fake a cr.mk that conditioned Momochi to block. Daigo used this tiny bit of time to walk forward in order to plant his DP. Momochi, while in defensive mode will most likely tech, and so Daigo went for the Umeshoryu at 12:08
