Put beeswax on zippers and a couple drops of light oil on the sliders and all the hesitancy of the zippers disappears, becomes smooth as glass (sort of).

maybe I should get this instead of the large, I mean for camping I would want the large but this might be better, I need somethign I can put groceries in, never leave home without a pack, bookbags are to small for me. great review

I cant decide between this or the large, I think I will have to get both and I only make 9.50 an hour lol

Tom Thomas at 9.50 an hour let me help you with your buying decision. The Large USGI rucksack is way cheaper than the Medium USGI Assault pack I reviewed. Plus It can hold a complete MSS Sleep System , which the medium pack can't do. On the other hand if you want something for an overnight camping trip, hiking, bush rafting, and maybe as a large EDC bag the Medium Assault pack will be the way to go.

Yeah I like that it can hold the sleep system, I found the medium ruck for $80 new, and the full size for well the same but used like new, ultimately I think I need both lol I never leave home without a pack and am always on the bicycle, right now I am using an old coleman peak 1 probably from the 80's, its tearing apart. let me know if you have any more input, thanks

Tom Thomas At $80 get the Medium Assault pack. It's very difficult to get them at the price. If anything you could easily resell it for a higher price.

its a little late, I ordered the Large with the sustainment pouches and all for $60, hopefully its in descent condition, says it is. I want that smaller one though too, its tempting to get both now, maybe next paycheck, I travel by bike so it will get used, all my cheap bags end up falling apart after a few months, I pack so much in them.

thank u for the very nice review. personally I've looked into this pack cause Im a backpacker really do fond of US military packs(own myself ILBE gen2 main pack, MOLLE2 large rucksack, ALICE medim & large..) but I just gave up buying this pack cause I found out the very crucial failure of this pack. this thing doesn't have any compression straps whatsoever. the ability of compressing the load should be the one of the most important features of packs cause that makes the world of difference when carrying heavy loads. I dont want the items in my pack jumping around like crazy lol I thought I could add compression straps on this pack but no I don't think so..this pack definitely looks cool and like the simple compartments. and it has a frame which is really a good thing but..dont wanna spend my money on this thing.

Several people have complained about a lack of compression straps. Personally it doesn't bother me, but I can se why people want them. Now I have some extra 5.11 Tier System straps laying around that I can just attach to my pack. So again it's not a problem for me. I guess the Army was thinking, if you need a compression strap that means your pack is not full and you can just use the regular assault pack.
