I spent 2 hours on the driving range practice green last night learning how to stop decelerating when I hit the ball. I have been coming back too far and then decelerate as I hit the ball. I’m pretty good at reading greens and have good aim most of the time. When I missed the hole, I would go 6-8 feet past the hole causing a 3 putt instead of a 2 putt green. My husband has me coming back shorter based on length of putt and coming through without stopping/decelerating. I was amazed at how many 1-2 foot putts I had when I missed the hole. I don’t have much distance off the tee and in the fairway, so my short game needs to be really good. I even keep track of my putts and usually average 2 putts/hole. I live in Minnesota, and I’m a 60-year old woman who shoots around 130 on 18.

Thank you for this video. Im trying to help a Blind Golfer with his putting, and he is quite mechanical. He asked where does the actual MOTION come from to move the putter? Which muscles / joints etc? Any help please?
@USGOLFTVshow2 жыл бұрын
Great question, it is a combination of shoulders, arms and hands. Different golfers will feel one more than the other based on person preference. I would also suggest rolling a few putts by holding the putting in only the dominant hand. This is a great way to develop feel and touch. Hope that helps 👊

Not sure if it was Tom Watson but remember hearing that once you look at a put your mind will do the rest or something like that. For beginners he said just close your eyes once you look at the distance and putt. Trust in what you saw and meet up with it combined with practice and don't get too lazy and you will be another tremendous putter. Desire to make the putt, visualization of it going in and the putter is able to see it through.

I am newish to golf and have found that when i was putting longer shots i would putt for close. I am setting myself up for failure by doing this. i find that when i take the time to set up my longer putts with the goal of sinking the ball (it takes a bit longer) i was more successful. Rather than just hoping i would get close enough for an easy second putt, and accepting that goal.

I like a lot of what you are teaching. But what is the purpose of having the eyes over the ball?
@USGOLFTVshow7 жыл бұрын
Chad...great question...by having the eyes over the ball it is easier to create a square set up and for the eyes to see the line of the putt....however, there are a variety of ways to putt...this is our general guideline...thanks for watching and the comment
@betavulgaris78887 жыл бұрын
Almost every pro i've ever heard has said that you need to get your eyes to wherever it is *for you* that traces a straight line. To get this right, set a ball up on a dead straight putt with the line on the ball aiming directly at the centre of the cup. Stand over it. If the line doesn't look right, like it's going to go offline when you hit it, you need to adjust wherever your eyes are at address.

@USGOLFTVshow4 жыл бұрын
Campers Choice Clay is one of our friends and a great coach! We agree that you do not want the putter to decelerate, however you also do not want it to accelerate...it should be maintaining its speed into the impact zone. Make sense?

These are suggestions my friend . I have tried the others as you mentioned and they all have their merits but the grip in this video works the best FOR ME!

You are incorrect. The reverse overlap grip used by all of the great putters and champions is the best. It was/is used by Hogan, Nelson, Snead, Nicklaus, Woods, Trevino, Watson, Crenshaw, Loren Roberts, Brad Faxon, Rory McIlroy, etc. How much more proof do you need that it's the best? LOL

@@HeroFever 99 percent? Sounds like some nonsense you just came up with. On short putts you can get away without using the wrists, on long putts not so much. "I stepped in, then just made sure I got a lot of right hand in that putt, It's such a good feeling when I get a lot of right hand in that putt, and release it." Tiger Woods, after winning the 2019 Masters.
