Who the hell is disliking this video, because unless you sink every putt from every conceivable distance and break, this makes perfect sense. Thanks, Rick, for soliciting the advise of a true expert, and then demonstrating what he’s advising. Well Done!!

I like how you don't edit out your missed shots. You're demonstrating a putting lesson and you missed the very last putt, it's refreshing of you to not simply edit it out to make yourself look even better and us mere mortals even worse. Loving your video series, learning loads. Just have to putt it into practice now 😉👍 (pun entirely intended).

This video was an absolute joke. I’ll tell you how to make more putts. Go to the golf course go to the practice green and start putting random putts make a game of it. Keep score. Do whatever makes it fun. But the only way to get better at putting... putt more

often the most simplest things are the hardest things to master, I guarantee most amateurs aren’t able to do all three of those things anywhere near as well as a professional
@wreckim5 жыл бұрын
@@R3DST1CK I can't believe you're saying this...really. If you simply putt more, and practice more, and then you keep score; often you go on the course and miss putts. This happens all the time. Many of the best players in any club do this all the time. The advice given about making sure the putts start on the intended line, with the minimum amount of degree deviation from the start...if you get awesome at this one skill, you will make more putts period...guaranteed. This advice is not a joke IMO.

Great video. To add one more thing to how to read break, you need to know whether the straight put is uphill or downhill. Downhill putts will always break more because the ball is rolling slower (because you have to hit them with less force to get them to the hole), so the other forces that act on the ball, such as gravity, wind, and grain, have more of an effect on the ball. On uphill puts, you have to hit the ball with more force to get it to the hole, so the other forces have less of an effect on the ball, so you can read less break on uphill puts.

Hi Rick I forgot to say my practice is take 5 balls out of golf bag two of them same make and two a different make one a different colour . then putt the single ball down up across the green , when it stops I have a mini comp best ball in the 2 makes win the point nearest to or hitting the odd ball , it makes it a challenge because if the 1st ball hits the odd ball then target has moved for next and so on , you do not have to hole balls to practice and the target is smaller. I also play clock that is 6 balls similar distances around the hole giving me a variety of putts and if I miss then try better it . my favourite one is across the green at the top well it slopes down and across down so 2 pegs on top 2 pegs on bottom putt 5 balls from side of pegs to try to get them through pegs at other side. WHAT THIS DOES IS GAGE SPEED TEST , HELPS TO READ GREENS , AND GAGE THE DISTANCE . PAUL

I think a lot of amateur golfers and people starting over read greens. Putting has an element of touch and finesse that, although the mechanics can be taught, perfecting the individual technique is important.

Great info, Rick. Fortunately, putting has been a better part of my game and I owe that to the person that got me started in golf about 35 years ago. He had been a collegiate player and a scratch golfer. The information that he gave me was very similar to that of Phil's. Because of that, I have had good success at putting. This method really does work and I encourage everyone to try it if you are having problems with putting. I utilize walking up to the green to help evaluate the slope and do a final look once on the green. Putting can become a favorite part of your game if you are diligent.

Hi Rick, I’m an ex-pat Scot living in Florida now and have become an avid follower of your youtube channel, so thanks in advance for the great work. When I was at high school in Scotland I played a fair amount of golf and had a solid 16 handicap (dipped down to 14 at one summer I think.) I’m now 32 and haven’t played for 14 years! But since moving to Florida, I have just started playing again in last 2 months. I bought a second hand set of cobra Max’s Cos they were cheap/local/decent reviews. In it were a couple of cobra hybrids which I immediately loved. Since I started playing again I have caught the golf bug and I’m loving it. As an adult I’m much more sensible (as a golfer compared to when I was 17 I mean) and I’m improving quickly again- consistently under 90 for each round now after only 2 months of play. In the last couple of weeks I bought a used cobra F8 one length 5 hybrid. It has changed the way I look at golf now.... I love the hybrids and in particular I love these one length clubs. They have just seemed to fit me immediately and I am consistently hitting this 5H off a low tee 200 yards down the fairway (including roll.) and more often than not I can hit the same club off the fairway to land on the green from about 190. My question is this: now I want to find my self a “long-hole tee club” that I can use to get the ball out a bit further (more than my current 200-210.) But I don’t want to sacrifice the control and comfort of these shorter shafts. I know I can buy a one length 3 hybrid, which will get me close to 230 yards I think. But can you suggest to me any other options that I could use off the tee, that don’t require me to have a long shaft (that I know I struggle to control.) if I can stay under 39 inch shaft I think I’ll be ok with my current swing etc and not too many changes and lessons required. However if I get a standard wood/driver I will have to learn that technique as I currently suck with anything that long. If it isnt possible then I’ll just stick to my hybrids until I improve enough that I can realistically contemplate buying a 3 wood or driver. For reference I hit my 5H 200 yards, shaft length is 37.5 inches, club head speed is 93-95mph consistently and I tend towards the heel/fade when I strike it poorly. I also bag a 6 and 7 cobra hybrid, both the same 37.5 inch shaft. All shafts are standard/regular graphite (although I’ve been recommended stiff shafts by a local fitter.) Thanks in advance and I hope you can help me out. Fergus Reeve.

My putting skills: 8. I work on my putting every day. I happen to have vinyl flooring in my kitchen that is the same speed as a slick green. Since I've been putting in the kitchen, my speed sensitivity has improved immensely. Being in a 100 year old house, the floor has a bit of slope which makes "green reading" important. I recently (one year) started playing golf so I only have 28 as a handicap. But I loose most in my short game, especially in putting. Direction, distance (or speed) and reading the green are the keys to good putting. I personally find the distance the most difficult to practise. I recently have had some suggestions by a better golfer : for every meter your backswing should be 5-6 cm depending on the weather and the state of the green. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks Rick for your formidable "breaking 75" and the competition with the "goodgood " boys. You make my apetite for golf greater .

Great tips. I especially like your drill for tip 3. I was playing one time and my buddy said it was going to break left to right. I looked at it and to me it looked like right to left. Sure enough, it was like he said. So I have been having trouble reading the break sometimes. This is the best tip for reading that I have come across. I have seen golfers at times straddling their line between their ball and the hole, sometimes walking a couple of steps towards the hole, and then again, and have always wondered what they were doing. Now I'm sure this is it.
