This is the best lesson I have ever had. I have had countles lessons in person, as well as 3 or 4 online lesson plans in the last couple years, but NONE have got me to hit a draw that starts out to the right and comes back to center target. Successfully shallowing the club is essential to do this and has been a difficult task for me. It was step three in the process that made ALL THE DIFFERENCE. Hands inside the line-Club outside the line. Club head shallows on the downswing adding 2-4 degrees of club path change which is what you need to start the ball to the right. It will take time to ingrain this permanently but wow. Is it fun to actually have some success at something I have wanted to do for 20 years. THANK YOU!

What led me to How to Hit a Draw with the Driver, I do not know. However, I just came home from a round in which I hit every fairway (seriously every one) and with significantly greater distance. I watched and re watched your video and made some notes to take to the course I cannot say enough about your work. I've hit low, running draws for months with limited success. This video got me more flight, more carry, more distance and much better scoring opportunities. Tell your boss you need a raise. I am a very happy camper tonight. THANKS!

All great information, thanks. One thing I suggest is to have a strategy for each hole. This can help make the next shot easier, better angle to green, avoid hazards, etc. On the course I play most greens slope back to front so you avoid being too long. Much easier putting uphill vs. Fast downhiller.

Hi Todd, I am from Kolkata, India. I play on course the oldest golf club outside British Isles - Royal Calcutta. I have been watching your videos for a while. I am almost 57, 5'4" and a late starter in golf. I am playing mostly mid 90s to 105, although I have quite a few low 90s and one 90 in last one year. I am fading my driver a bit. Although I hit flatter trajectory and roll quite a bit, thus staying competitive with much younger players in distance. I realise that with the rains in, I need to hit high draws. Problem is, I am hitting quite right of target when I am trying to hit in to out and high. I hope this video will give me some results.

Great teaching video as always Todd. In this video you talk about changing your aim to the right a little I think but I presume that you are only closing your stance and not pointing the driver face a little to the right? Your related video on aiming the driver clearly states that the driver face should be aimed down the target line whereas the stance should be closed to favour a draw. Thanks very much for all your teaching videos. I wish you would publish a hard copy book on all your teaching!

I saw this tip Friday morning and used it an hour later during my round. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I hit some of the straightest and longest drives in a long, long time. The take-away seemed to be the key for getting my clubhead "in the slot" on the downswing. Just one question: during set-up as you set your feet to the right, does the clubface stay pointed towards the target or does it move to the right too? My best results (e.g. strongest draws) were a result of me keeping the face pointed at the ultimate target and not aiming right along the line of my feet. Thanks for this excellent tip!

As a card-carrying coach, all of these tips work and are spot on. As a player, I notice that if I were to implement all of these tips at the same time, I hook it off the course. I found that working on one thing at a time over an hour or even tow or three practice sessions let’s me work into it and process how the set up and positions influence each other. Took four sessions on the range to work this out and boy oh boy…the results are fantastic. That draw is pretty, but the distance increase is gorgeousness!

It seems to me, from my own experience, that if I drop the right shoulder as you show, I am more likely to hit a high push to the right, often with a slight fade at the end. The face of the driver is open. I do work on keeping my left wrist bowed, not cupped. Cupped will definitely cause a push right. But even with the wrist bowed, if I lower my right shoulder the face seems to come through open. Also, I do focus on keeping the club head outside the hands on the takeaway. Any suggestions? One fault that can creep in and that will also cause a push right is failure to turn the chest and hips back fully. At my age of 80, it is easy to forget to do this. I am quite flexible, that is not the problem. But it takes time and a bit of a deliberate rhythm to the swing to make that full turn. It is so easy to be focused on the shot and thus in too much of a hurry to complete the swing. So the torso does not to turn, while the arms continue the backswing, creating the wrong angle between arms and chest. By the way, I love my driver, it's my favorite club and the one I have the most confidence in.
@USGOLFTVshow

John, great question. If the face is square at address and at the top of the swing, something is causing it to open up on the downswing. This is very, very common. I will do a video on it to help provide some suggestions. Thanks!

@USGOLFTVshow

Great question. Short answer is it depends on the swing style and club. For most golfers they should feel like the clubhead continues to move to the right after the strike. The Vertical Line Swing which you can see here covers this kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqDFfGSEYrNsp7ssi=udJCJGaOzTTIw1Qg

Great tips! When you are swinging down toward the ball, are you “throwing” the club? At the ball or? I think I pull the club down with my arms. Not hitting the driver very far. I hit the ball high, more like a pop fly and it carries 230 240, but it’s not a penetrating shot that I see from long hitters. Love your show!

Todd, I wanted to confide in you with this little dilemma I had last Fall and get your opinion on this sticky situation. I know you wouldn't steer me wrong. I was playing for the Club Championship and after 17 holes my opponent and I were dead even. I had the honors off the 18th tee and I hit my drive about 250 yards right down the middle of the fairway. My opponent's drive went straight right into the woods. I helped him look for his ball for about 10 minutes and finally he says to me, "Why don't you go back and hit your second shot. I'll look for my ball for a couple of more minutes. If I don't find it, I'll go back and tee up again." I went out to the fairway and hit my second shot. It was a beauty and landed about 10 feet from the pin. Just as my ball hit the green, from out of the woods I heard "Found It". The ball came flying out of the woods and dropped a few inches from the pin for a gimme. Here's the dilemma: Do I take the cheating bastard's ball out of my pocket and confront him with it or do I just keep my mouth shut?

Thanks for the video. Two questions. Do I change my ball position ( like move it back a bit) compared to my normal driver setup and do I tee the ball higher than my normal driver setup?
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 2 жыл бұрын
Good question, if we are trying to hit a draw with the driver then yes the ball might be moved back slightly from "normal", however it is minimal. The height of the ball on a tee should not have too much impact on hitting the draw...hope that helps.

I’ve been trying to learn to hit a draw but I can’t figure out how to do it. Everyone, including your video, doesn’t show where the club face is positioned. Just watching your video, when I’ve tried what you said, my ball goes in the direction of the swing. Same thing happens when I try to do a fade. BTW, the way you show the takeaway and finish is what most instructional videos say to do to hit your driver straight. Can you clarify please?

Is it the lower ur right shoulder the more draw? Or is it the more ur aimed to the right the bigger the draw. I've been trying to get better at shaping, seen lots of videos. So I try to use the info and put everything together to get it. Every time I draw a driver it's a huge draw, more then what I want so I'm just trying to get it right so I hit it every time.

Love the tips but am a little confused on the last one concerning making sure the butt end of the club points outside the target line on the followthrough. I see you do this BUT as you finish your followthrough you reverse the direction (with a twirl) and the butt end finishes to the left. Why not just keep the butt end on the finish of the followthrough to the right by bowing the right wrist? Seems easier.
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 3 жыл бұрын
You are keen with your awesome. 👊 The club twirl is after the shot and an old habit. The key is to have the butt end outside the target line in the finish. Make sense?
@hansste734
@hansste734 3 жыл бұрын
@@USGOLFTVshow Yes, it makes sense and I notice that the vast majority of golfers do the same thing as you (for comfort, I guess) so it must be good. For me, it's just as comfortable to lay the clubhead to the left on the finish as to the right so that's what I do--besides, the ball is long gone way before you lay the club to the right or left on the finish so it doesn't really matter does it as long as the butt is facing right (clubhead leaning left) on the first few feet of the followthrough. Now, for what it's worth, you are now my favorite youtube golf instructor and even though you always say you don't mind if someone disagrees with you (I hate the "it's my way or the highway" instructors) I have found very little I disagree with you about. FWIW, I now consider you my favorite instructor because you are very easy to understand and you are super responsive to your followers. I hope that as you get more popular with hundreds if not thousands of comments that you will still maintain the same level of responsiveness, but if you don't it will be understandable. One more question please. Who would you say your instruction compares to? With a vertical, steep and upright type approach I'm thinking Don Trahan, Shawn Clements, Mike Malaska, Dave Seeman, Jimmy Ballard, Gary Edwins-right? Am I correct in this assessment?

Saw the picture of the hoop at the start. Looked like you would hit it off the toe. If you have a tendency to hit high toe driver shots, should you start off with the ball more towards the heel of the driver?
@USGOLFTVshow
@USGOLFTVshow 3 жыл бұрын
Brian, good question, you certainly could...I would add that shots with the driver are better off the high toe and low heal...toe shots go further and spin less for more distance, however they can also hook more than when hit off the heal...
